The Glee Project: I’m a Survivor

Last time on “The Glee Project”: Grant Gustin had nothing to do, so he stopped by to judge the remaining Gleekabes on theatricality. They perform “I Hope I Get It” from “A Chorus Line” and he chooses Ali as the winner. She gets a standout moment in the video, “When I Grow Up.” Her Katy Perry is safe as was Shanna’s Lady Gaga, Bland’s Boy George and Aylin’s Madonna. Michael struggled but his Elvis saved him, leaving the bottom three of Abraham, who struggled to embrace the androgyny of David Bowie; Lily, who didn’t play Cyndi Lauper; and Nellie, who was uncomfortable being sexy as Britney Spears. In the end, Nellie’s insecurity was her downfall and she was sent home. Seven Gleekabes remain, who will go down tonight? Find out!

Glee!

Aylin says she wants Robert to come in because she’s getting more pumped as they get closer. Abraham and Shanna talk in the dorms as he comes in. The others rush from the bedrooms like madmen. Robert waits for the rest and then remembers they got eliminated. He tells the Gleekabes they should be proud of how far they’ve come. This week’s theme is Tenacity. Ali says to see an obstacle as an opportunity. Robert likes this. The homework assignment is “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child. Everyone celebrates, especially Aylin. He hands them their lyric sheets and takes his leave. The Gleekabes practice as Abraham reveals he was going to be a lawyer before becoming a performer and Shanna talks about her druggie mom.

The next day, Robert introduces our guest judge…Ms. Amber Riley AKA Mercedes Jones. Everyone cheers. Apparently, Amber has stress fractures from Glee’s dance numbers but she’s still standing there. In orthopedic shoes, no doubt. She tells them to show her attitude and strength. Start the song Gleekabes. Apparently, tenacity=mean faces. Amber and Robert applauds. Amber wanted more character from Abraham, didn’t think Lily connected with the song, Aylin sounded great, Ali moved a lot. So who is her winner? Ali, for the second week in a row. Aylin comments it before confessing it sucks not to win. She thinks she deserved to win this one. Aylin thinks she deserves to win all of them. Anyway, the Gleekabes will be performing “Eye of the Tiger.” The entire video will be one single shot involving an obstacle course. If someone messes up, everyone has to start again.

No Zach this week. Sad smile So straight to Nikki in the studio with Aylin. She doesn’t think the song is in any of the Gleekabes’ range. Ali impresses Nikki, Abraham practices to land a note. Nikki praises Shanna. Bland runs before singing his line. She predicts him to be the one to beat of the guys. Michael looks adorable with his glasses but knows he was pitchy. Not sure how he does overall. In group, Lily overpowers the others. Aylin comments on it. But Lily does little to tone it down.

Coming up: Ali struggles.

Nikki needs to record with the Glee cast members and can’t be there for the shoot. So it’s just Robert and Zach. Erik runs through the course with the Gleekabes. Ali tries to toss a basketball into a hoop which somehow leads us to her with Amber. She talks about doing physical therapy at 3 or 4. Amber says she is what tenacity is and advises Ali to use that. Zach notes “Good luck.” They start shooting and Robert predicts Bland’s going to be tired. Michael adopts “What will Bland do” and “Do it better.” Lily struggles to get her pants off as Zach asks Aylin to help. Erik reminds them to keep singing as the jump rope section is proving to be difficult. Erik says Abraham is lost. They decide to lose the double Dutch and go with one jump rope. Now they nail it.

As they return to the locker room, Abraham falls but gets back up despite a twisted ankle. We fly through the takes up to Take 25. It was almost done but Ali can’t get the ball in. Shanna throws up as Michael and Lily stay with her. Abraham is limping but continues through. Ali keeps missing the basket. She feels bad for missing. Zach and Robert seem to be enjoying this too much. She suggests lifting her chair up and she dunks it. Shanna and Bland give her pep talks as we go into the video…

I still don’t get the story behind the video though. Or is there not one? Once again, tenacity=mean face I guess. We see Ali lock her wheels as they lift her up. That’s a wrap! I don’t know who is more excited: Erik, the Gleekabes or Robert.

Coming Up: The judges.

Time to reveal the bottom 3. Nikki joins Zach and Robert on stage with the Gleekabes. He praises the group as they survived 34 takes. Everyone seems to be in pain. Nikki apologizes she couldn’t be there but tells them the video is amazing. Ali was amazing, Shanna was tenacious and another person killed it—Bland. All are called back. The four remaining Gleekabes held up the shoot, especially with the jump rope section. Zach says it seems they gave up which Michael says he didn’t want to portray. Nikki notes about the studio and Michael agrees with everything. Lily popped in the video but needs to blend with the group. Zach was impressed she never knocked a hurdle over but Robert noted she lost her focus.

Michael and Abraham are in the bottom 3. There was debate over Aylin and Lily. Aylin is safe, meaning Lily is in the bottom 3. Lily is singing “I’m the Greatest Star” from “Funny Girl.” Michael is singing “Brick.” And Abraham has “Man in the Mirror.” Robert tells Abraham not to be a kiss up. It’d be funny if once a contestant was like “But I am a kiss ass.”

Anyway, the bottom 3 rehearse. Abraham needs a box of tissues. But he promises to go down fighting. Lily struggles with her song while Michael looks calm.

Coming Up: Abraham is not leaving.

Gleekabe extra: Talking about jock straps.

Ryan says the video was awesome as Robert says it was intense. Michael is up first after struggling in the booth. Ryan asks Nikki if he’s a good singer. She says he is but doesn’t stack up with the competition. Michael comes out to sing “Brick.” Ryan praises his performance but that he doesn’t compare to Bland. Michael was part of the jump rope fiasco but took it the worst. Ryan advises him to smile and push on.

Robert notes that Abraham too was involved with the jump rope fiasco but did perform with an injured ankle. Abraham comes out to sing “Man in the Mirror.” Ryan says that he didn’t see the usual laser focus in his performance and asks if it had to do with the injury or the exercise. Abraham says it was mostly his injury. But not to use it as an excuse—which Ryan notes is what he’s doing when he prefaces like that—but Abraham says he fought through the injury and continued performing. Ryan dismisses him and says he doesn’t know if he likes everything that’s mucking Abraham up.

Lily comes out to perform “I’m the Greatest Star.” And she should e in musical theater. She has some great comedic timing. Ryan notes she didn’t know some of the words but he didn’t stop enjoying the performance. They talk about the jump rope fiasco while Lily talks about Aylin’s comment. Ryan notes she’s too good to let someone throw her. Ryan talks to the judges about how amazing they were, they could be on Glee.

Then Abraham comes out, saying he is not leaving until he wins or gets a role on Glee. Ryan says he needs to let his talent speak for him and would be more impressed if Abraham asked to do the song again to do better. But not pontificating. Abraham leaves as the judges talk.

COMMERCIALS!

Robert announces the list has been posted. Hugs all around, including Lily and Aylin. They’re just playing up this dispute, aren’t they? Michael hopes he can stay while Abraham feels he may be going home. But another side says he won’t be going home. Lily is worried after being in the bottom 3 four times. They approach the list. Abraham is not called back. He is shocked and thinks he wanted it so bad and thought he’d win. As the others come to say good-bye, he says he’s leaving with friends and memories. His tears are ones of joy, not sadness.

He sings “Keep Holding On” before leaving.

*Contestant quit competition

I am not jealous of those seven at all. I do not think I could’ve survived 34 takes of such an intense workout. Look at how tired they all were! And Shanna was throwing up! Abraham was limping! I hope he got help for that ankle after getting eliminated. Even though I’m convinced the producers put the eliminated contestants in a hotel or safe house somewhere until the end, getting him help was the least they could do. Otherwise, I’m over them trying to force a rivalry between Aylin and Lily.

Also, can someone tell the Gleekabes that tenacity does not mean “make a mean face”? Please?
