The Glee Project: Be Careful What You Wish For, Because You Might Just Get It

Last week on “The Glee Project”: It was fearlessness week! The Gleekabes had to rap for the awesome Jane Lynch, who chose Lily to be the challenge winner. The Gleekabes performed a mash up of “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” and “One Way or Another” and were way too excited to be hit with slushies. Ali struggled with being hit by the cold concoction due to her condition but braved it like a trooper. She and Lily, a standout in the video, were put on the callback list while Charlie, Aylin and Nellie landed in the bottom 3. Nellie was told to be more outgoing, Aylin was told to remain focused on her competition and Ryan questioned if Charlie could fit in on the Glee set. In the end, the budding romance between Aylin and Charlie suffered a devastating blow when he was eliminated. Eight Gleekabes remain, who is eliminated tonight? Find out!

Glee!

Apparently, Michael and Bland are best friends…I guess like Cameron and Damian from last season? They hate competing against each other. But they want to win. Robert comes in to ask how it is without Charlie. “Quiet” everyone agrees. He then tells them it is theatricality week and they have to perform “I Hope I Get It” from “A Chorus Line.” Michael’s like “A What?” But he realizes that he’s one of three guys and needs to step up his game. Robert says “A Chorus Line” is similar to their situation and it is…OMG, a director has to get on a production where Zach is now a reality show judge STAT!

The Gleekabes practice and Lily really gets into the number, which annoys Aylin. She blames her bitchiness on the lack of  her one twu wuv. Anyway, today’s guest judge is Grant Gustin AKA Sebastian Smythe. Guess he had to do something after the Warblers lost. He talks about being on stage blah blah blah, to the number! I think Lily is doing a good job and Bland’s delivery was good.

Robert and Grant applaud. Onto notes: Michael has a good voice but needs confidence. Nellie also needs to be confident, though I thought the line required doubt. He loved Ali and Lily. The winner this week is Ali—which most of us who saw the video ahead of time guessed. She gets a mentoring session with Grant and gets a moment in the video, “When I Grow Up” by the Pussycat Girls. They are grocery store clerks fantasizing about becoming musical icons. The Gleekabes have to become a pop icon.

Michael: Elvis
Aylin: Madonna
Abraham: David Bowie
Bland: Boy George (He loves it)
Lily: Cyndi Lauper
Ali: Katy Perry
Shanna: Lady Gaga
Nellie: Britney Spears

She wonders why she gets Britney Spears but is laughing. So they head to choreography…

HI ZACH! He tells them not to mimic their celebrity but to channel them. Lily feels she is like Cyndi. He tells the Gleekabes not to embarrass him again in the group number. They practice their moves.

Coming Up: Androgyny! Meat dress!

The Gleekabes hit the recording studio. Lily is all bubbly and Michael says he didn’t practice his line. He still struggles but makes Nikki laugh with a noise. He says he’s embarrassed but he’s Elvis. Abraham asks how it went and Michael doesn’t want to talk about it. So he goes into the recording studio and Nikki talks about David Bowie’s androgyny. She asks if he feels the way and it’s a sore subject as he was bullied over it. He struggles with the beat and Nikki wonders why he can’t answer. It’s something he doesn’t want to talk about.

The Gleekabes are transformed into their icons. Nikki is home resting due to her pregnancy. Bland says he has a gay brother and doesn’t want to play up the flamboyancy as not all gay men are like that. Ali’s in a shopping cart as we see her talking to Grant about transitioning from musical theater to pop. Zach and Robert agree this is Ali’s week. The judges are impressed with how Michael performs this week. They don’t think Nellie is throwing herself into it. Lily wants to embody the spunk of Cyndi but the judges think she’s being her, not Cyndi. Shanna is not enjoying her dress, especially the smell. The judges are impressed as Shanna goes off, presumably to find a bucket judging by her expression.

Video time! Umm, you don’t scan fruits and vegetables. Anyway, I thought Nellie did good.

Coming Up: Lily collapses?

The Gleekabes line up as the judges enter. Ali is told she shone this week and gets to wheel off stage, safe. Shanna, Bland and Aylin are also safe. Michael: Confidence issues came up again, struggled in the studio again. Nellie: Supposedly took her a long time to get there, is told by Zach to dive head first. Abraham: Took time and finally mentions he was bullied. Nikki tells him it’s a good thing as a rocker. Lily: Zach says he knows Cyndi doesn’t have her own moves but she could’ve tried to be Cyndi a bit more than she did. Nellie is in the bottom 3 with Abraham and Lily. Michael is safe, to Lily’s surprise. I’d say mine, but he saved himself on the shoot.

Nellie will be singing “I’m the Only One.” Abraham has “Stereo Hearts.” And Lily is singing “Someone Like You.” She falls down when she hears that and Abraham is like “Can I have it?” They go off to rehearse. Lily wants to show Ryan a simple, natural side. Abraham doesn’t want to go home as Nellie talks about how this is an audition for a career…Oh, there’s her problem. This is about inspiring Ryan.

Coming Up: The censors got paid!

Gleekabe extra: Dancing with Zach and Brooke.

The judges file in with Ryan. They start with Nellie, due to the confidence issue. She comes out to perform. I love her voice, but I fear this is her week to go. She’s been there too many times for the same reason. Ryan says it was the most passionate they’ve seen her and asks her who she’d have picked to be in the video. She doesn’t know who. Nikki asks her if she wants to be on Glee or if she wants to be a singer and performer.

Ryan liked Abraham as David Bowie. Nikki brings up that the word “androgyny” brought him into a tailspin. Ryan says they need to talk to him about it. No, Ryan, I think a PROFESSIONAL not a douche needs to talk to him about it because he clearly has issues. Ryan praises Abraham, who knows to just flatter him. But Ryan pretends not to like it and to ask about him about “androgynous.” He talks about being bullied. Ryan thinks it could make him a star and Abraham decided to be less scared. Ryan tells him to stop being afraid.

Last is Lily, who had a good week but she didn’t create a character. She has a gorgeous voice and does perform it well. Of the three, I’ve actually watched her. But I may have been more angry over Ryan’s decision to talk about Abraham’s androgyny than just not interest. Lily says she was confused and got contradicting notes. Ryan says she is making excuses. She says she is used to fighting to get people to notice her and that she’s just as good as the others. Ryan dismisses her.

They think Nellie is relatable and rootable. Abraham is incredibly bold but also fearful. Lily has grown as a person.

Robert posts the list as Lily thinks she is the one going home. He comes in to tell them the list is up. Hugs abound, including Aylin and Lily. They leave holding hands. Nellie is back and forth between “I’m going home” and “I’m not going home” while Lily doesn’t think she deserves to leave. Abraham thinks he has more to give. They approach the list. Like most people thought, Nellie is eliminated this week. She says she is walking away with a new sense of pride and confidence. Everyone comes to say good-bye.

They look near tears while singing back up on “Keep Holding On.”

Nellie
Shanna

*Contestant quit competition

Poor Nellie! I did like her, she seemed the most genuine. Like she and I could actually be friends if she wasn’t actually closer to my sister’s age than mine. And I still think she has a voice not heard on Glee. I want to root for Lily, but then she starts arguing back and I can’t root for her anymore. Shanna for the win!

Next week: Amber Riley! One single take! Ali struggles!

Quote of the Episode:
“I would naw off my own left foot to win this competition.”—Michael
