I Be Like Woah!

This past cycle on ANTM: Tyra brought back our favorite Top Model contestants…and Alexandria from last cycle. Tyra’s subjected them to Kardashians, Mario Lopez, music videos, her crazy antics, and Tyra’s own book. There are three girls left: Allison, Angelea and Lisa. Who will win the dubious honor again? Find out!

Wanna be on top?

The final 3 celebrate their achievement with a group hug. Or Lisa and Angelea are trying to smother Allison to remove the competition. Whatever. Lisa says she’s risen above her troubles and hopes to win so she can sell her album and help other abused children. Angelea considers this redemption and that she made it out of her tough neighbor. Allison survives the group hug. She talks about losing her father and hopes to increase her exposure in the fashion world.

TYRA MAIL! “Efkola, Aneta, Omorfa.” Time for the Cover Girl commercial. Huh, we haven’t had a commercial yet this cycle. This could be interesting. Lisa thinks Angelea is too fragile to win. Allison watches Lisa’s motion editorial and praises it.

GREECE! The wannabes meet Mr. Jay at the Blue Palace’s restaurant. It’ll be their set for the commercial. Paige Cali, Communications Director for CoverGirl, is there. She says they’ll be shilling eye shadow. Niko Papadopolous comes back to shoot their beauty shots. Mr. Jay sends them to hair and makeup. He then comes to give them their scripts. Angelea thinks Lisa’s her biggest competition. We see Lisa in her CoverGirl shoot. Paige wants softer and Lisa delivers. She then moves to her commercial. You can tell Lisa is reading—her eyes aren’t connecting with the camera. But Mr. Jay focuses on her delivery—comparing her to a car salesman. No one noticed her eyes weren’t connected to the camera?

Allison is next up in front of the camera. Paige loves her eyes. Allison is nervous about her previous commercial expression and the sun in her eyes. Allison says she just has to work around it. She has trouble opening her eyes. They can’t relocate Allison inside or something? It’s a close up shot, does the background matter at all?

COMMERCIALS!

Allison swears she can do it and gets her shot with her eyes closed. After all, she is shilling eye shadow. Allison says she has to speak louder because she always sounds louder in her head than real-life. I understand. Allison impresses Mr. Jay with her energy and he tells her to show that to the judges.

Angelea is next in front of the camera. She says she’s real, which is what a CoverGirl is. She is next to film. Mr. Jay tells her to tone it down a bit.

TYRA MAIL! “Ciao Bella! Get ready for a beach day!” They wonder why it’s in Italian. Well, the Italians did steal from the Greeks…But it’s because they meet Valentina Serra for their Vogue Italia shoot. Dujan is their photographer. Angelea praises how good Allison looks. They’ve bleached her eyebrows and she looks pretty good. The girls do their shoot on the beach. They all know how important this shoot is and how close they are to the prize.

TYRA MAIL! “A true Goddess can rise above the competition.” They figure it’s the final runway. And that it’s the end.

All three will be in the final runway. They will be descending from above to the runway, indicative of their becoming goddesses. They will walk to their original songs. Like in the past, Shannon, Dominique and Laura will walk the runway as well. Michael Cinco is back to reveal their original dresses. Lisa loves her dress. I like it as well. Angelea also loves her dress and I must say, it looks like a goddess. Mr. Jay calls Allison’s dress very her and I want her dress.

Laura gives Allison a pep talk and is on Team Alli-Cat. Shannon is on Team Lisa. Dominique refuses to take a Team and feels bad for the judges. Oh Lord, someone needs to keep Ms. J out of the prop closet. Angelea is worried about the water aspect. This is annoying Lisa.

COMMERCIALS!

The judges enter the show area. They even have Mr. Jay in a toga. But no Brittani, Cycle 16 winner? A Greek model starts off the show. She goes for a bit of a swim, changes into her outfit and is lifted to the final runway. Everyone watches this backstage. Lisa is the first finalist out. Lisa does a corkscrew in the water. Her hair blocks her view and she ends up on the wall. She course corrects. Lisa runs out of the covering and Laura takes her place. Lisa runs and changes into her outfit and then gets harnessed. She flies through the air. When she lands, she has to fight the wind as her song plays. Her skirts blow about but she rocks out to her tune.

Angelea is next to go for her dip. She says she’s doing this for her family and her hometown. She doesn’t want to mess up. She tries to remain underwater and wants to win this. She takes a second breath and makes it to the end of the pool. She quickly changes and is put in the harness. She is next to hear her song and decides to work the runway.

Allison is our last finalist. Tyra is surprised how long she remains under but Allison emerges to get changed. She is worried about the wind and we almost see Ms. J’s money shot. She finds her stride on the runway as her song plays before they hit their final turn. The other All-Stars hug the finalists and Mr. Jay praises them. Now the girls have to face the final panel. Meanwhile, Angelea looks depressed, worrying Lisa and Allison.

The last time with these morons! I don’t care!

We come back to the panel and learn that Angelea revealed information that disqualified her from the competition. This was done after shooting had wrapped, so this is a special judging that happened later. They are going to re-evaluate Lisa and Allison to determine the winner. There are judges: Nigel Barker and Andre Leon Talley The guest judge is Mr. Jay! The prizes: A fashion story in Vogue Italia, cover and spread in Beauty in Vogue, a blog for Vogue Italia, correspondent for Extra, contract with Express, spokeswoman for ANTM’s new fragrance “Dream Come True” and a contract with CoverGirl. Phew!

Allison is first to be judged. Nigel loved her under water but didn’t like her walk. Tyra tells the models to treat the wind as a friend. Nigel calls Lisa a “mess” in the water but Andre praises how she handled her train in the wind. We get to see the commercials. Allison is up first. Nigel praises how she looks with her eyes closed. Mr. Jay points out that it works in the situation. Andre wished her delivery was a bit more. Lisa’s is next. I must say, Lisa’s almost looks like a real CoverGirl commercial. The judges love her video except Tyra. She wishes there was more Lisa in there. She calls it “safe.” Nigel thinks Allison’s shot is a little vacant which Tyra agrees. Mr. Jay loves everything else but the eyes. Lisa only has one eye but Nigel thinks it works. Everyone loves her picture.

The judges will now deliberate as we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

LA! They discuss Lisa. Andre calls her a ragdoll but that she got better as the weeks went on. Allison has weird fans according to Tyra. Mr. Jay calls her an inspiration. Nigel says that Allison could be someone’s muse. Nigel calls Lisa a “performer” and a “personality.” Andre thinks she might be too cocky. Tyra says Lisa is a survivor. Allison is beautiful and magical. Game fell in love with her. But she is thwarted by the light, which should be a model’s best friend.

They’ve reached a decision!

COMMERCIALS!

Allison and Lisa stand before Tyra for the final verdict. Allison says she’s really nervous and Lisa admits her knees are shaking. We will now see Part II of Modelland and the reveal of America’s Next Top Model. And it’s Lisa! She hugs Allison, who looks slightly awkward. Lisa gets a hug from Tyra. She promises not let any of the judges down. Allison says she’s happy for Lisa and she’s grateful for the support. Tyra calls her amazing and tells her that fans love her. Lisa takes a run up the runway. Tyra calls her a star. The judges tell her she’s proven it.

Tyra gives a voiceover to praise Lisa as we see their final photo together.

If you were to go back to December 2005, pop into my sophomore dorm, and told me that Lisa would eventually win America’s Next Top Model down the road—I would’ve been horrified. My roommate would’ve been thrilled. But now…I’m not too upset. I am curious though. I wonder if maybe Angelea was originally America’s Next Top Model. Tyra says that this is a special judging taking place back in LA. That they found out information about Angelea AFTER everything was filmed and that this was a decision by the producers and studio. I wonder what got her disqualified. Rumor on the internet says she blabbed about the outcome of the cycle. I wondered if maybe she had a campaign she kept secret.

Anyway, I’m slightly disappointed that Allison didn’t win. I know she’ll make it in the fashion world—she’ll be some photographer’s muse. Or she’ll work as an art director. But if Shannon’s desire not to pose in underwear is supported in the industry, I’m sure Allison will find an agent who will get her jobs that aren’t in direct sunlight. As for Lisa, I’m sure somewhere, Cousin Itt is proud.

So that was Cycle 17! See you all for the crazy hijinks of Cycle 18!

Quote of the Episode

“It’s pretty cool.”—Lisa’s final words.
