Models Roasting on an Open Fire

Last week on ANTM: It was makeovers! Which weren’t so great and we had no real meltdown. Molly’s weave was horrendous but she soldiered on. During the photo shoot, Lori Goldstein couldn’t help but notice how sullen Alexandria was and commented on it. But Alexandria had the best photo while Sara and Dominique fell into the bottom two. Dominique was sent home for not being inspiring enough. Who will be sent home this time? Find out!

The girls come home and try to act excited about Alexandria’s photo. We flashback to Tyra telling her that a bad attitude will not be tolerated and Alexandria says she wants to redeem herself. Kasia is surprised that Alexandria got top photo after being called a diva on set. Brittani agrees and says that a top model doesn’t act the way Alexandria (who is brushing her hair) acts. Kasia says everyone would love for Alexandria to go home.

Meanwhile, Sara talks about being in the bottom two. She says she’s a feminist and from a poor background and doesn’t consider herself as feminine as the other models. She says she has to believe she’s a model. Monique asks Sara what her priority is: school or modeling and Sara replies “School.” By the by, did you hear that Tyra’s enrolled in Harvard? Alexandria, though, says she’s going to be working some runways and working for IMG. She says she’s going to New York no matter what happens. Sara says that they can’t leave their families and that they have to start small. Alexandria, meanwhile, has this look that says, “I will set you ablaze.” Sara makes the excellent point that she wants to be able to provide for her loved ones after modeling ends. Alexandria confesses that it’s about being a super model.

TYRA MAIL! “If you don’t watch your step, your career will go up in flames.” Jaclyn decides it’s about a firehouse and Sara asks if she wants to see some firemen.

LA! The Model Mobile takes them to meet with Ms. J! He tells the girls they will be modeling in a runway challenge wearing clothes from Geoffrey Mac, who has styled Lady Gaga. Dayla is excited as she believes that she has the best runway walk. Ms. J tells the girls he wants to see the light of their dream and be inspired by how much they want to ignite their dreams. As he mentions the word flame, the runway ignites! Burn the models? Oh, and is that a 10 I spy on Ms. J’s shirt? Seems he/she/it is still accessorizing for the occasion. Monique wonders what the hell is up with the flames. Monique, you have seen the show before, right? Ms. J says that they will be lighting the models on fire as well. Wow, they really are going to burn the models! I’m guessing the one who doesn’t die wins? As Ms. J tells them that the winner will get two dresses from the Geoffrey Mac collection and then sends them to hair and makeup.

The hairstylist takes Molly’s weave out and dumps the hair on her lap. The weave finally comes completely out as the guests start to arrive for the barbecue. Hannah says she’s nervous and figures the worst possible scenario is a third degree burn. Sara is nervous as she’s never walked down a runway before and now she has to do it while her hands are on fire. Ms. J says that if they fall, they should clap their hands to put out the flames and get off the runway quickly. Ms. J welcomes the crowd to the show and tells them it’s going to be hot.

And then they light the runway.

And the models panic.

Alexandria says she’s scared but she goes first. She lights her hands on fire and walks down the runway. Ms. J thinks she held her own. Alexandria says she wants to do it again as Brittani reveals she’s a pyromaniac. Alexandria calls Brittani strong competition and she seems confident on the runway. Mikaela and Jaclyn also manage not get burned as Molly hits the runway. She admits to being a pyro as well. Sara has difficulty lighting her hands on fire but manages to do so. She rushes her runway as Kasia owns the runway, though Ms. J thinks she’s relying on being sexy. Hannah and Monique survive the runway. Dalya hits the runway and impresses Ms. J. The girls come out for the final turn and the runway explodes one last time.

The models meet with Ms. J for their critiques. She/He/It mentions Sara’s difficulty getting lit and asks for more personality from Hannah. He tells her to get out of the sexy mouth. He singles out Alexandria, Brittani and Dayla as the best of the pack. Dayla wins the challenge. He tells her she looked elegant and she held it together. She gets the two dresses and says she felt she got to prove herself. He/She/It tells Sara, Hannah and Kasia that they are walking home tonight to practice their walks. They don’t believe him/her/it and they really do have to walk home. They believe everyone is laughing at home as they walk through a bad area. Kasia decides to put her heels back on to practice. So the girls start strutting down the sidewalk.

They arrive home and Kasia says they are just going to practice.

TYRA MAIL! “Tomorrow it’s okay for you to cause a scene.” They determine they will have to act as Sara answers the door. It’s an envelope with scripts. Monique starts talking in a British accent and says that the script is for Fierce Roast. She and Hannah read the script in the bathroom as Sara and Molly practice in the kitchen. Sara believes she is going to be the man in the scene as she doesn’t think she can do feminine. She talks about being a feminist and trying to move from being the docile, subservient woman. Okay, but you can be a feminist and still be feminine too, Sara.

Anyway, the models meet Mr. Jay at Smashbox Studios the next day. He says they are doing a commercial where they have to be sexy, flirty and fun. The set is very retro. He introduces them to their director: Francesco Carrozzini. The girls freak out. Mr. Jay says that a performance in front of a film camera is just as important as taking still pictures. He tells them they will be paired up and then sends them to the make up.

The make up artist tells Hannah that she’s their Doris Day, explaining who Doris Day was. Hannah explains that the setting is 50’s, Mad Men era. Okay, sweetie, I don’t watch Mad Men and I know it’s set in the 1960s. She then goes on about how it’s when women were suppressed and had to use their sexuality to get ahead. Jaclyn and Kasia practice while Alexandria is more thrilled than Brittani to be paired together. Sara is worried she’ll be outshined by the others as Monique notes that this is the second time she is paired with Sara. She isn’t certain Sara is confident enough. Meanwhile, Jaclyn gets a fake booty and she starts shaking it.

Mr. Jay coaches Sara and Monique about the concept behind the commercial—their male boss is stuck and they have to feed him the ideas. But Alexandria and Brittani are up first. They seem to nail the sex appeal, though Alexandria is told she’s going a bit too far. Francesco asks Brittani to use her lips better and she admits she doesn’t like coffee. Mr. Jay tells her that she has to convince us that she likes it even if she doesn’t. She starts to cry and Alexandria goes over to blow her down, cooling her down like my parents do when I get too upset. Mr. Jay notes that Alexandria started doing everyone’s job on set. Francesco is stunned and goes to reprimand her.

Kasia thinks  that the commercial is very empowering because the women are really the brains behind the operations. Jaclyn goofs her lines but gathers her nerves. Monique thinks Kasia did “awesome.” Francesco tells her she did well as well. Molly and Dayla go next. I think Dayla got the sex appeal more than Molly. Next up is Monique and Hannah. Monique says “French Roast” and is corrected. She thinks its because that’s what she drinks. Mikaela is shaking but manages to fix herself. Sara says her lines to Sara and then puts her thumb in the cup. Mr. Jay says it’s as sexy as watching paint dry. Francesco senses that Sara didn’t believe in the whole thing from the beginning and just gave up.

That’s a wrap.

SKULLS and CROSSBONES! Since no one got roasted, no one’s going to get eaten by sharks either. They realize they are now going into the single digits. Brittani looks down because she didn’t have a good day while Alexandria keeps saying that they worked together as a team. Brittani thinks she’s a bitch. Sara is very nervous and says that if she’s told she doesn’t have enough confidence, she’s going to freak out.

Everyone greets each other at backstage as Tyra says she’s hot. She greets the wannabes and says she has her whip outfit on. I’m slightly disturbed. Anyway, there are prizes. And there are judges: Nigel Barker and Andre Leon Talley. And the guest judge is Francesco Carrozzini. Of course. I’m still glad Andre got rid of those robes. So, Tyra references Mad Men for their commercials. Monique and Hannah go first. Monique laughs watching her performance. Nigel says “Bravo” and thinks both did a good job. He praises Hannah’s look and body language. He thinks Monique was a bit too reserved. Tyra thinks they could’ve pushed it a bit more.

Next is Jaclyn and Kasia. Tyra thinks they nailed it. She calls it one of her favorite Top Model moments. Nigel was taken in by Kasia. Tyra thinks that they milked every moment. Jaclyn mentions her fake booty and Tyra makes her show how she worked it. Brittani and Alexandria step forward, all smiles. Nigel doesn’t think the partnership came across. He loved Brittani’s facial expressions but she needed to model H2T. Tyra thinks that Brittani would’ve done a good job but she didn’t and that Alexandria’s was too sexy for her. Francesco talks about Alexandria taking over and she says she was just trying to keep the chemistry together. Andre says in real life, that would get her dismissed.

Finally, Sara and Mikaela approach. Andre tells Sara just got lost. Nigel tells Mikaela that she had photo moments everywhere but was flat as an actress. Francesco tells Sara she was difficult to direct. Molly and Dayla step forward and we see the second attempt at Molly’s weave. It isn’t as bad but it still needs work. They applaud Dayla’s challenge win. Nigel though thinks Dayla’s movements didn’t work and Francesco thinks Molly got lost. Tyra gives them some advice before sending the girls out of the room.

LA! The judges deliberation. Andre thinks Monique pulled through and Nigel thinks she looks amazing. Francesco didn’t much care for her. Nigel thinks Hannah had everything and Francesco agrees. Francesco thinks Kasia was the best and the others agree. Andre calls Jaclyn strong and Nigel loved how well her voice fit the commercial. Andre calls Alexandria weak and blah and Nigel can’t believe that she defended her actions on set. Francesco thinks she has a dangerous mindset. Tyra thinks Brittani wanted to disappear while Nigel thinks that Sara was convinced she was miscast. Francesco says Mikaela has no idea about how to use her body while Tyra wants to shake her. Andre thinks that Dayla went with less is more and it worked. Andre thinks that Molly made it work and Francesco thinks she has presence. Nigel wants coffee.

ELIMINATION! The first photo goes to Kasia. She is joined by Hannah, Jaclyn, Dayla, Monique, Molly, Mikaela, and Brittani. This leaves Alexandria and Sara in the bottom two. I think you can see where this is heading. They approach Tyra as Sara whispers “One last walk.” Can I just say that Sara looks amazing this panel? Anyway…Sara: Lovely, interesting face. The girl that Tyra loves but lack of commitment in the performance. And that lack of confidence. Alexandria: Did a decent job, though she leant toward sleazy. But there’s a pattern. The stylist and the director both complained about her. Who stays? Alexandria’s confidence. She and Sara hug and Tyra tells Alexandria it’s the last time she’ll be told she could go home due to attitude. Alexandria promises it’ll never happen again.

Tyra tells Sara that she’s mad at her and Sara apologizes. Tyra tells her to believe in her beauty and she’ll be a model. She says she’s disappointed in herself and that it’s her own fault she’s going home.

Dominique
Hannah
Jaclyn
Kasia
Mikaela
Molly
Monique
Nicole
Ondrei*

*Model quit the competition

So there’s a pattern emerging for Alexandria. Do you think it’ll be her kiss of death? I hope Brittani can get it back together, she’s slipping. But I love that Kasia got called first! Hopefully she can become the second plus sized model to win this competition. I wonder if they’ll be a non-elimination this cycle since Ondrei opted out of her own accord. And I really enjoyed seeing Ms J’s 10 shirt. It was a nice throwback.

Exchange of the Episode:

“And you like the booty?”
“We love the booty.”
“Mine is real.” –Jaclyn, stylist, and Kasia about Jaclyn’s fake booty.
