ANTM: Welcome to the Dollhouse

Last time on “ANTM:” The models had an acting challenge where Devin and Ashley failed to impress the CW executives. After a night trying to use ASL, the models felt they had a better understanding of Nyle. They then filmed a commercial on the beach. Lacey rose to the top again while Devin and Ashley fell into the bottom two. In the end, Ashley was eliminated. Nine models remain—who is eliminated tonight?

Find out!

Lacey goes into the Tyra Suite to get her TyTyTip. She warns her not to get too sleazy when getting too sexy. So she gives Lacey some tips as Lacey says she feels some jealous eyes on her now.
Mikey and Devin stare at a picture of Ashley. Mikey is heartbroken and Devin says DMA took a big hit. Now they’re just DM. Devin says he has to try and reign himself.

Meanwhile, Bello asks Courtney if she wants to go back to Mikey now that Ashley is gone. She starts laughing and she reveals that she has a crush on him. Don’t do it, Courtney! You’re better than him! She skips around the house in a dress she borrowed from Hadassah. Mikey says he only likes her as a friend and Devin says she would bring them down. They leave her alone.

Hadassah confides in Justin and Mame (shocker, I know) about Bello, saying that she feels he liked her better when she wasn’t doing well. And now that she’s doing better than him, she’s not sure where he stands with her. Bello meanwhile soaks in the hot tub and says he liked getting a 10 from Tyra. He focuses on that and says he’s going to win and he’s coming after everyone. As he walks while staring at himself in the mirror. He might be practicing his angles, but seriously, Narcissus?

Wanna be on top?

Mikey says he wants to start over and take things seriously. He kinda apologizes to Bello and Hadassah, saying that it may not be them but him. So he starts over with them. Bello says he can’t stay him before yelling “Just kidding.” I’m not too sure.

The models meet Ms. J at a school. He says they need to look fierce and smart today so they brought in a stylist. They then enter a science lab and a video plays from Tyra. She talks about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). All fields that need more women and they need to be paid more. (Women across the board need to be paid more for doing the same job as a man). The models will be making PSAs about STEM—but only vines. And they will be judged by the girls in the lab. Brittany Furlan comes in to help them how to make vines on their phones.

Group Respect: Hadassah, Mame, and Mikey
Group Power: Bello, Courtney and Devin
Group Money: Nyle, Lacey and Justin

Nyle says he’s glad to be with his group because he’s with the two people who attempt to communicate with him the most. Seems last week’s “sign and dine” didn’t change too much. Brittany shows up to give them some tips. She likes their idea of having Nyle and Justin counting money and Lacey coming in with her lab coat also grabbing the money.

For Team Respect, Brittany’s worried about them trying to fit too much in. Bello meanwhile is worried that Courtney and Devin is too weak. Bello says they are going to bully Courtney which reminds her of the bullying she experienced growing up. Brittany shows them how to use vine.

Everyone starts to filming. Justin says they are taking a risk making their vine silent but trusts Nyle and Lacey. Mame is glad they are working well together. Courtney struggles to remember the lines. Her self-confidence may be her downfall while Bello accidentally deletes the video.

Oops.

COMMERCIALS!

Team Power struggles with the deleted video. So they have to do it all over again in their allotted time. So Courtney can’t struggle. But she does.

Time to see the vines! The contestants leave the room as the girls watch the vines. They like Lacey in Team Money. They are confused about Team Power and Brittany agrees. They think Team Respect does make them feel like people should respect girls. I just don’t know how it deals with STEM though.

And the winners are…Team Respect. Bello blames Courtney’s performance and not their story. Team Power is at the bottom of the leaderboard but with 8’s. Feeling bad, Courtney decides to throw Devin a birthday party. Devin celebrates as ANTM change his age from 21 to 22. Nyle wants them to sign “Happy Birthday” and they do, but are more excited when he yells it as well. But he just doesn’t want to have to keep telling people. Devin takes Nyle to take selfies for a long time. Lacey says it’s rude because it’s not Devin’s phone and he had no clue what was going on.

Because they took his phone and they weren’t talking with him, Nyle left. He says he’s human and wants respect.

COMMERCIALS!

Courtney says she feels bad about Nyle. She says that it was supposed to be a party but they took his phone and excluded him. So they apologize.

The next day the models go to a set where Erik Asla (of course) is taking Tyra’s pictures. She looks like a doll…is this the promotional shots for Life-Size II? Tyra does say the shoot is inspired by the original movie with Lindsay Lohan. Hadassah is thrilled because she loves the movie and she loves dolls. Tyra tells them three things to focus on: eyes (smize), eyes must follow head, joints insolation (almost like a robot).

Nyle: Boom Boom Bon Voyage
Lacey: Tyra Taught Me Tooch
Justin: Booch n’ Baller
Mame: Werk the Hallway, Like a Runway
Bello: Ugly Pretty Punk
Courtney: Fierce Fashionista
Devin: H2T-eed Up
Hadassah: Flawsome Free Spirit
Mikey: Savage Smize

Courtney doesn’t know what a Fashionista is. Oh boy.

In hair and makeup, Mikey tells him he needs to step it up because he had a low challenge score. Nyle says he feels Devin isn’t taking the competition seriously because he is signed to so many agencies and that he isn’t learning, isn’t improving. Nyle wants to outshine him. Nyle, you’re already doing that.

Nyle is up first. And he’s shirtless. Thank you, Tyra. From me and Lacey. Yu Tsai had no complaints. Hadassah goes next. And I have to say, she does nail it. Owning so many dolls has paid off. Lacey does a explanation of “Barbie hands.” Meanwhile, Courtney is still struggling with her emotional roller coaster. She finally admits that she doesn’t know what a Fashionista is. Yu Tsai wants confidence. He keeps yelling and is surprised when she said she’s never seen Italian Vogue. Or Vogue from America. He’s panicking.

COMMERCIALS!

Yu Tsai decides to give her a pep talk. Courtney says she had to care for her disabled brother and didn’t want to spend on magazines full of clothing she couldn’t afford. Courtney gets something. Lacey goes next and nails it. Mame does as well. Mikey needs a little directing but seems to do okay. Yu Tsai has to show him how to square off his shoulder but then he gets it. Devin struggles with holding still and stiff. Yu Tsai says he hopes Devin is there next week. Bello says he’s better than Devin and Courtney at acting but Yu Tsai says he’s dead in the face. Even when Bello starts to growl, Yu Tsai looks less than impressed. Hadassah says Bello is too focused on the drama.

That’s a wrap!

SKULL MAIL! Bello asks Hadassah how it feels to be in the bottom two. She says good because she’s still there. Bello says he feels a disconnect with Hadassah. Meanwhile, Courtney says she wants to make friends. She and Devin worry about being in the bottom at panel.

COMMERCIALS!

PANEL! Tyra welcomes the models. There are prizes and there are judges—Ms. J Alexander and Kelly Cutrone. Tyra reveals that there will be a double elimination this week. Oh snap! Nyle is up first. Ms. J needs some water and Tyra says he did a great job. Justin is next and the judges admire Justin’s legs—he’s breaking out of his comfort zone. Kelly says he looks like a doll and a photoshoot. Tyra tells him to tan it up with makeup because it looks good. Courtney reveals Devin did her makeup and Tyra says he overdid it. Kelly says it should be easy to do fashion. Tyra is surprised that she never saw Vogue and asks how she learned her poses. Courtney says she taught herself. Kelly tells her she’s going to have to go the extra mile.

Mikey follows. Kelly’s okay except with his right hand. Tyra says she wanted more pictures to choose from. Bello is next. Tyra says she wanted subtle and he was too ugly pretty. Kelly says she wanted more from him. The judges love Hadassah’s shot except Tyra says she wanted more from her face. Kelly agrees. Lacey is after her. Kelly praises Lacey and Tyra calls her a “living doll.” Kelly calls it her favorite picture. Devin is next. Tyra says he was too connected and felt too human. Kelly says he doesn’t feel like a golfer. Mame is last. Kelly calls it babysitter not model. Tyra agrees. Ms. J talks about the locked knee and imitates being on the phone.

Tyra dismisses the models to add up their scores.

COMMERCIALS!

ELIMINATION! Best photo goes to…Lacey (9.5, 10, 10)! She’s joined by: Nyle (9, 10, 9.2), Justin (8.5, 9, 9.3), Mikey (7.9, 8.5, 9.3), Hadassah (7.5, 8.2, 8.5), and Mame (7.5, 7.6, 6.5). That leaves Bello, Devin and Courtney in the bottom 3. Courtney: Raw, natural talent but unsure of her strength. Devin: Can pose but can’t be natural. Bello: Androgynous and beautiful but fading. So who is eliminated first? Courtney. I think I guessed her elimination. She says she choked up but she says she’s glad to have made it this far, though she thought she could go farther.

So Devin and Bello. Who stays? Who goes? Devin stays while Bello goes. Huh. Tyra tells Devin that the judges believe he can be more but he needs to calm the crazy and keep the fire. Tyra tells Bello to keep his fire and display it to the world. Bello says he has more passion than everyone else and if he can come back, he’ll come after them. He refuses to hug them, saying he can’t. He storms out and Tyra says “That was different.”

America’s Next Top Model:

Well, that was interesting. I don’t know if I would’ve given the win to Team Respect because while it was an amazing and inspiring vine, as I noted, it never mentioned STEM. It could’ve just been encouraging girls to do well in school in general. Which is still a good message but given the subject…

Anyway, I’m surprised Bello went over Devin but he did seem full of himself. And getting eliminated didn’t humble him. It seemed to only make him worse. I hope he isn’t the one coming back next week.

Next week: We move to Friday! The eliminated models come back!
