Galavant: Rally!

Last time on “Galavant”: Madalena sold her soul in order to get the dark powers of D’Dew from Wormwood, despite the fact Gareth didn’t want her too. Isabella tried to rally her troops. Galavant realized his zombie army responded to true love. Richard and Roberta finally got together but broke up when Richard insisted on fighting with Galavant. She knew he wouldn’t survive and decided to go live on Spinster Island.

Time for the exciting conclusion!

Hey, remember the Mightiest Earworm to Ever Try and Take On “It’s A Small World”? You know, the song that opened Galavant that you were humming until ABC killed it by using it for several commercials?

It’s back.

The Jester recaps everything using the song that opened the show and, to be honest, it’s now a very nice callback. He finishes, standing between the forces of Hortensia and Valencia as they applaud. Madalena and Gareth express their appreciation for the Jester’s voice yet again.

(All hail the Jester)

Wormwood asks Madalena if she’s ready to head up to the nice tent he set up so they could watch the battle from a safe distance. Gareth stops her, saying he thought they would be fighting together. She says they will be…she’s just going to be in the nice tent. With food, Wormwood adds. They ride off.

Despite everyone’s hesitance, Isabella rallies her troops from Hortensia. They cheer and head toward the advancing Valencian troops. Meanwhile, Galavant and Richard survey the field from afar. Galavant thinks it looks bad but Richard reminds him they have a dragon, showing him Tad Cooper. Galavant is like “It’s a lizard, you moron.”

(Tad Cooper!)
Gareth goes up to the tent to talk to Madalena. She’s content to stay in the tent and during their conversation, her eyes glow. Gareth notices it and demands to know if she went and got the power of D’Dew behind his back. She denies it and sends him down to start the battle.

(Certainly more comfy than being in the middle of a battle)
The forces start to run at each other as we cut to a house in the middle of a desert. There’s a little garden and Chef harvests some vegetables. He drops them into Gwynne’s basket and she’s thrilled to see some maggots. She heads back inside as Chef looks up. He blanches and heads inside, asking if they’ve had a good life. She replies they have and asks what’s wrong. They both look out their window to find they are in the middle of the battlefield.

Uh oh.

As Isabella and Gareth lead their forces, Wormwood tries to convince Madalena to use the D’Dew powers to win. She hesitates though because she had promised Gareth not to use magic. Her conscience actually exists and is trying to convince her to do the right thing.

Let’s see how long that lasts.

In the midst of battle, we have two big reunions. The first is Galavant and Isabella. He tries to assure her that he never insulted her and that he does love her. She forgives him and they have a moment. As this is going on, Gareth and Richard are also reunited. The two friends are happy to see each other…even if they are fighting on opposite sides.

(Together again)
With Galavant’s zombie army bolstering the forces of Hortensia, Wormwood doubles down on persuading Madalena to use her magic. This time it works and she takes the wand he gives her. She uses her magic to turn the zombie army against Galavant, Isabella and them.

(Behold Evil Queen Madalena)
Galavant tries to use love to get through to the zombies but Madalena’s spell is too strong. The forces have no other option but to fall back into the safety of Hortensia’s walls. Gareth joins them as they beat back zombies, getting inside and barricading the doors.

As everyone is tense, Madalena asks to be let in. While they aren’t too keen to do so, the gates are opened and she enters. She offers them a chance to surrender but they refuse. Madalena then asks Gareth to return with her but he chooses to stay with Richard. She’s disappointed and leaves, ready to unleash hell on them.

(Madalena flanked by two of the three men who have loved her)
Galavant and Isabella stand together, rallying everyone to stand against Madalena. The main cast lines up with their swords, ready to fight whatever comes through the gates.

(Rally!)
We’re advancing toward the finale. It’s nice to see Gareth fighting for Richard but how are they going to overcome D’Dew?

Next time: The end! Will we get a happy ending?
