Galavant: There Aren't Giants in the Sky

Last time on “Galavant:” Richard continued to make trouble for Galavant and learned that Roberta was a childhood friend of his. When Galavant learnt this, he plotted to get the two together in hopes that Richard would then focus on Roberta rather than him. Dinner, though, was disastrous and it didn’t seem to work on Richard. Roberta, however, did fall for Richard. Or rather, she was already falling and realized that he was dense.

Or agreed with my theory that Richard is gay and in love with Galavant.

Madalena was invited two a roast held by two powerful queens and was horrified to learn that she was the one being roasted. She then walked home and when Gareth learned of her humiliation, he exacted revenge. Touched, Madalena and Gareth realized they might have deeper feelings for the other.

Isabella was still happily making wedding plans but Gwynne was having a hard time adjusting to life in the palace. So she and Chef left.

Aww.

Richard wakes Galavant to introduce his friend to Tad Cooper, his lizard. I’m sorry, his dragon. Galavant tries to get the king to see reason and that Tad Cooper is probably an iguana. But definitely not a lizard. In the end, he loses his cool and unleashes on Richard once again. This time, Richard takes Tad Cooper and goes off to sing a sad song. It ends with him being captured.

(Is there a problem?)

In Hortensia, Wormwood and his assistant show off the color chosen for the table cloths. Isabella loves it. He goes off to speak privately with his assistant, who gets confused if they’re talking about the wedding plans or the plan to take over the kingdom. When they realize they’re close to being overheard, Wormwood then asks about one person who didn’t respond if they were coming to the wedding, Princess Jubilee. The King and Queen are like “Just put her down for the chicken or something. It’s okay. Wormwood has a near heart attack and uses Isabella to send them to the dungeons. He then encourages her to go and ask Princess Jubilee if she’s coming.

(No, they're not suspicious at all. /sarcasm)
Galavant hears tell of giants in the area and goes in search of them. He finds them and asks for their help. They are all for it save for one thing: They have unfinished business with the dwarfs. The giant leader comes down and tells Galavant that if he helps them with the dwarfs, they’ll help him storm Hortensia and rescue Isabella.

It should also be mentioned that the giants aren’t very giant. In fact, they’re all Galavant’s height.

(See?)
Gareth and Sid go for a walk through Valencia and Gareth confides in Sid that he’s falling in love. Sid wonders who the lucky lady is and Gareth points to Madalena. Sid reminds Gareth that she’s awful and her last relationships had ended in betrayal (Galavant), exile (Richard) and murder (Richard’s brother). All the more reason why Gareth loves her. Sid thinks he’s mental.

(Gareth's smitten; Sid's concerned)
Out on a field, the “giants” and the “dwarfs” (who are also the same size as Galavant and Richard) meet. Galavant is surprised to see Richard, but Richard says the dwarfs are his friends now. The feuding sides reveal that their argument is over a bridge that isn’t completed…because the dwarfs built their half too low and the giants built their halves too high. Poor Bobbi, stuck in the middle, can’t believe what she has to deal with and tells them it’s a nonissue.

They ignore her.

(You deserve better, Bobbi)
At a pub, Sid continues to dissuade Gareth from falling in love with Madalena. He says that she will rip his heart out…and he’s not talking figuratively. Another shout out to Once Upon a Time, with all the people who have pulled hearts out over four and a half seasons? I’d like to think so. Sid then makes Gareth promise not to tell Madalena what he said, holding him to the Bro Code.

(Bros?)
Isabella rides to Princess Jubilee’s palace, asking to see her. Jubilee (Sheridan Smith) is carried in and she’s not your usual fairy tale princess. She’s not even a warrior princess. The best thing I can compare her to is a biker chick. She’s tough and possibly drunk and can no doubt even break Isabella in half. Run away, Isabella!

(All hail Princess Jubilee)
Jubilee launches into a song about how she loves to be bad and she’s not a lady. Isabella is scandalized as she’s jerked about by Jubilee’s court of back up dancers. In the process, her crown is knocked off and breaks. Wormwood’s control over her is broken and she tries to figure out what’s been happening. She thanks Jubilee and says she has to go make things right.

(Yay!)
The dwarfs and giants march out to war, accompanied by Galavant and Richard. An exasperated Bobbi meets them there, once again pointing out that their fight is stupid. She directs this not only at the feuding groups who are the same damn size but also at Galavant and Richard. Bobbi points out that no matter what’s happened, Richard has always been by his side. Galavant realizes that the king is a good friend and his strongest ally and makes up with him. They agree to go rescue Isabella.

(Galavant realizes some truths)
Inspired, the dwarfs and giants make up as well. They apologize for not going with Galavant and Richard to Hortensia, but they have a bridge to finish. So once again, it’s Galavant, Richard and Roberta riding off to rescue Isabella.

Sid walks into the throne room, asking Gareth about Madalena. She answers, repeating his comment about literally tearing people’s hearts from their chests. Gareth flinches and says he may have told her that. Madalena comes closer, outraged as Gareth admits he told her everything Sid said. Sid’s like “But the bro code!” and Gareth’s like “Look at her!” Madalena threatens Sid and he runs.

(They're smitten)
Things are moving…I think? I just hope we’ve really ended the “Richard does something stupid and Galavant blows up” plots. They got old fast. I am glad Isabella is free of Wormwood and I’m curious to see where they take Gareth and Madalena.

Next time: Isabella gives Wormwood the heave ho! Galavant is reunited with his dad!
