Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist: Last Friday Night

Last time: Mo took Zoey to visit a psychic and her powers went on the fritz. She realized all the heartsongs were mixed up and she had to figure which song belonged to which person in her life. Especially a song Max sang that was calling out for help. In the process, Zoey learned that Rose is a recovering alcoholic, Perry is a devoted dad to his son, Mo is struggling with not being the focus of Perry’s attention, her team is highly competitive and her mother struggled with being around her couple friends again. And she learned that Simon loves her but is a bit insecure about their relationship, especially after she had to blow off a meeting with his woodworking club to solve the mystery of the mixed up songs. In the end, she reassured Simon but chose not to reveal the truth of her powers and discovered the call for help came from Emily.

Sorry for the delay in my posts! May ended up being a crazier month than I thought! I was asked to cover shifts at one of our branches and that affected the amount of time I had to write. And then I went on vacation which was immediately followed by a funeral for a family member. Honestly, Memorial Day weekend feels like the first real break I’ve gotten all month.

June, though, is looking a lot less hectic. So I think I can finish up the season before July! And hopefully, we’ll know the fate of Zoey by then.

After all my strength is gone/In you I can be SPOILERS!

Reopening Broadway (Now Slightly Earlier Than Expected!)

It seems the announcements of reopenings has slowed down as many musicals have set their return dates. I'll keep an eye out for any more announcements in the future but I think we're going to have the schedule set by the time summer officially begins at the end of June.

But recently one Tony-award winning musical announced that it would return almost two weeks earlier than the others! So check below to see when the earliest date Broadway will return is and which musical that is! (Hint: It'll be the one in bold).

Keep going to the bottom for news on the Tony Awards as well!

The Knight Before Christmas: I Need a Hero

Who’s eager for summer to begin? The days are getting longer and Memorial Day is upon us. It’s time for barbecues, fireworks, shorts and for me to switch from vodka to tequila.

(I don’t know why but I associate vodka with winter and tequila with summer. Go figure).

But we’re going to put on our favorite Christmas sweater, pour some hot chocolate and munch on a candy cane – at least in our minds – as we look at this month’s Christmas movie review, The Knight Before Christmas.

Through the years, we all will be together/if the fates SPOILERS!

Everything is starting to shape up! There's still several more musicals to announce - for example, past Best Musical Winners Dear Evan Hansen and Hadestown - as well as several plays, like Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. But I'm sure we'll keep getting more announcements as we head toward June and the summer.

And hopefully we'll get a date for the Tony Awards as well! The American Theatre Wing said that they would have it as soon as theaters could reopen and I think it would be a great way to kick off the 2021-2022 Broadway season to finally honor the 2019-2020 season.

I'll be back soon with more updates!

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist: All Shook Up

Last time: It was Zoey’s birthday! Maggie threw a party for Zoey and everyone came –except Leif, who was at some sort of contest. Zoey and Max decided to turn their pause into a breakup so he could figure out what he felt for Rose and Zoey could figure out what she felt for Simon. Mo and the fire marshal got closer, though it was a shock when he mentioned he had kids with his ex-husband. David helped Aiden write a song and was then horrified to realize it was a song about how much Aiden wanted Zoey, who turned him down gently. During a heartsong, Zoey learned that McKenzie and Tobin had feelings for each other. Tatiana revealed that while she was into Simon, he was into someone else – with strong implications that “someone else” was Zoey. And on her birthday, Simon and Zoey shared a kiss.

A lot certainly happened. I’m still not sure the romances we saw last episode will be endgame (except for Emily and David) though I’ll be interesting to see those journeys.

Well, there’s nothing else to discuss just yet so let’s dive into the episode!

Anyone, please send me anyone/Lord, is there SPOILERS!

Broadway's Five Minute Call

With more Americans getting vaccinated and COVID positivity rates dropping, the thing we dreamed of all of last year is finally becoming a reality - the end of the pandemic is in sight and plans to return to what we consider "normal" are starting to get timelines.

Including one for Broadway.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that Broadway theaters can reopen at full capacity on September 14th - as long as they can guarantee social distancing and their plans are approved. So it's very unlikely all of Broadway will reopen in September. In fact, at least one show has already announced it will reopen in October - The Phantom of the Opera

I anticipate that shows will continue to announce their re-openings over the coming weeks and I'll try to keep a running timeline of when the shows will return.
