Face Off: Mummies!

Last week on “Face Off:” The seven contestants were tasked with creating new lifeforms which might be found on Earth. They had to use luminescent paint on their creatures as well. All with the threat of double elimination hanging over their heads. Anthony managed to redeem himself but Meagan and Eric Z. were eliminated. Five contestants remain, who will be eliminated tonight? Find out!

Face Off!

(I apologize, I came in five minutes late so I start with…)

It’s Bruce Campbell! He gives the remaining five pointers about the Evil Dead movies. They will be making Egyptian god mummies. Because why not?

Everyone starts sketching. Kris incorporates his god’s ram head into his design. Anthony has Anubis…and I just came off a nostalgia marathon of Ronin Warriors episodes. Eric F. is an Evil Dead fan and chose Ra. House has Thoth and wants to turn his body into the tablet. And redeem himself after last week.

They report to the lab to pick their models. And they begin sculpting. House has three pieces to make while Kris works on his body. Wayne does so as well. He knows that they are all good and any one of them can go home. Eric F. wants to make sure everything is uniform and looks like 80s style zombie makeup. Anthony wants a wolf-man face.

Kris finishes and begins to make his molds. Eric F. checks in with House as they discuss the last challenge. He (Eric) is also homesick, missing his family. He also says he’s exhausted.

Coming Up: Wayne has problems.

Everyone continues to work as someone tells Kris how much time they have left. He wants to finish the mold in time but he doesn’t want to risk it. So he decides to wait until TIME!

Day 2! Everyone reports back to the warehouse to continue working. Anthony’s mold opens with no problems. Kris handles his while Eric F. continues his sculpting. House notes that it’s pretty quiet in the warehouse with just the final five there. And that he wants to do better than he did last week.

Michael Westmore is here! And reveals he was a history major! Michael likes House’s work and gives Anthony hints about how to do the skin. Michael reminds Wayne of the importance of time management. He likes what Eric is doing to create his texture. And he tells Kris to blend the eyes into the makeup.

They leave as Kris begins molding his face. Wayne tries to dry his mold as fast as possible.

COMMERCIALS!

Wayne is still drying his mold when we come back. Kris offers to help him which Wayne accepts. He wants to use foam latex, which needs to bake overnight. Anthony works on making his molds as the clock winds down. House notes everyone is doing the same thing at the same time. But it’s TIME!

At the house, everyone looks like they need a shower. They relax outside in the Californian evening. They have a very manly pounding of fists.

Day 3! Anthony works on his head while Wayne notes everyone is in the mold room. House notes he is behind as the models arrive for applications. But everyone is still working so I imagine the models are all playing “Words with Friends” with each other. Anthony has to adjust his head piece to fit his model. Eric papier-maches his model, it seems. Anthony begins painting. House doesn’t like his face sculpture but hopes for the best. Wayne has very little paint at TIME!

Coming Up: Judging!

Everyone gets to the studio and begin finishing their creations. House paints his mummy gold while Wayne struggles with his face piece. Anthony loves his headdress  as we go to …TIME!

I kinda like Kris’ yellow tie. McKenzie welcomes them and the judges: Glenn, Ve and Neville. She goes over the brief.

Wayne (Sobek): Creepy looking though I’m not sure about the paint job.
House (Thoth): Not sure about it…
Anthony (Anubis): I like the spider webs. And the head piece came out well.
Eric F (Ra): Holy. Crap. I think this is one of the best of the night. Way to go, Eric F!
Kris (Khnum): I think Kris and Eric F might have top spots tonight. Wow.

McKenzie invites the judges to take a closer look. The judges are impressed that Wayne even sculpted the back. Glenn doesn’t like House’s paint job. Nor do they like Anthony’s scheme either. He’s getting worried.

COMMERCIALS!

The judges move on to Eric F’s. They note little mobility in his face piece. They like Kris’ work.

Glenn says this was his favorite challenge and praises their work. Wayne is up first. Glenn likes his work. He liked the idea of the transition but thought there was another way to do it. Ve is proud that Wayne completed a character and a paint job. Neville’s only complaint is the lack of eyes. House is next with Thoth. Ve thinks he made the character too bulky for a mummified character. Glenn says the gold takes away from the embellishments. Neville loves his ideas but not the makeup.

Kris and his yellow tie are next. Neville says his color palette is flat and dead—and perfect. He thinks the character is camera ready. Glenn says he did an “exceptional job” and loves the face. He likes it emotes. Ve continues to heap praises on it. Anthony follows with Anubis. Glenn doesn’t like the face sculpture and the death mask. He needed to change some proportions. He does praise the face look. Ve though didn’t like the paint job. Neville says the chest sculpture is good but the paint work hides it. Eric F. is last. Ve praises him for nailing the Evil Dead look. Neville likes his decision but warns him of the open mouth. Glenn doesn’t like the color choices and says he only likes the sculpture when keeping with the Evil Dead theme.

Glenn praises Wayne’s sculpting abilities as does Neville. Ve wishes for better blending but she likes it. Glenn likes Kris’ subtlety. Ve loves it and Eric F’s work. Glenn points out that Eric F is very influenced by Evil Dead and it may be a drawback later. They weren’t thrilled with House or Anthony. Glenn really hated that Anubis headdress.

Everyone comes out, Kris’ yellow tie leading the way. The top looks were Kris and Wayne. The winner is…

COMMERCIALS!

So, the winner is…Kris. No duh. He and his yellow tie are extremely grateful. He and Wayne go backstage, Eric F. following. That leaves House and Anthony in the bottom. They step before the judges. House: Good ideas but overall appearance was not good. Anthony: Face sculpt and paint job were horrible. The person going home is House. Glenn says there were too many problems to overlook. McKenzie sends Anthony backstage. Glenn says House has brought some great characters to life and looks forward to seeing what he makes in the future.

House heads backstage and he knows he could’ve done better. The other guys bid House farewell. He rolls off into the sunset.
