OUAT: Farvel

Last time on “OUAT:” Storybrooke fell under the Shattered Sight curse. Gold got Hook to do his bidding but the pirate failed to bring Henry to him. The Evil Queen and Mary Margaret had an epic fight in the Sheriff’s office. Emma and Elsa try to get Ingrid to stop the curse while her past with Emma unfolds. Anna finds the key on the beach and Ingrid sacrifices herself in order to save Storybrooke. Everything is back to normal.

For now.

At the town line, Elsa takes down the snow wall that had been keeping everyone trapped in Storybrooke. Anna is eager to get back to Arendelle but Emma stops her. She knows it’s never easy to leave Storybrooke. And she can sense Ingrid’s power still at worked. It’s discovered that Ingrid had cast a spell that didn’t end with her death—people can leave Storybrooke. But they can’t come back. Emma promises to find them another way home. Anna’s very eager to get there but Elsa says they can take their time. Anna and Kristoff realize they never told Elsa about Hans taking over the kingdom. Elsa urges Emma to find that way back very soon.

(And once again, Storybrooke is trapped)
Meanwhile, Hook and Gold have another conversation. Gold is still going to cleave himself from the dagger. But first, they have to get rid of the Frozen characters. Hook knows why—Anna’s the only other person in Storybrooke who knows what Gold’s doing. Especially as it appears Belle’s under a sleeping spell and so isn’t hearing any of this despite the conversation happening feet away from her. Anyway, since Anna and Belle are friends, Gold can’t have them meeting up and Anna finally cluing his wife in.

(Seriously. She can't hear any of this?)
He goes to wake Belle up and tells her the spell is broken. Then he tells her that he wants to take her on a proper honeymoon—to New York City. He just has a few things to do before they go. That’s okay. An excited Belle does have to pack.

We flashback to when Belle was still a servant at Dark One Manor. She touches some of Rumplestilskin’s stuff and he catches her. Belle hadn’t expected him back so soon and he can tell—everything is dusty. She says she wanted to look at his stuff because she’s always wanted to travel. Belle asks where he’s been. Camelot, it turns out. And he brought back a memento—a gauntlet that reveals a person’s weakness. Belle wonders what he needs that for, given his powers. Rumplestilskin says it’s all about manipulation. A person’s weakness is usually another person—someone they love. Find out who it is and that person will do anything to keep the other safe.

Belle’s not too thrilled but Rumple doesn’t care. He magics her outside to continue hanging laundry. She mutters under breath and says she knows he’s listening to her. As she hangs up a sheet, she finds a Dalmatian sitting there. Naturally, Belle follows the lost little puppy and gets captured. I guess the Enchanted Forest doesn’t have Stranger Danger PSAs.

(Aww, cute wittle puppy of doom)
In her vault, Regina returns Marian’s heart now that she’s no longer a popsicle. Marian wakes up and hugs Robin. Regina looks absolutely devastated even though she knows it was the right thing to do. Marian thanks Regina, probably surprised how many times the former Evil Queen has saved her life.

(That look just screams "Help me!")
Regina sulks at Granny’s when she senses she’s not alone. She’s not in the mood for company but Marian has something to say. Pretty much she realizes that Robin’s moved on and for some reason, he’s fallen in love with Regina. (Or at least that’s what I read in Christie Laing’s performance—that she doesn’t understand why but she accepts it). So she’s let him go. If he chooses Marian, fine. If he chooses Regina, she’ll also be fine. Regina tries not to have too much hope.

(You can tell Marian already knows who Robin is going to choose)
Gold and Hook follow one of the broomsticks back to the Mysterious Mansion at the Edge of Town. Hook wonders why they are there. Gold says that it belongs to the Sorcerer. He brought Ingrid to this world, so he must’ve had a way to bring her back to Arendelle. The broomstick reveals a door right in the middle of a room. Looks like Anna’s not going to be able to spill her secrets after all.

Henry pays a visit to Gold’s and notices Belle’s packing. She tells him that she’s going to New York with Gold for their honeymoon. He tells her some of the places she has to go while there, calling her grandma the entire time. Belle tells him to stick to her name. She then asks Henry to help find another luggage for her. As he does, he ends up knocking a bunch of stuff down off the shelf. Belle recognizes the gauntlet from Camelot.

(Step-grandmother and step-grandson)
In the Enchanted Forest, Rumple goes looking for Belle. She’s not hanging his laundry and he’s confused. He finds a sand dollar. It contains a magical message. Belle apears and begs for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Rumple’s help. She’s being held against her will. If Rumple wants her back, he’ll bring the gauntlet to Demon’s Bluff. Rumple looks ticked off.

(He's her only hope)
Regina goes to meet Robin at the park. Marian and Roland play near by. Robin talks about how Roland is having a relationship with his mother and Regina believes he’s choosing Marian again. But then he talks about having to figure out how to parent together because he’s choosing Regina. She’s surprised and he pulls out the alternate page 23, the one where they are kissing in the pub. He’s really picking Regina.

Hold on to this high, Outlaw Queen shippers.

Within seconds, Roland is calling for his father’s help. Marian has collapsed. When they check her, they notice she’s freezing again. Regina surmises that some of the curse did reach Marian’s heart. She says the only way for Marian to survive is for her to leave Storybrooke and go into the world without magic. Robin’s going to have to go with her so she’s not alone. The catch though is that he can’t come back due to the Snow Queen’s curse.

And there’s the crash. I didn’t know this was possible until now.

Excuse me while I go find my tequila.

The Frozen gang sulks at Granny’s when Hook enters. He tells her there is a way back to Arendelle, praising Gold the entire time. Of course, this is because Gold is talking through Hook using his heart. Emma is suspicious. Especially as Hook has a death grip on her arm. But she agrees to take the Frozen cast to the Mysterious Mansion at the Edge of Town.

(This is a call for help)
Meanwhile, at the town line, Regina watches Robin say goodbye to his Merry Men. She sits in her car and is not thrilled to be joined by Gold. He’s come to say goodbye, saying he’s about to get everything he’s ever wanted. He hopes Regina will find her happy ending and reminds her that being good necessarily won’t give it to her. Don’t listen to him, Regina!

(It is touching that he still cares for her)
She gets out of the car and goes to say goodbye to Robin. He confirms that he has the supplies she’s given him and remembers the way to the diner up the road. Marian thanks Regina and steps over the town line with Roland. She is cured immediately and hugs her son. They look back back can’t see Robin, Regina or the Merry Men. She calls for Robin. He rushes forward, kissing Regina one last time. As tears fall, he tries to tell her he loves her but she tells him she knows. They hold hands as he steps over the line, letting go as Regina disappears behind the Snow Queen’s curse. Robin gathers his family and heads down the road.

Excuse me. I need to refill my tequila.

In the Enchanted Forest, Rumplestilskin approaches Demon’s Bluff with the gauntlet. He finds Belle held by one of Ursula’s tentacles. But Ursula isn’t alone. Maleficent appears from behind a rock. Welcome back, Maleficent! But wait! There’s one more Disney villainess to join this motley crew. Welcome Cruella de Vil! She trades barbs with Rumple before they make the exchange—Belle for the gauntlet. Belle wants to know why he did it and he says it’s because his house needs to be cleaned. She thinks it’s something else.

(Cruella looks amazing)
Emma and the others take the Frozen cast to the Mysterious Mansion at the Edge of Town. The door is there and Anna goes to open it. Emma stops her, saying she should—just in case. But the door seems kosher. Everyone says their goodbyes and Elsa crosses through the door with Kristoff. Anna stays behind to inquire about Mr. Gold. She wants to know who he was in the Enchanted Forest, assuming he was someone good. Everyone looks at each other before David tells her that he wasn’t so good and she was lucky to never have met Rumplestilskin. Anna’s face falls and she says there’s something they need to know.

(Uh oh)
Gold, meanwhile, is in the clock tower with Hook as he waits for the stars to line up with the hat. He’s ready to crush Hook’s heart but Emma and Mary Margaret storm the tower to stop him. But freezing them puts an end to that plan. He starts to squeeze Hook’s heart and the pirate doubles over in pain. But Gold finds himself unable to crush it. He wonders why.

It’s because Belle’s commanded him not to. She’s found the real dagger! Belle commands him to drop Hook’s heart. He does and the pirate grabs it. She then orders him to unfreeze everybody and then transport the two of them to the town line. Gold obeys.

(Busted)
At the town line, Belle confronts Gold about his lies. Starting with the gauntlet she thought he had traded for her. She dug a bit more and realized she had a fake dagger. And everything made sense. Gold would never give up power for her. He’d always try to get it. And so she needed to do something. Belle raises the dagger and orders a pleading Gold to leave Storybrooke. He says he’ll never be able to come back and she says that it’s the only way to keep the town safe from him. As he crosses the line, he admits he’s scared. But Belle won’t be swayed. Gold is forced out of Storybrooke.

(This was heartbreaking)
Do the Rumbelle fans need a moment? We Outlaw Queen fans will share our chocolate, booze and/or tissues if needed.

Back in the Enchanted Forest, Rumple pays a visit to Demon’s Bluff. He pretty much demands the gauntlet back because he didn’t make a deal—it was ransom. The Queens of Darkness explain they need the gauntlet so they can get their happy endings. The deck is stacked against villains, they say, and so they need something even the playing field. Rumple doesn’t care and he takes the gauntlet back.

(Behold the Queens of Darkness)
At Granny’s, Emma shoves Hook’s heart back in. They kiss in the hallway.

(Congrats, you two. But I'm going to go sulk with Regina)

Meanwhile, Regina sulks at the counter. Emma approaches and Regina says she doesn’t need a hope speech. Emma says she’s not here for that. She’s here to drink with Regina. Regina’s okay with that. Emma orders two shots and they down them. Emma does try to convince Regina that Robin could come back one day.

Henry comes in and tells his mothers that he has something to show them in the Mysterious Mansion at the Edge of Town. They follow him there and he leads them down a hall. He pulls on a light fixture and the wall turns to reveal the entrance to a secret room. Scratch that, a secret library filled with books that look like Henry’s storybook. And all are empty. The home belongs to the author. Operation Mongoose is getting warmer! Emma asks about Operation Mongoose and agrees to join in once she hears about it. She tells Regina that she made her a promise and will get her her happy ending.

(Operation Mongoose lives!)
Time for one last trip to Arendelle. Elsa stares at a painting of the three sisters, now restored in the palace. Anna enters, wearing her wedding dress and sporting a black eye. Apparently all it took was an off-screen fist fight to get Hans to give up the throne. She and Elsa share a few more cute sister moments, including the “What’s that amazing smell?” *Deep breath* “Chocolate!” conversation. Elsa asks Anna if she’s ready as the doors open. She walks her sister down the aisle.

All together now: Aww.

Six weeks later…

Gold walks down a New York City street, cane in hand. He enters a building—an aquarium, judging from all the fish tanks. A woman is in the dimly lit room, yelling at the sea life. It’s Ursula, here in the real world. Gold says he’s going to get them their happy ending but he needs her help. Ursula’s in. They just have to make two more stops.

(Reunited and it feels so ominous)
Something tells me those stops are for Maleficent and Cruella.

And thus ends Season 4A and the Frozen arc. Are you sad to see them go or happy? I’m a bit sad, though I’m excited for the Queens of Darkness in Season 4B. It’ll be interesting to see how Cruella plays a part in the Enchanted Forest.

Fear not, Outlaw Queen fans! It’s been confirmed that this is not the last we’ve seen of Robin Hood. What happens next better include him getting back to Regina!

So, I’ll see everyone after March 1st! I’ll be watching Galavant and I might recap the miniseries. So keep an eye out for them!

If you’re an Outlaw Queen fan who needs to get through the hiatus, I remind you that I have an Outlander-inspired OQ fic: All That Was Me. Hope it helps!

Have a happy New Year!
