Disney Vacation Thoughts: Addendum

This is a continuation of my post here because I remembered I forgot about this on my commute home Thursday evening.

Disney needs to update their hotel rooms. And that surprises me. Usually Disney is on the forefront of the service industry so it’s weird to find them behind on this front. What are they behind on?

Technology.

It stands in such a stark contrast with their parks. Resort guests are given Magic Bands which serve as everything they need—room key, park ticket, credit card, Fastpasses, etc. They also have the My Disney Experience app, which they encourage everyone to download. It can help with wait times, finding characters, reservations, Fastpasses and so much more. There are places to charge your phones, kiosks that dispense portable charges and free WiFi in the parks.

So it’s strange that the hotels aren’t more technology friendly. Yes, they have free WiFi (which is still a bit slow since there are a lot of people using it and I’m sure there aren’t that many signal boosters spread around the property). But where they lack is charging.

Let’s take our room in Riverside. Now, granted, there were three adults sharing one room. That’s probably one more than Disney usually intends. Still, our room only had four outlets: one by the table in the room, one between the nightstand and the far bed, another by that far bed and one by the sink. My aunt took over two outlets, my sister one and I took over another. Since I only brought one wall charger (my fault), one of them tended to also commandeer half my outlet.

But onto the one wall charger thing. The reason I only brought one? Because in my recent travels, it’s all I’ve needed. The hotels I’ve stayed at lately have had USB ports somewhere (usually in the desk lamp) and so I would just need multiple cords to charge multiple items. I’m surprised Disney hasn’t put these in to allow families to charge their devices. Because let’s face it—the average family has many devices for their vacation. We never truly unplug—but Disney isn’t really built for that.

So I think it’s time for Disney to do so in order to let their guests charge everything they’ve brought. Especially if we’re supposed to use that app to help us navigate their parks.

Also, a clock would be nice too. I’m sure there’s some philosophical and deep reason why the rooms don’t have clocks but even on vacation you need to know the time!

Thank you!
