You Are the Only Exception

Last week on The Glee Project: Mark Salling and Ashley Fisk showed up to judge the final six Gleekabes on their sexuality. Samuel won and he was paired with Alex for “Teenage Dream.” Damian and Lindsay steamed up the shoot together. Cameron though was not thrilled with his sexy food fight scene with Hannah and refused to kiss her. Damian, Alex and Cameron ended up in the bottom three. Cameron though decided to walk away from the competition, saving Damian. Five Gleekabes remain, can you feel the tension skyrocket? Who goes home tonight? Find out!

Glee!

The Gleekabes walk into to see this week is about "Believability” and they have to sing “True Colors.” They are surprised to find out they are singing the whole song. Well, they have an hour to fill after all. Damian talks about Cameron leaving and how they were best buds. Alex says he has the drive to win the competition. Well, show us, Alex! Samuel says he feels very believable but he doesn’t know what they want to believe.

Time for this week’s guest judge. And it’s Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina). Samuel is excited and thinks she’s beautiful. Robert introduces her even though they know her. They talk about how Tina is different than Jenna. She says they have to be believable about who they are portraying. Damian is excited as Jenna sang the song on the show. Lindsay starts the song. Samuel tends to go straight to this intense place, doesn’t he? On Top Model, he’d be advised to go softer. Jenna thinks they were amazing. She loves Alex’s voice, called Damian “dreamy” and “heartfelt,” she noted Samuel’s “intensity” as good. She hasn’t seen it’s his default face, which Lindsay notes. Jenna calls Lindsay “wonderful” and Hannah was “incredible” and “joyous.”

The winner this week is…Hannah! Yay! She gets to work with Jenna this week. Hannah talks about how excited she is to work. Jenna reveals they will be singing “Only Exception” by Paramour. Rob says it’s about being in love with someone who doesn’t know you exist. Hannah says she understands as she has a crush on Damian but he only sees her as a friend. Aww. I think there’s a support group. Robert reveals there is no choreography.

After the homework assignment, the Gleekabes talk about their vision of the video. Hannah says that while she wouldn’t have a problem with a girl/girl relationship, if she were paired with Lindsay she would be longing for friendship. You know, Lindsay was the popular girl and Hannah wants to be her friend. Damian says he would want to try to get Hannah’s attention. He jokes that he’s invisible to her and she jokes back that he is. Inside, you know Hannah is doing a happy dance.

Vocals with Nikki! She thinks it’ll be challenging and tells Hannah to make her feel the pain. She succeeds. Nikki wants Damian to be smooth and tells Samuel to be more confident. We find out that Alex’s father is dead and it sets him off. Even Nikki is like, “Oh no, need to comfort!” She tells him not to be sorry. Nikki tells him this is something he can’t get completely over. Nikki praises his performance and needs a tissue box. He talks about it with the other Gleekabes. Lindsay is the last to sing. She starts to cry as well. And Nikki’s like “Not again.” Lindsay says she’s thinking about home but this is worth leaving everything behind. Nikki thinks Lindsay is forcing emotion and not letting it happen. As she leaves, she tells Nikki she is awesome. Nikki doesn’t think it’s genuine.

I don’t know if it’s the editing monkeys at work again—they must talk with Top Model’s—but Lindsay is reminding me of Sara from Top Model’s Cycle 6. The models get to watch each other’s shoots and if Sara saw someone doing something the judges liked, she would copy it. It was eventually her downfall because she was creative enough. That and Tyra’s people found her in a mall. Tyra never let her forget it. Anyway, back to Lindsay—she sees Alex has an emotional breakdown and does it again. I believe she may have been instructed to kiss Cameron and we didn’t see it, but this is just suspicious.

Video time! Samuel says this is weird because he’s being examined as an actor. Robert says that Hannah longs for Alex who longs for Damian who longs for Lindsay who longs for Samuel who longs for Hannah. Hannah says it’s difficult to concentrate with Damian sitting there. Hannah says that Jenna told her to perform as if it was her last time. Jenna tells her not to be afraid, to let the emotions out. Alex talks about thinking about his father. Erik though thinks it’s depression and not love. Erik tells him that’s about pining for Damian. Alex takes the notes. Zach got chills. So far, Alex, you are proving you are a competitor.

Damian worries about close ups and his eye brows. We see Zach mocking it. Robert tells Damian to watch it. Zach thinks Lindsay is nice but it isn’t making him feel something. Erik tells her to twinkle. I love her hair for this shoot though. Samuel talks about being excited about the shoot while Erik wonders how he will handle not going to the intense place. Erik tells him to be vulnerable and uncertain. Time for the video!

I don’t think Damian’s eyebrows are a distraction. Some people have really expressive eyebrows—he is one. I still think Samuel looks angry. I think Hannah was great in the video.

Up Next: Final three

In the boys dorm, Damian is very nervous about today. He’s prepared to be in the bottom 3. Samuel says he’s very scared. Alex says only time will tell. Ohh, Nikki’s with Robert this week. Time to reveal the bottom 3. Robert thought Hannah was beautiful in the homework assignment but not in the video.

She says she was very confused and did her best. Nikki praises Damian and asks if he’s every acted before. He says not that intensely and I’d agree except none of my PBS channels are showing “Storm”! Robert tells Lindsay that she didn’t make Zach, her big fan, feel anything. Nikki tells her that she felt that Lindsay wasn’t genuine and was copying other people. Lindsay has this “Wow, way to be a bitch” look. Nikki tells Samuel that he didn’t connect on the shoot. Robert talks about the disconnect between Alex’s feeling and the song until he took the note. Alex is safe. Lindsay and Hannah will be performing for Ryan. It’s down to Samuel and Damian. Damian says he has it in him to do another last chance performance though he doesn’t want to. Damian is safe—Samuel is in the bottom three.

Lindsay will be singing “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret.” She doesn’t know the song. Seriously? She comes from a musical theater background and doesn’t know this Liza Minnelli standard? Samuel has “Animal” from Neon Trees. Hannah has “Back to December” by Taylor Swift. Samuel and Hannah are stoked about their songs. Each goes to practice their song. Hannah says she feels like the outcast. Lindsay practices as Samuel worries that Ryan won’t like him. He says he has to show them what they want to see. I don’t think Ryan knows what he wants to see.

Coming Up: Ryan is Ryan.

In our Gleekabe extra: Damian gets his nose hairs trimmed and Hannah gets to help.

Last chance performances! Hannah is first. Robert says she struggled but knew it, which impressed him. Ryan says he loves Hannah but she is up against two better singers. Ryan says she is the show and has heart. Ryan tells her to be more confident with herself and Hannah says she was bullying. She says she is getting better. He tells her to see what they see. She says she’s catching glimpses.

Next is Lindsay, who Robert calls the best voice but she wasn’t as empathetic. Ryan says that she’s like the next Lea Michele. Ryan says he roots for Lea but not for Lindsay. Ryan asks if she’s an underdog. Lindsay says that she’s been taught to be strong and says she can’t be vulnerable. Zach whispers “Overcompensation.” Lindsay says she has to be perfect and she hates it. She says she had to be to prove she belonged in her adoptive family. Ryan says she’s now showing vulnerable. He tells her they need a heroine.

Last is Samuel. Robert notes that he is intense. Ryan notes this is Samuel’s first time in the bottom 3. He then speaks in a British accent and has a rocker attitude. Ryan says he doesn’t know how to write for Samuel. He calls him too smooth. He asks for vulnerability, not Russell Brand. He then asks about Samuel’s comment about not wanting to play gay. He talks about being his parents being Christian and afraid of it. He though told her about the difference between real life and acting. Can he give Cameron the same talk? Ryan talks about having a Christian character and Samuel says he can be that.

The judges deliberate as everyone waits to hear the final decision. Lindsay says she’s preparing herself to go home. Hannah is crying hysterically.

Robert posts the Call Back list. You’d think he’d change his speech—it’s “very, very hard” every week. Everyone hugs Alex and Damian. Samuel says he wants to win the competition more than he wants to breath. Lindsay says it’s been surreal and wants to make it to the end. Hannah says she worked really hard for this. Lindsay looks devastated while Samuel looks relieved. Of course, dude, you’re a guy. In the end though, it’s Hannah who isn’t called back.

Hannah says this was the best experience ever. She says it feels her dream of being on Glee is over but that only good will come of it. Everyone hugs her.

She then sings “Keep Holding On.” I wish she had left her hair straightened. It looked so pretty.

*Contestant walked away

It’s been over 24 hours since the elimination. I’m still slightly upset that Hannah left the competition. She had a great personality and supplied my quotes of the episode! Still rooting for Damian to win, though I hope it doesn’t take him away from Celtic Thunder.

A thing I noted: we don’t see much of Ryan, Zach and Robert’s deliberations. I guess the show decided to focus more on the Gleekabes as they wait to hear the final verdict, but I think we need to hear the deliberations. I think it might help us understand why they send home who they send home. I loved Hannah in the video. She was definitely memorable, as were Alex and Damian. I think Lindsay and Samuel were the weak points. And Nikki didn’t care for Lindsay. So, all Samuel needs to do is tone down the intensity.

What do you think?

Next time: Generosity! Lean on Me! Phone calls from Ryan!

Good recap, and I agree that Damian's eyebrows weren't very distracting. In fact, I thought that it added a nice touch. I'm also glad that you thought it was weird that Lindsay didn't know "Maybe This Time", since it is a very famous song. Also, she claims to be a big gleek, and Kristin+Lea sang the song on glee.

What do you think the surprise from Ryan will be in the next episode? I'm extremely curious; Sunday can't come soon enough!

Thank you. Yes, I find that Damian is one of those people with really expressive eyebrows.

I still find it weird that Lindsay didn't know the song. It seems like an audition standard to me.

I personally think the surprise is two-fold. I think the first is that everyone is going to have to do a last chance performance because the second surprise is that two people will be eliminated.
