Don’t Stop Believing!

This past season on The Glee Project: Thousands of hopefuls auditioned, but twelve finalists made it to the show. They had to survive homework challenges, guest judges, choreography with Zach, vocals with Nikki, videos with Erik and performances for Ryan Murphy. They survived Lindsay’s ability to talk, Alex’s diva tendencies, Damian’s accent, Cameron quitting and Samuel stealing Hannah’s thing. Eight Gleekabes were eliminated and Ryan began to look more and more like a douche in viewers’ eyes. Last week, no one got eliminated. So who wins tonight? Find out!

Glee!

The 4 final Gleekabes enter the classroom to find this week’s theme is “Glee-ality” while they get to sing “Don’t Stop Believing.” Lindsay is excited that they finally get to sing it while Samuel talks about wanting to win. Alex says he thinks himself a great character. Look, Alex, they already have your character. His name is Kurt. And he’s already had Emmy nominations. Damian wants it as well. Lindsay wonders who their guest judge will be.

And it’s Ryan Murphy. Hopefully he gets to show he isn’t complete douche. Robert blathers on about this being the finale and how they chose “Don’t Stop Believing.” Ryan likes that they are all in red, like the Glee kids were originally in for the pilot. Ryan stops them singing and asks if they worked on choreography. They say not really so Ryan says he brought them some help. That means the other eight contenders. Cameron says he was hesitant to return as if he wasn’t in some safe house with the others some where else. But Damian is excited to see him and Hannah. Meanwhile, Ellis’ confessional is how of course they are jealous of the final four. Nice,  editors. /sarcasm.

They start the song again. Cameron and McKynleigh even pick up instruments to start jamming out with them. Emily and Marissa really got into it in the background. After hugs around, Ryan calls the final four together. Robert announces there is no homework winner. He says all 12 all going to the top of skyscraper to perform “Raise Your Glass” (P!nk). The four are doing last chance performances and get to chose their own song.

Zach and Brooke greet everyone and Ellis runs straight into Zach’s arms. I would too. Zach says he saw the helipad and wonders if that’s the challenge. They wonder if someone will pull them off. Hannah says she’s having fun with the choreography while Zach asks if anyone thought it would be these four. Samuel wonders if that’s what the other eight are thinking. Zach gets hugs and wishes them well.

Time to work with Nikki, who greets the full twelve. Nikki is apparently married to the executive music producer, Adam. Lindsay is in the studio first. Lindsay enters too soon and Nikki points out that she was too high. Adam doesn’t think she’s versatile but sounds good. Damian has a great time in the studio. Samuel struggles in the booth. Nikki worries if he is holding back. He goes back to say that he had trouble with one part and warns Alex, who says that maybe it was just Samuel. Nikki likes Alex while Adam praises him as well. Samuel worries that he blew it as the eliminated Gleekabes go to record some backup vocals.

They go to meet Erik to film their video. Everyone goes out to enjoy the view. Zach warns them not to jump off. Lindsay says she feels like one of the Beatles. Nikki worries that Samuel has been stuck in his head. Robert praises Damian’s growth while Zach notes that he’s relatable. They worry about that for Lindsay. Zach points out Alex’s tendency to check out during rehearsals.

VIDEO! Did anyone else’s eyes keep going to Marissa during that whole video? I loved her and wish Ryan would declare her a winner. At the end, everyone hugs it out and we see Damian walking with Hannah, arm around her.

Coming Up: Last chance performances.

The final four Gleekabes remain on stage as all the judges come in. Robert says it is down to them as Zach points out that one of them will one. Unless my wish comes true. Lindsay sings “Gimme, Gimme” from “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” She chose it for the vulnerability and Nikki tells her to have heart. Damian chooses “Beyond the Sea” to show he is a leading male. Nikki tells him to outshine them. Samuel chooses “Jolene” by Dolly Parton and wants to perform it in his own world. Zach tells him to let him in. Alex decides on “And I am Changing” from “Dreamgirls.” Robert tells him to show them more than a diva. Robert says that Ian Brennan will be there as well as the eliminated Gleekabes and some people from Glee—the guest judges, I guess.

Samuel declares his guitar sexy as Lindsay practices her song. Alex is practicing and unless you weren’t watching the promos, you didn’t know he decided to do it in drag. Samuel continues talking about fighting to win while Damian wants to get everything right.

Coming Up: Last chance performs.

Boys Dorm extra! Cameron talks about not having many friends back home but feels blessed to have everyone as a friend. He tells the four to make magic happen. Damian hugs him.

And the fan favorite is Cameron. Because all his fans cheated. Really—it’s documented on Television Without Pity.

A crowd fills the theater. Lindsay gets a round of applause as she takes the stage. I am pleased with her song choice. I’m not a fan of “Millie” but I love this song. This and “Forget about the Boy.” Ian was impressed.

We see Damian cross himself before he takes the stage. He gets a standing O. He dedicates his song to Hannah and Cameron. Ashley Fink (Lauren) is more touched than Hannah. He throws in some moves and Nikki is impressed as is Erik. He does a few more dance moves that makes me wonder if he put in a last minute call to Belinda, Celtic Thunder’s choreography. Damian gets another standing O. Ian calls him an adult while Robert says he’s an old soul. But Ryan likes his youth.

Samuel comes out to sing. Let’s see if he gets intense eyes. I tuned out his performance. He didn’t grab me. Ryan says he loves that song as Zach says he’s incredible.

Alex comes out in drag and Ian loses it. I have mentioned before that I think Alex is a very pretty girl, right? Jenna seems to like Alex’s performance. I think Alex could definitely have a career on Broadway as long as he doesn’t piss off any choreographer by being lazy. Otherwise, look out Tonys! He needs to catch his breath at the end and also gets a standing O. Ryan then asks his audience. Dot loved Alex while Darren thinks Lindsay would be a good foil to Rachel. Max thinks Alex fit Glee. Erik says that Lindsay was the best actor and she could take notes.

Zach says that Damian can be groomed into a leadership role. Samuel would be unique on TV while Lindsay was a powerhouse. Alex is great but better in drag. Ian thinks he’s brave for doing that. Ian says he knows who would fit “Glee" and they made their decision.

The four final Gleekabes take the stage once again. Ryan says that they’ve been talking and arguing about them in the writer’s room. Lindsay: Ryan’s been hard to find out who Lindsay is and she showed him tonight. He calls her “pure light.” Damian: He says Damian was the whipping boy. But he loved how Damian did everything with a smile on his face and improved. Sam: Ryan likes the duality Sam has—wholesome yet could be dark. Alex: Ryan feels he was the most moving. He says Alex embodied Glee. But Alex didn’t win. Bryce looks shocked. Lindsay didn’t win either. It’s between Damian and Samuel. Damian was the crowd favorite even at Glee. But Samuel has the “It” factor.

And the winner is…Samuel. Lindsay gives him a hug as does Damian. Damian says that he is delighted for Samuel and he deserves it. And then Ryan tells Damian he won as well. Damian goes NUTS! Both will be on Glee. Ryan then turns to Alex and Lindsay. They apparently get something as well. They will get two-episode arcs for them on Glee. Lindsay wonders if they all just won in a way. Confetti blasts as the Gleekabes rush to hug the winners. Their version of “Raise Your Glass” plays. Samuel thanks all his supporters while Damian says he shows the underdog can win.

And that’s it!

Runners up who won 2 episode arcs

So, the season ends. As predicted, I didn’t get to watch it last night. My sister got a text with the results but I told her not to tell me. When we got home, we began watching it. I must admit, I was surprised by the ending. I have to agree with the Television Without Pity article about how to fix season two of this show—pick one damn winner. If you’re just going to hire them all, what’s the point of a competition?

(PS: Regarding next season, Ian and Ryan tied as main judges. Maybe the can alternate!)

Regarding the winners, it’ll be interesting to see what story arcs they are given. I know they are grooming Damian to take over for Corey Monteith and I am looking forward to seeing how Brittany reacts to his accent. Samuel will be interesting though I hope he’s learned that acting =/= intense staring. If Ryan was correct about the winner being a rival for Sue, I can see that character being Samuel.

As for the runners up, I see Alex as being a new Warbler. Maybe competition for Blaine or a new friend for Mercedes. I am not certain what role Lindsay could fill for only two episodes. Everyone sees her as a Rachel rival, but I think it would only work for the longer arc not the shorter one. We’ll see.

Now, a note on Celtic Thunder. Since Damian won The Glee Project, he has resigned from the group. While I am excited that he is moving on to bigger and better things, I am sad to see him leave. I wish him nothing but the best. Sharon Browne has announced that Ryan Kelly will be rejoining the group to fill the slot. She talks about wanting to mother hen Ryan and I completely understand. I feel the same way and I only know the man through his music! But to the fans: I know this has been a lot of change in a relatively short period of time. But let’s give everyone our support, okay?

So, that concludes this season. See everyone on Saturday for the return of “Doctor Who” and in two weeks for the all-stars cycle of Top Model!
