Is It Too Horrible?

Last time on “FaceOff”: McKenzie took the remaining 13 contestants on a field trip to the aquarium. Sadly, Ms. Frizzle and the Magic School Bus was not involved. The contestants were paired up with Brea (as the previous week’s winner) allowed to chose her team. They had to turn a model into a fish that was waterproof. Beki butted heads with her partner Miranda but they were ultimately safe. Rayce wins for the week while Nix and his ringmaster mustache are sent home. Twelve contestants remain, who gets sent home tonight? Find out!

We open at the house. Brea asks others who should’ve gone home. Matt thinks it should’ve been Jerry. He calls him a virus who saps people’s creativity. Sue thinks he’s a control freak.

We come to the studio, which has been invaded by the Men in Black. There are four models. McKenzie greets them and talks about the fast pace of working on a set. They are doing a relay race to create makeup. The models disappear behind a screen. The makeup must be based on special lenses the models are wearing. Their guest judge is Emmy-winner Jennifer Aspinall, who has worked on SNL amongst other things. They show Mike Meyers in his Coffee Talk segment.

Team 1: Jerry, Miranda, Sue
Team 2: Brea, Heather, Tara
Team 3: Beki, Rayce, Ian
Team 4: RJ, Athena, Matt

The first team members start working. They are laying down the foundation. Time for the next person to deal with it. Heather is worried about the lack of prothestics on her model. Tara then comes in to try and save it. Jerry is impressed that his teammates did a good job as is Beki. Brea realizes her vision isn’t being realized. They keep shaping as their characters come to life.

Time’s up!

Jennifer and McKenzie go to look at the make up. Jennifer praises Team 1’s pain job. Jennifer thinks Team 2 was going in different directions. She praises Team 3 for working together. Meanwhile, Team 4 leaves her a little confused. Jennifer praises them for their work but the team that won is…Team 3! The winner of the challenge is Beki for her clear vision and for setting it up in way that Rayce and Ian knew how to follow it. McKenzie dismisses it. Beki is confident now that she has immunity.

Time for the Spotlight Challenge. She has a guest who is a hot music guest who has ranked on the R&B charts. Meaning I will not know who he is. It is Asher Roth. He is releasing a new album called “Is This Too Orange?” They are to create album covers for him. Once again, they are going to be working in pairs.

Team 1: Jerry and Tara
Team 2: Rayce and Beki
Team 3: Ian and Miranda
Team 4: Sue and Heather
Team 5: RJ and Athena
Team 6: Brea and Matt

She decides to bring in some friends—naked models. Sue freaks out as we head to…

COMMERCIALS.

Sue is still freaking out about the nude models. Athena is excited though for a nude body paint. She figures this will be her time to shine. There will be two models—one to blend into the background and one to stand out. The models robe back up.

Team 1 picks the brick wall. Team 2 chose the barn. Team 3 gets the park bench. Team 4 gets the elephant on a skate board. Team 5 gets Team 6 gets the sneakers.

The teams begin working. RJ lets Athena take lead. Ian and Miranda stare at their picture while Jerry and Tara immediately get an idea. Ian and Miranda are lost. They don’t know what to do while Team 6 figures out what to do with the sneakers. Rayce worries that the judges will not get their concept. Ian struggles with working with Miranda as we cut to…

COMMERCIALS!

We come back to Ian and Miranda still struggling. They finally agree on something and start to paint. Jerry and Tara are focused on the color, getting it right. McKenzie and Ve come to visit the artists, making Sue nervous. They kinda fly through these but this is a quicker challenge than usual. Ve and McKenzie talk off on the side. Ve likes Team 2’s concept. She is worried about Team 4’s concept as well as Team 6’s task.

Jerry starts to worry about Tara’s coloring. She defends it, saying it’s not finished yet. Ian worries about painting on a body. Athena notices that Brea’s model is getting lightheaded. He asks for juice and sits down. She asks him to stand up and he refuses. She asks if he’s okay and says he’s not. She goes to get water and he’s starting to go down.

Coming Up: Ambulance is called.

We come up to the model going down. He is administered oxygen as paramedics show up. They have to rub his painting off and that’s all Brea cares about. Matt wonders if he should continue. He does and everyone finishes. Time runs out. A photographer comes to take pictures. RJ worries about the shot not being lined up properly. Miranda whispers about Beki to Ian. The producers give Brea a new model and give her six more hours to do it.

Everyone else returns home. They feel bad for Brea but when Matt returns home, he tells them the model was just dehydrated and they seem relieved. Meanwhile, Brea keeps working.

The contestants come to the reveal stage. There are judges: Glenn, Ve, and Patrick. The guest judge is Asher. McKenzie reveals that judges were told of Brea’s model’s issues. We see Team 1: Tara realizes her paint wasn’t heavy enough. Team 2’s actually looks pretty good. Team 3 did a decent job if they played it a bit safe. Team 4 looks pretty cool as does Team 5’s. And then we get Team 6—the other model’s butt was too small to be a decent basketball.

The judges get copy of the photos. Asher says there are some amazing stuff there. RJ, Athena, Sue and Heather are all safe. They head back to the makeup room. Tara and Jerry are up first. Well, actually, up first are…

COMMERCIALS!

Tara is freaking it out. Glenn asks about their concept. Glenn likes the blending but doesn’t get the concept. And he’s not pleased with Tara’s paint job. Ve tells them to have a contrast with the black and white. Asher thinks they restricted themselves unnecessarily. Jerry apologizes/consoles Tara when they step back. Rayce explains their concept. Ve likes it and the girl’s paint job. Patrick likes the different techniques they used. He likes the photo. Asher likes the picture as well. Ian and Miranda are next. Asher asks about their concept. Glenn doesn’t like the picture. Patrick says they should’ve either made the background guy pop or blend in. Glenn says it isn’t even adequate. Matt and Brea is next. Patrick is impressed with their work. Asher praises Matt for her work on the shoes. Glenn loves the shoe integration as well. Ve wishes Brea had used a stencil for the lettering but agrees overall, everything is good. McKenzie dismisses the contestants so the judges can deliberate.

Asher praises Beki and Rayce’s picture. The judges still love Matt’s integration and Ve praises Brea for working as long as she had to. Asher thinks Tara and Jerry wasted an opportunity. Ve think Ian and Miranda blew it. Asher calls their work very forgettable.

The contestants are brought out. Asher says that the top teams are Rayce and Beki and Brea and Matt. The winning team is…

COMMERCIALS!

…Brea and Matt. The ultimate winner is Matt for taking on the shoes. Everyone applauds. Matt is so happy. Asher wants others to see their piece. Brea and Matt are dismissed as well as Beki and Rayce. That leaves the others behind to step forward. Glenn says that Jerry and Tara are there for poor technique. Ian and Miranda are there for a lack of passion and direction. The person going home to tonight is Miranda. I was worried it’d be Ian. Glenn says they felt she wasn’t prepared for this level of challenge. Ian hugs her and she leaves. McKenzie looks really bad for her.

Miranda goes to pack up and people hug her. She says she formed friendships and enjoyed her opportunities.

I was really worried for Ian there for a moment. But I knew Miranda was a goner when she mentioned it was her first time doing body paint. While I wasn’t too thrilled with Beki’s attitude last week, I knew Miranda wasn’t entirely blameless. This week just proved it. And Brea…I know it’s competition and she suffered a setback. But she came off completely callous toward her model. She was more worried about herself even when the man was lying on the floor with an oxygen mask! It just put me off. Oh well.

On another note, I need more sound bites.

Next up: Horror villains!
