ANTM: The Comeback Kid

Last week on “Top Model:” Marvin cried. Nonstop. Kelly tested them on their fashion knowledge…while they were in their underwear. For every correct answer, the contestants earned money to spend to put together an outfit. Don charmed his way to a challenge win. Then they had to pose while paint was thrown on them. Jourdan rose to the top again while Phil and Jiana ended up in the bottom two. Jiana was eliminated as Phil gets to model another day. Eight contestants remain, who goes home tonight? Find out!

Top Model!

On the model mobile, Jourdan relishes her best photo call out—her third. She feels on top of her game. Meanwhile, everyone else is surprised Jiana went home. Phil notes their social media scores must’ve been points apart before someone else—Renee, I think—mentions that they don’t know how the eliminated contestants are doing since they are still in the running to comeback. Everyone is nervous about that, especially Chris H. Marvin thinks Phil is doomed while Phil notes that there are more men left than women. But Don notes that Jourdan is true competition right now.

Back at the house, they all admire Jourdan’s picture. Renee says she’s tired of looking at Jourdan’s face but says it in a way that you know she’s just joking around. But she got second place and she’s going to work to get first. Meanwhile, Jourdan invites Renee to join her in the Tyra Suite even though she didn’t like Renee’s picture. The two aren’t besties but seem to be just keeping an eye on her enemy.

Wanna be on top?

After the credits, Marvin admits he nearly gave all the men on “Any Dream Will Do” a run in the tears department last week. But we have a brand new Marvin! Except not as he still has no game and tries to pick up Renee since Jiana is gone. Well, he doesn’t say that. Instead, he talks about the “chemistry” between him and Renee in challenges and photoshoots. You keep thinking that, Marvin. But wait! In the Tyra Suite, Renee says she might like Marvin. Jourdan’s like, “Really?” And I’m wondering if it’s Stockholm.

The next day, Rob meets the models and introduces them to Alexis Borges, Director, Next Model Management. Next will represent the winner and needs to see how they are at booking jobs. So Rob says they will try to book spots in the Style Fashion Week fashion show that night and will be going on go-sees! Phil is excited for this.

Nina is first up for Paulie Gibson and he loves her. After breezing by Don and Chris H, we see Marvin come in. Paulie likes his look but thought Marvin didn’t make an impression. They make Phil take his hat and shirt off and Phil admits he still doesn’t know how to take care of his extensions. He does make Paulie laugh and Paulie praises his photos. Jourdan is next and is confident she has it in the bag. Paulie says she is the full package but he still was not wowed by her. That she was doing nothing new, nothing special. But Paulie tells her her walk was too good so Jourdan goes back and brags about that. Renee is determined to rock it and she does. I kinda like Paulie Gibson. Paulie picks everyone but Marvin and Jourdan. He tells Marvin he’s strong but needs some work. And Jourdan is just flat, no personality. Chris H thinks Jourdan needed to be knocked down a peg.

The girls head over to XCVI to meet Daniela. Jourdan says the clothes are her style and is excited. Nina walks first and doesn’t impress Daniela. We fly by Jourdan’s and Renee’s walks, but in the end Daniela chooses to work with Renee due to her “wow” factor. Jourdan is devastated and has a panic attack while the girls chill out. She says runway is her thing and doesn’t understand why she wasn’t picked. It wasn’t your runway, Jourdan. It was your personality. Namely the fact you didn’t show one. Nina says she is enjoying watching a top dog knocked down as Jourdan cries that she could go home. As she is bleeped, we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

We come back to Jourdan still panicking. Renee says she understands as Jourdan didn’t book either show. And Jourdan seems to know it’s her personality. And Renee says it’s not that she doesn’t have personality but that everyone else in the competition has larger ones that overshadow her. Nina reminds Jourdan not to count out the guys.

Speaking of the guys, they are over at Civil Society! Cory and Don impress the guy there and Marvin seems to be awkward. The guy likes Phil’s personality. In the end, he picks Don, Chris H and Phil to walk in the show. He tells Marvin he needs to have more confidence.

They go back to Style Fashion Week. Those who are walking in shows get ready while Jourdan and Marvin meet with Alexis. They admit they didn’t book any shows but Jourdan says it was her personality and that she didn’t shine as bright as the others. Alexis says it was refreshing to hear a model acknowledge why she failed. Marvin resorts to flattering Alexis.

Everyone settles in for the shows. We see Renee walk for XCVI. Alexis looks impressed and Rob is beaming like a proud Tyra. Phil walks for Civil Society, followed by Don. Jourdan and Marvin praise him backstage, watching his walk. Alexis wasn’t too impressed with Chris H. Paulie’s show involved dancing as Nina notes Paulie is mostly a male line so it’s a big deal to be a “Paulie Girl.” Alexis praises Renee. Paulie also loved her as well. Alexis liked Don, wasn’t too sure about Phil.

Afterwards, Rob and Alexis talk with the models. They were impressed with Renee and Rob notes that Paulie hugged Renee at the end of his show, which is a big deal. Alexis talks about how Phil did something with his jacket that didn’t look right and then they call Don a supermodel. So who won the challenge? Renee! Jourdan is worried because now Renee is a threat.

The models return home and Renee enjoys her prizes. Phil takes his challenge score hard and it’s not the lowest. He got an 8 while Marvin and Jourdan both got 6’s. As he beats up the punching bag, Marvin can’t understand why he’s so upset. But Renee cuddles with Marvin so he doesn’t focus on it for long. He does realize he’s a bit of a jinx as the girls he likes go home. Watch your back, Renee, as we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

The next day, Johnny meets the models at Canyon Ranch. He tells them they will be lying in the grass while wearing couture. Renee isn’t feeling this as she’s allergic to ants, apparently. Johnny sends them to hair and makeup. Jourdan skips around in her couture gown, Marvin annoying her in the process. As Cory and Renee watch, Renee admits to sharing Marvin’s bed. Cory’s very surprised. Renee admits to being distracted by Marvin. Marnee sneaks up on us!

Nina is up first and meets the photographer, Matthew Jordan Smith. After she learns where the camera is (above her), Nina rocks the photoshoot. Don goes next and struggles. Cory follows and also rocks the shoot. Meanwhile, Jourdan finds a frog and goes to make a new friend. Renee is freaked out about it. So Jourdan naturally torments her with it. She even drops the frog onto Renee, who is cursing and shoving and just not happy. She vows revenge as we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

Renee and Cory try to give Phil some advice while Nina notes he’s been in the bottom a lot lately. She says he has to really step up his game if he wants to stay in the competition. Does he? No, not according to Johnny. He thinks Phil needs to do something big to stay in the game. Renee is next and ready to kick Jourdan’s butt. And she rocks it. Jourdan goes next and she talks about not getting booked because her walk was too good. Johnny and Matthew don’t think that is possible. She seems to rock it as well. Chris H also rocks his shoot and flirts playfully with Johnny during it. Johnny reveals he has a boyfriend. Sorry, fellas! And we finish with Marvin, who struggles according to Johnny. He doesn’t listen to directions.

That’s a wrap!

At the house, Renee gets into a fight with the boys after Marvin says it would be cool if it were an all male competition. She says the fashion industry is a woman dominated one and that a woman will win it. Someone then asks why Tyra would include men if they didn’t have a chance to win. Chris says Renee thinks she’s all that because she did well in the challenge but she didn’t photograph well. There’s a lot of cursing and they decide to see who rules and who drools at panel. Renee slams the door as we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

Tyra compliments the models as we start panel. There are judges—Kelly, Rob and Bryanboy. There are prizes. Nina is up first. The judges love her photo and Kelly says she takes it a level she didn’t think was possible. Nina is all smiles…and I love her cat ears. Bryanboy says she dethroned Jourdan as queen of social media. Scores: 9, 10, 9. Don is next and his comments are so-so. Rob and Tyra show him how to change up his expressions. But social media likes him! Scores: 7, 8, 7. Renee is next and is applauded for being the challenge winner. Rob and Tyra love her picture but Kelly doesn’t. She doesn’t like the face. Social media likes it, though. Scores: 7, 9, 10. Jourdan follows and Tyra asks her why didn’t book anything. Jourdan mentions the “walk is too good” and “bland personality.” Tyra says “walk is too good” is usually people being polite and really meaning that Jourdan’s walk is nothing special. Kelly agrees. Tyra says that since Jourdan looks like a typical model, she needs to have a personality that stands out to be booked when in a room full of typical models. Rob and Kelly then proceed to praise Jourdan’s photo but Tyra doesn’t like it. Scores: 9, 6, 9.

Cory is next. Rob says he likes the picture. Kelly likes it but nitpicks about his bottom half while Tyra nitpicks about his neck. Scores: 8, 8, 9. Phil follows and it is not good. The judges try to figure out what is going on with the guy. Scores: 7, 5, 6. Chris H follows and the judges love it. Rob compares it to Twilight! Tyra curses! Scores: 10, 10, 9. Marvin is up last. He admits his tongue got in the way at Fashion Week, which Rob agrees with. Tyra says that Marvin looks young when he smiles so he has to not smile so much. She tells him to be mysterious. She then shows him his best picture, saying she hopes there’s some mystery and not “Whee! I’m in the grass!” And the comments…are not good. Scores: 8, 8, 6. Yeah, I know. Scoring is all whacked out. Tyra dismisses the contestants as we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

ELIMINATION! Best photo goes to…Chris H! He is joined by: Nina, Renee, Cory, Jourdan and Don. That leaves Phil and Marvin in the bottom two. They approach Tyra and throw their arms around each other. Phil: Third time in the bottom and for the same reasons. Beautiful in person with a great personality but not translating to photos. Marvin: Beautiful man with great bone structure in photos, beautiful boy in person. Can he book gigs? Who stays? Marvin! Tyra gives him his photo and sends him to join the others.

Tyra hugs Phil and says he still has a chance to come back. And that he’ll find out his fate…right now. Cue the shocked faces as the eliminated contestants return: Kanani, Mike, Jiana, Chlea, Jeremy and Alexandra. Phil takes his place with them and Tyra says they will find out who will join the other seven on a plane headed to…Bali! Everyone freaks out and some people start crying. So who is rejoining the competition? It’s…Alexandra! She drops to her knees as she sobs, saying she wanted this so much. She hugs Tyra as the others cry behind her.

But wait! There’s more! Tyra reveals that one guy will also return to the competition! And so Phil, Jeremy and Mike stand before her to learn who rejoins the competition. And it is…

To be revealed later.

I wonder why Bianca and Chris S were unable to participate in the Come Back series. Seems odd to me. But I’m not surprised it was Phil who went home. Three strikes and you’re out. Of course, he could still come back. Vote in my poll who you think will come back!

Next week: Behind the scenes footage!
Two weeks: Who re-enters the competition? Zendaya! House fight!
