Fooling the Ones You Love

Last time on Face Off: The contestants got to make their own zombies, who then had to do a dance at judging. There was also a double elimination, with both Anthony and Tom going home after the former had sculpture problems and the latter had a bland concept. We’re getting closer to the end…Who will go home this time?

LA! Sam says that since they are down to five people in the lofts, they are going to combine and see what it’s like to live together. Conor says he’s worried—they’re all going home eventually. It’s just who is going to go first.

Everyone meets McKenzie at the lab. She calls makeup artists the masters of disguise. But in the spotlight challenge, they will be disguising themselves. They have to make themselves completely unrecognizable. They will then play a wig shop employee. A special guest will be sent inside and the contestants will have to full them. McKenzie gives them a black envelope containing the person they will have to full. They open them and Megan freaks out. Turns out that they have flown in one of their loved ones to fool. Here’s the list:

Sam: Husband
Gage: Boyfriend
Megan: Mother
Tate: Girlfriend
Conor: Sister

McKenzie says the judges will be watching to see how well they fool their loved ones and how they embody their character. McKenzie starts the clock and everyone starts creating their character. Megan plans to be a pregnant bitch to throw her mother off and Tate says that’s the beauty of this challenge: they know how to mess with their loved ones. He’s going disgusting because he knows what will turn his girlfriend off. Megan worries that she’ll laugh and give herself away. Sam decides to go the opposite sex as does Gage, who is also going to change his ethnicity. Conor is worried that Gage is aiming too high while trying to make sure his sister won’t be able to spot his own prosthetic.

Day 2! They all move on to the molding phase. Gage makes false ears to cover his piercing while Conor makes fake teeth. Tate decides to make his belly from gelatin for a jiggle. Glenn and McKenzie makes an appearance and notice that Megan is using a model as inspiration. Gage notes that it’s the model who Conor has worked with quite a bit. After touring the others, Glenn is interested in Conor’s minimal approach and Gage’s complete transformation. He’s worried about Tate’s pieces and Sam’s makeup. They leave and Conor goes around with his teeth.  The sun sets.

They return to the loft and Tate says he wants to see Sam’s piece. She’s worried that she’s making the wrong decisions. Gage and Tate go to shave their facial hair, making sacrifices for their art. As they shave, Conor shows Sam a funny guy walk. Meanwhile, Tate and Gage talk about Megan’s model choice.

Day 3! Application day. The contestants get assistants since they will be applying it to themselves. Everyone begins their transformations—Sam applies her face while Tate and Gage go through makeup. Conor places his hair on while Megan has trouble with her face application. Conor though confesses that he thinks it was great. As we go to commercial, Megan decides it has to come off.

Megan says she isn’t going to keep trying to make the makeup work. She and Conor have a powwow as she tries to fix her makeup. The assistants leave as Megan decides to go foundation and makeup. Everyone gets into their clothes and wigs as the clock run downs. We see their final transformations and everything seems to be coming together—even Megan’s. Now, though, they have to fool their loved ones. They meet in the back and are worried. Another model, Deb, works as another coworker so they know who should be up.

Conor’s sister is first. She decides to browse as Conor lurks around the shop. He helps her with a wig and makes the sale. As she leaves, he asks for a hug and she’s shocked. She was completely fooled as Gage’s boyfriend comes in. Gage is worried that his boyfriend will figure it out, so he changes his personality. The boyfriend is fooled as well. They hug as the boyfriend is stunned. Tate reveals that his girlfriend is a special effects artist as well. He is happy when his girlfriend looks away. She even ignores him the entire time. Tate asks completely useless and then reveals himself. She’s surprised. Megan’s mom is next. She starts to panic.

Coming Up: The judges have their say.

Megan tries out her accent on others and then helps his mother. As she leaves, Megan reveals and asks if her mother recognized her. Mom says no and then says that Megan was cute. Sam then tries to fool her husband. Sam sounds like her character has a cold. She is worried about the ringing up part. Sam tells him “You’re welcome, sugar” and he still doesn’t get it until she calls his name. He then realizes who she is.

At the loft, everyone got to bring their loved ones along. Gage makes a toast as they enjoy their food. They then say good-bye to their loved ones.

Time to face the judges! McKenzie introduces the judges: Glenn, Ve and Patrick. McKenzie plays back some of the videos. Sam is up first for the judges’ comments. Glenn says it ended up terrible as we go to commercials.

We come back to the rest of Sam’s critique. Glenn says her sculpture was in trouble when he visited but that it ended up terribly brilliant. Oh, Glenn. He was impressed with the gelatin and the color. Patrick says her face looked masculine and he buys that she was a man. Ve says she is proud of her. Tate congratulates her before going before the judges. Patrick says he’s a fan. Tate rates his makeup as 6 but Glenn likes it. He says that the performance was the thing that could’ve given Tate away, not the make up. Ve says she couldn’t look at him and congratulates him. Gage is next. Glenn says he was worried about the makeup in the studio but he was impressed with the execution. Ve calls his move “brave” and asked why there was no makeup. Gage says it looked too cartoony. Patrick praises him as well.

Conor is next up. Ve says it was a beautiful makeup job but that it looks like him. Ve calls him Conor’s ugly cousin. Glenn agrees that there is so much of Conor coming through. In the video the judges saw, his sister even admits he looks like their father. Megan is next. There was a commercial break there, I can tell. But I am watching on demand. Glenn says he’s disappointed with her makeup. He understands that there might have been problems but she should’ve shown them what she was trying to do. Ve doesn’t think Megan fooled her mother and that she fell off the fence she’s been sitting on the past few weeks. Megan just says she’s tired. Sam tries to give her comfort.

The judges have reached a decision. The top looks are Sam and Gage. But the overall winner is Sam. Yay! She’s been the dark horse of the competition. McKenzie says that Sam has the right to discuss with the judges on who should be elimination. But Glenn interrupts her and says it’s not necessary. They’ve already agreed to send Megan home. Ve says it’s painful because there are only a few women working in this field. Megan is sent back stage. McKenzie congratulates the final four and says one of them will become the winner next week. Wow.

Megan says good-bye and says she’ll continue to work in this field. She tells Conor she’ll miss him most of all.

Sorry this is delayed. I was sick last week and missed the episode. But it’s sad to know that tonight is the finale. I’ll miss Megan, but I’m still rooting for Conor. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if either Tate or Sam took it all. How about you?

Quote of the Episode:

“Mom’s have this weird voo-doo (bleep) that helps them know their kids.”—Tate about Megan fooling her mom.
