ANTM: Girl on Fire

Last time on ANTM: Tyler Perry showed up to help with an acting challenge. Despite the fact I still think Yvonne or even Victoria should’ve won, Kiara won. But she wasn’t the biggest bitch on the show this week. That went to Kristin, who needled Destiny and talked back to Johnny. The girls portrayed zombies. Lauren rose to the top while Destiny and Yvonne fell to the bottom. In the end, Destiny was sent to join Jessie and Darian in an attempt to get back in the competition. Nine girls remain, who gets eliminated tonight? Find out!

Wanna be on top?

LA! The girls go home to see Laura’s zombie picture. They praise her as she goes to check out the Tyra Suite. She says she was nervous because she didn’t look like a traditional model. She talks about it as the girls cook. Leila talks about being the awkward girl and how she envies Laura but calls her a friend. She thinks Lauren is going to pick her for the Tyra Suite like she did when she won. But Laura is going to pick Kristin and they talk about how obsessed Leila is with Laura. So she tells everyone at the dinner table. Laura says she thinks everyone should have a chance and Leila’s like “I get it. We’re not really friends.”

CREDITS!

LA! The girls are asleep as Tyra and Alicia Keys sneak into the house. The girls wake up and freak out. Kiara starts to cry as does Laura. Brittany is tearing up as well. And we learn Kiara sings and she actually can. Everyone applauds her impromptu performance before watching Alicia strut their runway. Tyra talks about Alicia’s charity organization, Keep a Child Alive, which the girls will do a charity fashion show.

But first they will have a themed runway walk based on Alicia’s songs. First up is “Superwoman.” Leila talks about backing off her friendship with Laura as Laura walks. Kristin doesn’t think Leila is a good model. Tyra talks about using her arms in her walk. Next theme is “My Boo.” Brittany says her beau is “Leonardo diCaprio.” She impresses on the runway. Allyssa walks to “Empire State of Mind” as does Nastasia. Alicia talks about her charity organization, which provides medicine to children with AIDS. Tyra says they will be doing everything for the fashion show and puts Laura in charge. Laura is nervous. They will be modeling clothes by Mara Hoffman and their outfits will be bid on. The girl with the highest bid will win the challenge and she and a friend will go see Alicia’s concert for her new album, “Girl on Fire.” Which is their theme!

In the model mobile, the girls talk about the show. Brittany says there are too many cooks in the kitchen (though not with those words). Johnny and Kelly meet them. Kelly asks Laura what they decided and Kelly must be thinking Laura is a worse team leader than Annaliese from last cycle.

COMMERCIALS!

LA! The girls hit wardrobe and accessories. Shoes are from Nine West. Brittany says they needed Johnny’s help. The girls go to meet Mara Hoffman, who tells them to show strength and beauty. Laura talks about makeup and hair. Kelly tells her she can’t be a best friend to people and needs to be a leader. She then tells the girls not to be an embarrassment.

Tyra and Alicia welcome the crowd to the fashion show. There are programs for people to be able to bid on the outfits. Kristin opens the show. Kelly calls her a real model on the runway. Victoria goes next followed by Allyssa. Brittany goes followed by Leila. Tyra tells Leila to move her arms. She worries about looking unnatural with the arm swinging but it looks more natural then her earlier walk. A couple other girls walk before Laura goes off. They do their final turn as people start to bid. Kelly praises them.

Tyra tells the girls they raised some money for Keep a Child Alive. Victoria, Laura and Kiara step out. And the winner is…

COMMERCIALS. I was thinking about it—how does this count as a challenge? It doesn’t matter how they modeled the outfit, if the people prefer one over the other, it’s not fair. The worst model could still win just because she was wearing the best outfit!

Anyway, the winner is…Kiara. Again? Alicia praises her. Kiara chooses Nastasia before getting dismissed. I wonder if any of the other girls came to the same realization I did. Back at the house, Allyssa learns she scored the lowest while Leila says she has to do well at photographs.

In the Tyra Suite, Laura and Kristin trash talk Leila. And we get the “I’m not here to make friends” speech. Downstairs, Leila and Kiara talk about Laura and Kristin. Leila and Laura talk about the girls talking about Leila’s obsession. She says she thinks Laura might be obsessed with herself. Leila says she was tired of hearing people say she was obsessed with Laura and Laura cries that in high school everyone thought she was a stuck up bitch so they made fun of her. She asks Leila how they could be friends if she thinks that and didn’t talk to her.

Okay, time out. Laura has made it quite clear in her confessionals that she doesn’t feel the same amount of friendship for Leila as the other girl does. And I will admit if I was Leila, not getting picked for the Tyra Suite and getting told over dinner by a “by-the-way” remark, I’d re-evaluate the friendship and probably come to the conclusion that, no, we aren’t friends. She needs to decide what she and Leila are—friends? Or competitors who are friendly? There’s a difference. Leila also talks about how hard it is to be talked about. She decides just to focus on the competition.

The next day, the girls go to West LA College. Johnny and Jonte greet them. Sarah Silver is their photographer. Today, they are being cheerleaders with a Top Model spin. Laura says she’s scared of heights and isn’t a cheerleader. The girls hit wardrobe. Allyssa does a cheer while Kristin says she was a cheerleader. Rob shows up on set to “watch.” Johnny calls him a distraction.

Kiara goes first and thanks the cheerleaders at her school for inspiration. Johnny tells her she isn’t smizing but squinting. Yvonne goes next and flashes the crew. Allyssa struggles a bit and is nervous about her scores. She injures one of the cheerleaders tossing them. Laura is still scared.

COMMERCIALS!

Johnny gives Laura a pep talk. She cries in her confessional about how high it was. Johnny tells her to trust the cheerleaders and Rob says her fear is coming across on camera. Sarah likes some of her poses. Laura says she pushed through her fear. Kristin does well on her shoot while Leila struggles. She keeps doing “duck lips.” Victoria gets some tips from Jonte and nails it. Nastasia does well as well. Johnny really likes her. Brittany goes last and says it was the most difficult shoot yet. She struggles and loses her neck.
That’s a wrap! Bryanboy shows up in a skirt. Leila is still making the duck face though now it’s because she’s annoyed.

Laura, Nastasia and Yvonne talk about how Leila should go home. Well, Laura and Nastasia do. Yvonne just sits there.

COMMERCIALS!

Tyra welcomes the girls to panel. There are judges—Kelly Cutrone, Rob Evans and Bryanboy. There is the scoring explanation. There are prizes. Let’s get this judging started! Victoria goes first and Tyra compliments her hair. Kelly doesn’t like the posture. Rob does like it and praises her versatility. Bryanboy turns to social media where someone says she should’ve looked at the camera. Kelly gives her a 6 while Tyra and Rob give her 8’s. Next is Leila. Rob likes her body but not her face. Kelly says she looks better in person than in picture. Tyra tells her how to work tension. Kelly gives her a 4, Rob a 7 and Tyra gives her a 6. Kiara is next and is the challenge winner. Kelly doesn’t like the face but Tyra loves it. Rob notes she’s not flying. Bryanboy quotes someone who likes her body but hates her face. Kelly gives her a 7 while Tyra and Rob give her 8’s.

Kristin is next. Rob loves the picture. Kelly likes it as well. Kristin says her heart is melting. Tyra says she sees a cheerleader not a model. Bryanboy says people love her. Kelly gives a 9, Rob a 10 and Tyra a 6. Kelly isn’t impressed by Brittany but Rob is. The two battle over her and Tyra asks Brittany how she feels. Tyra tells her to be the fierce Disney and demonstrates other faces. The fans are disappointed online. She gets 6’s all around. Nastasia follows. Rob thinks she is the cheerleader who has spotted her boyfriend in the crowd with another girl. Kelly and Tyra like it as well. A fan notes she tends to play it too sexy. Kelly gives her a 9, Rob a 10 and Tyra an 8 (for no neck).

Rob thinks Yvonne has control of her body. Kelly praises the picture as well. Kelly gives her a 7 while Rob and Tyra give her 9’s. Allyssa is next. Tyra sees a cheerleader and a model. Rob notes she lost her height in the picture. Bryanboy calls her “average” online. Kelly and Rob give her 6’s while Tyra gives her an 8. Rob compares Laura to a Barbie. Kelly likes it and Tyra thinks it is weird, odd and fierce. Online, a fan wanted more from her. Laura talks about her fear of heights. She was afraid of hitting her head and starts crying. Tyra praises her for turning her fear into a strength. She and Kelly give Laura 9’s while Rob gives her a 6. Tyra dismisses the girls.

COMMERCIALS!

ELIMINATION! The first girl, best photo, is…Nastasia. She is joined by Laura, Kristin, Kiara, Victoria, Yvonne, and Allyssa. That leaves Leila and Brittany in the bottom two. They step before Tyra. Brittany: Had a brand but who is she? Leila: Strong, edgy face. Can work her body but the photo was bad. Her challenge score was bad as well. So who stays? The girls hug as they watch the screen. Brittany is saved by half a point. She hugs Leila. Tyra tells her her passion should be who she is.

Tyra hugs Leila and tells her she is shocked as well. Bryanboy admits she was his favorite and cries. She says she knew her shoot was bad. Tyra tells her she has to do well in the other shoots to get back in. Leila says she felt so good and feels she disappointed everyone to get eliminated. She hopes the fans stay behind her in order to come back.

I must echo Tyra’s statement: I am shocked. Leila was always a front runner for me, along with Victoria and Brittany. And Brittany fell to the bottom tonight as well! But I think it’s the start of her “comeback” arc. At least, I hope so.

Next week: Video games! Someone is rude!
