Galavant: Off to War

Last time on “Galavant:” Though he was rushed to greatest healer in the land, Neo of Sporin, Galavant died. But Richard was able to provide an ingredient for a potion that could bring the man back to life. While dead, Galavant learned about the impending battle between Isabella and Madalena. He also learned that Isabella thought he hated her. Determined to right everything, Galavant returned to life…just as Roberta and Richard were going to kiss.

Wormwood helped Gareth and Madalena plan their war and wondered if a wedding was also in their future. This freaked Madalena out but in the end, she and Gareth agreed they were in love and would proceed from there. They rallied their troops and headed out to Hortensia.

Isabella ended up being the one to lead Hortensia into battle and she was distraught to see she had barely anything to work with. But she remained determined as she prepared to go out to war.

Neo of Sporin provided an army when he revealed he had a bunch of zombies wandering around his abode. So Galavant led them out to save Isabella.

Will he succeed? Let’s find out!

The zombie army marches on with Galavant at the helm. Sid is still feeling guilty about his part in killing Galavant and not even Galavant himself can help him forgive himself. As they break for the night, Richard and Roberta decide to pick up where they left off in Neo’s lair—it’s time for their kiss. And maybe more.

Go, Richard. And go, Roberta. You’ve waited long enough for this!

(Sorry there wasn't a better shot. It was night time)

Isabella, meanwhile, goes with the Jester to discuss ending the war peacefully with Madalena. Jester is absolutely terrified by the Valencian forces and one has to wonder why they would agree to fight their own rulers. I guess Isabella’s parents weren’t so great at being king and queen.

Madalena is not interested in any talk of peace. So Isabella promises that they will defeat her forces on the battlefield as the women circle each other and pretty much sing about how much they despise each other. Isabella takes the Jester with her and they head back to their own camp, the Jester still intimidated by Valencia’s army.

(Girl fight?)
Back in her tent, Madalena has been rattled by Isabella’s bravado. She wants to make sure she wins the battle and Wormwood offers a way—he says he can teach her the dark art of D’Dew. I guess it’s magic with all the lemon-line aftertaste and none of the calories. Madalena wants to learn it but Gareth wants them to fight honorably—no magic. She promises and Wormwood retires to his own tent.

(He's excited about this)
In the morning, Galavant and his zombie army arrive at Valencia…only to find it deserted. He’s forlorn and it doesn’t help that Richard and Roberta come strutting in later. They are more than happy to revel in their love and Richard takes her into the castle for some sexytimes.

Madalena sneaks into Wormwood’s tent and asks him to give her the power of D’Dew. He agrees and puts down the baby he’s holding. Wormwood hands her the knife and she looks horrified for a moment before steeling herself to kill the baby. He stops her, saying sacrifice is not required. He’s just watching the baby for a friend and was about to cut something to eat. Relieved, Madalena goes to sign away her soul for the powers. She cuts her hand and he’s like “Not in blood.” Madalena signs and gets the power.

Isabella returns to Harry’s palace and tries to get advice but no one can give her any. So she does her best to rally her troops and prepare them for battle.

Galavant can’t get his undead army to do anything but shuffle about. They certainly won’t listen to him either. He tries to get through to them, but nothing seems to work…until he starts talking about Isabella. The zombies respond to that and he realizes they’ll fight for love. He uses that to pep them up and then goes to find Richard and Roberta.

(Love!)
Richard muses on how poor of a king he really was and Roberta assures him that he is a good man. Galavant comes in to announce that he can control their zombie army and he’s ready to head out to Hortensia. Richard still wants to go and Roberta pleads with him not to. She tells him to come with her to her aunt’s farm where they could be happy. Richard’s confused as to why she doesn’t want him to go.

Roberta tells him that she loves him but she also knows he’s not the greatest solder. She doesn’t care about that. But she doesn’t want to lose him. She knows that if he goes to fight with Galavant, he’s not going to come back. She pleads with him to stay with her.

(Oh no!)
Richard says he has to fight and asks if this means they’re breaking up. She says it looks like that and they part as Richard joins Galavant and the zombie army. They head off to join the fray as Isabella’s forces face off against Madalena’s.

(Zombies to war!)
Poor Roberta! Just when she got her man, she could possibly lose him! And who knew when this started that we’d be rooting for Richard? He’s more of the star than Galavant, let’s be honest.

And giving Madalena powers? I feel like they are trying to turn her into Regina. While I would love for them to meet, Regina would destroy Madalena in seconds.

Next time: Everyone comes together on the battlefield. This could be the greatest fight set to music since West Side Story.
