Mr. Weasley’s Adventures in Space

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship or “Dinosaurs on a Ship”

Why mess with a perfect title? Mr. Weasley learns there’s a bigger world outside the wizarding one as he journeys with the Doctor, the Ponds, Nefertiti and some hunter to a spaceship. With dinosaurs. And sarcastic robots.

The Doctor talks to an Egyptian queen before we see him talking to some military girl. There’s a big ship coming. But they can’t communicate with it and the military will shoot it if it comes too close to Earth. The Doctor has six hours nineteen minutes to stop it. He takes the queen—Nefertiti—to the African plains over a century ago. He talks to a man who he takes with him. Meanwhile, Mr. Weasley tries to fix the light bulb as the TARDIS appears in their living room. They end up on the bridge. Mr. Weasley is confused as the Doctor instructs everyone to grab a torch.

The Doctor sees a spider web before spotting Mr. Weasley. Who is Rory’s dad. Doctor wants to know why Rory brought him and Rory’s like “You materialized around us.” The Doctor greets Mr. Weasley and Amy’s like “Explain.” She follows the Doctor. Rory tells his dad the traveling he and Amy after their wedding was through time and space in the TARDIS.

Meanwhile, Amy wonders if Nefertiti and Explorer are the new companions. Nope, just people the Doctor is bringing along because he wants a gang. A door opens and the Doctor tells them to run. And we get what we’ve all been waiting for—dinosaurs on a spaceship!

CREDITS!

Everyone keeps running as Nefertiti finds a place to hide. Explorer thinks he can take the dinosaurs but the Doctor wants to preserve them. The dinos walk by as everyone watches amazed. Rory’s like “How and Whose ship?” Mr. Weasley wonders if the dinosaurs are steering the ship. The Doctor says they are just passengers and they have six hours to figure everything out. The Doctor finds a computer to find the engines. The computer then zaps the Doctor, Rory and Mr. Weasley to a beach. He says it must have been a teleport. Mr. Weasley freaks out as Rory asks why the Doctor can’t phone ahead. The Doctor doesn’t think they are on earth as Rory notes the beach is humming. The Doctor orders the Williams men to dig. Mr. Weasley has a trowel and tells Rory to put it on his Christmas list. Rory’s like “I’m too old for a Christmas list.” The Doctor’s like “I have one.”

Mr. Weasley strikes a floor as we see an old man talking about the Doctor. He orders someone to bring him to the old man.

Nefertiti and the Explorer continue to explore with Amy. He doesn’t take well to being ordered about by women and Nefertiti tell his to learn. Amy is thrilled to learn who she is as growling erupts from the floor. They stumble upon a baby T-Rex who is sleeping. The explorer nearly wakes it but they escape. He is John Riedel, a big game hunter. Amy has never heard of him. Nefertiti asks if Amy is a queen and she says she is.

The Doctor found another computer. Turns out it’s the engine room. Mr. Weasley is confused. The Doctor says it’s fascinating but they need to prevent it from being blown up. But first, they have to survive the pterodactyls. Is one from Torchwood? Because I would love to know it survived being blown up. The men run to a cave as they fight off the pterodactyls. Everyone makes it in one piece. They try to figure out their next move. Something approaches. They’re robots! Who are very cross with them. What?

In group two, they wonder what happened to the people. Nefertiti suspects plague or animals. Amy manages to go into the computers and try to find some answers. Riedel hears something. Amy gets sound but not a picture. She hits a computer and finds a Silurian talking about the lose of his planet. Amy is confused.

The robots want to put the men on the naughty step. Mr. Weasley wants to know if they are going to escape as Rory says they may learn something wherever they are going. The Doctor is impressed. The robots have a cheeky sense of humor as a triceratops approaches. It seems friendly, especially to Mr. Weasley. It smells the grass on his golf balls. The Doctor instructs him to throw them and the triceratops goes off to them. He tells the robots to take them to their leader.

The Silurian reveals they are on an ark. Fifty species were brought on board but only 49 are thriving. Riedel doesn’t believe it and Nefertiti calls him a fool. She tells Riedel to listen to Amy. He wonders where the Silurians and she scans for them. There are nothing. She asks the computer for life scans at launch and life scans now. Amy finds signs of another space craft.

Elsewhere, the Doctor goes to meet the old man. But just him as the gate separates him from the Williams men. The robot says he is not interested in them and Rory says they need to learn manners. They argue as Doctor notes the music playing. He says he is hands three and four as he goes around the tubes. The Doctor introduces himself and the man says he is Solomon. He was attached by three raptors and was rescued by the robots. They tried to help him but hopes the Doctor can help more. The Doctor takes a peek. Solomon hopes he can fix him but Doctor wants to know where he got the dinosaurs. So Solomon has the robots hurt Mr. Weasley. He orders the Doctor to fix him or he will kill Mr. Weasley.

Rory threatens the robots who continue to snark at him. He pulls out a medipack to tend to his father’s wounds, including administering a painkiller. Rory says his dad gets to see his nursing skills up close. Amy calls and wonders where he is. She tells him what she knows.

Inside, the Doctor tends to Solomon. He wants to know how the Doctor came aboard but the Doctor turns it on him. He learns Solomon is a trader. He notes that the computer scanned him to determine his worth. The Doctor doesn’t have an identification. He notes the creatures onboard are very valuable before having the man sit up. Rory passes off his phone and she tells him her findings. He tells her he’ll see her soon as the Doctor tells Rory to be ready. Solomon thanks the Doctor before he asks what happened to the Silurians. The robots ejected them. Solomon had the Silurians take him aboard thinking they were help. The Doctor wonders why they are heading to earth before realizing he can’t steer the ship so it’s returning home. Solomon thinks the Doctor will help and he reveals missiles are targeted on him. But Solomon thinks the Doctor wants to steal from him.

The Doctor leaves, taking the men with him. He jumps on the triceratops and the Williams men follow. The robots give chase as the triceratops just stands there. Mr. Weasley throws a golf ball and the triceratops chases it. The robots continue to shoot at them before losing them. Triceratops continues to follow the ball as they approach a dead end. He stops short before dropping the ball off to Mr. Weasley. A computer says intruders have been detected. A message from Earth shows the military girl saying she has to shoot them down. The Doctor pleads for her to stop but she says she will start the procedures. They have thirty minutes.

Riedel finds guns. He arms them but Amy is against it until she realizes they are stun guns. Nefertiti asks if Amy is the Doctor’s queen. She says she is Rory’s then corrects she is his wife. Nefertiti asks if the Doctor has a queen. Amy asks if she has a husband but Nefertiti says she has a sleeping potion. Riedel says she needs a man of action and flirts with her.

Elsewhere, Rory wonders if the ship has defense systems. But the Doctor doesn’t know how to access them. Solomon acknowledges the Doctor was right. He says he can get off but not with the dinosaurs. Solomon wants Nefertiti. The Doctor refuses and Solomon threatens him. Dude, never threaten the Doctor. But the robots kill the triceratops and the Doctor looks like they just shot his dog. Riedel takes his hat off in mourning.

Good job, Solomon. You just pissed off the wrong person. Solomon wants Nefertiti but the Doctor refuses. Group Two teleports down. Nefertiti agrees to the exchange. She says it’s her choice as Riedel aims. But he drops it as Solomon enjoys the money he’ll get. He says he enjoys breaking his possessions’ spirits. The computer teleports them to his ship as the computer reveals the missiles are coming.

They teleport somewhere else. He tells Rory they need to turn the ship around. Rory thinks it’s too late but the Doctor says he has a plan. He tells Riedel to watch the dinosaurs and instructs the Williams men to clean. Solomon tries to navigate his ship away. Riedel watches as raptors? T-Rexes? approach. Down on earth, the military watches as the missiles continue.

Mr. Weasley thinks he and Rory can turn the ship around. The Doctor tells them to steer away from the earth and avoid the moon—don’t want to anger the races living there. The Doctor asks for Amy’s help and wonders how her job is going. She says she gave it up as she’s waiting for the TARDIS sound. She wonders if he’s weaning them off but he says she and Rory have lives to live. He promises. Riedel asks for back up and Amy goes to help. Rory and Mr. Weasley prepare to steer the ship as the Doctor disappears. Riedel wants a dinosaur tooth to take home. They continue to stun the dinos as the Williams men continue to steer the ship. On earth, they note the ship is changing directions but the military girl says it doesn’t matter. There is seven minutes to impact.

The Doctor appears on Solomon’s ship. He disables the robots. Solomon tells him to release the ship or he kills Nefertiti. She turns on him as the Doctor goes to disable his signal to replace it with the Silurian signal. Solomon offers him something but the Doctor doesn’t accept. He leaves Solomon to the missiles. Really, dude, you shouldn’t have killed the Doctor’s dog. He doesn’t like it.

Back on the ship, the dinos are stunned. Amy and Rory ask to go home for a couple of months. Mr. Weasley asks for a favor. He wants to see the earth. And does so while eating his lunch. Amy and Rory watch as well as the Doctor. Who looks pensive. Riedel goes back with Nefertiti and a dinosaur tooth. And Rory tries to replace the light bulb as the they get postcards from Mr. Weasley.

Well, I think that delivered the promise it made. Dinosaurs on a spaceship is a pretty big order, after all. I liked Nefertiti and Riedel though I don’t see their purpose except for Solomon to want Nefertiti. But I loved Mark Williams in this as Rory’s dad. ‘Bout time we saw more of their relatives. Especially after the Davies era. Doesn’t Amy now have parents? What are they up to? Anyway, good show! I just ask that they not talk so fast. PLEASE!

Coming up: Western! Cyborgs! Big boom!

Quote of the Episode

“I’m flying a spaceship. Rory, we’re flying a spaceship!”—Mr. Weasley to Rory.
