FaceOff: Encounters of the Third Kind

Last week on FaceOff: The fourteen contestants moved into their house and loved it! And then they went to Universal Studios and loved it! McKenzie told them they would be creating over-the-top mobsters based on real life gangsters. They paired up and got to work. Cig and George clicked and their mobster was the crème of the crop. Barry and Sasha had some conflict with planning theirs and in the end, Barry was sent home. Thirteen contestants remain—who will go home tonight? Find out!

FaceOff!

LA! The contestants go near a giant blue pyramid someone calls a “spaceship.” McKenzie and Glenn welcome them to the Walter Pyramid. McKenzie talks about ancient wonders that people have wondered about for years. Glenn says while most people believe humans have built them, there is of course another theory:

McKenzie tells them they will be working solo to create their own aliens based on ancient cultures and sites. These sites are:

Giza Necropolis, Egypt
Easter Island, South Pacific
Stonehenge, England
Machu Picchu, Peru
Pyramid of the Sun, Mexico
Peruvudaiyar Kovil, India
Angkor Wat, Cambodia

McKenzie tells them to choose a location and then stay there to work on their designs. Once they are done, they can head to the lab.

Damien chooses Giza and thinks a dying alien passed on knowledge to the Egyptian. Cig uses Cambodian and Hindu tradition to help him. Stella also relies on Lord Shiva from Hindu, creating Lord Shiva’s mate who gets jealous. Doc goes with Easter Island and makes a fish like alien. George goes for Machu Picchu and telepathic aliens. Keaghlan goes with Giza as well and opts to use a feline aesthetic. She is worried about doing something so big by herself.

Time to go to the lab! Everyone grabs their model and begins sculpting. Drew chooses to use the Pyramid of the Sun as he’s been there! He makes a snakelike alien. Sasha decides to use Peruvudaiyar and works with her model’s face. Vince also went with Easter Island and believes the aliens look like the statues. Nice. Rachael goes with Stonehenge and goes aquatic but worries it might look dinosaur. Gwen says her favorite alien is Predator and uses it to as a basis for her Stonehenge aliens.

McKenzie and Michael come to check in. They stop by Dina first. She picked Pyramid of the Sun. She uses a mind controlling alien. Jason picked Machu Picchu as well and decides to incorporate the god’s appearance into his alien. Michael doesn’t feel Doc’s Easter Island fishlike aliens.

Coming Up: Bad advice? Sasha is lost?

Michael gives Doc some advice for his alien. And Doc kinda deflates. He doesn’t want to be too literal. Michael moves on to Stella, who says she’s worried about her model not being able to move her neck. Michael gives her some advice about that. Michael likes Keaghlan’s profile but warns her to focus on the paint job. He breezes through the others before leaving with his daughter.

Sasha looks around and looks so lost. She’s worried her cowl is too small but hopes it is just nerves. Damien meanwhile moves on to molding as does Rachael. Doc is still worried about Michael’s advice and talks with George but he doesn’t really help. Doc is still lost and feels he’s wasting time. Gwen meanwhile is worried she isn’t seeing the character in her sculpt. She’s worried because she’s been in the bottom before.

TIME!

Day 2! Doc figures out what to do with his sculpt. He works away, as does everyone else. Stella goes digging for jewelry to use as guidelines while Keaghlan realizes she has a crazy big mold. Gwen feels better after a good night’s rest. She combines human and alien appearances.

Sasha doesn’t know how to make molds and is just standing there staring as we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

Sasha is still lost. Just ask for help! Everyone on this show has always been helpful. Instead, Sasha just copies everything Dina does. Well, it’s better than nothing.

Damien’s mask is ready as George talks about how he believes aliens shouldn’t look like humans. So he creates squid hands. Sasha can’t get her mold open but eventually manages. People are running around while Vince goes for a walk around the lab. He says he’s ready for application. And he drinks a lot of water it seems. While Cig works on his four arms as TIME is called.

Day 3! Everyone works on application. Stella loves how her foam pieces came out and is confident as the models arrive. Gwen, meanwhile, isn’t having a good day. Her foam piece is falling apart. Doc worries that his cowl is too big but he knows he can fix that. Drew goes with a yellow and green theme as Keaghlan begins her paint job. Damien worries about his paint job. Time is ticking away. Gwen has to sacrifice her paint job due to her chest piece. Paint flies, people run and TIME!

Everyone heads out of the lab as we head to COMMERCIALS!

Coming Up: Gwen’s worried! Judges!

Drew’s airbrush gives out on him, forcing him to hand paint. Doc’s still not sure how his alien is going to look. Gwen is still worried. Sasha thinks her work looks alien and Indian. The music speeds up as we approach…TIME!

McKenzie welcomes the contestants to the Reveal Stage. There are judges: Glenn, Ve (she’s back!), Neville, and Lois. McKenzie brings out the aliens!

My favorites: Drew, Vince, Keaghlan, Stella, Rachael, Dina, Damien, and Sasha.

The judges take a closer look. Ve notes there’s more paint on Gwen’s body than face. The judges are iffy about Drew’s paint job and he’s worried it might send him home as we head to…

COMMERCIALS!

Glenn likes the Egyptian elements of Keaghlan’s design. The judges love Stella’s work but don’t feel Doc’s. Nor Damien’s. Lois likes the jewelry while Ve likes the shape of Sasha’s.

Sasha, Doc, Stella, Gwen, Damien, and Keaghlan are either the best or the worst. Everyone is safe and they head backstage. Sasha goes before the judges first. Glenn praises her work and the recognizable Indian influences. Neville praises her proportion as Lois praises the jewelry. Doc follows. Ve calls his makeup “unsuccessful” and the he only looks sad. Neville asks why he chose to cover the ears and Doc says it was to be more amphibian.

Stella is next. Neville says she does things with form that shouldn’t work but they do. He says it is successful. Lois like the collar and the henna. Glenn also praises her. Gwen steps forward. Lois says he looks pagan or alien. Gwen does admit she lost time maintaining the chest. Glenn says it doesn’t show anything alien. Lois thinks better coloring could’ve helped. Damien is next. Glenn doesn’t like the shapes on his face. Ve asks if he started with the gold or blue. Damien says gold which she says was a mistake. Gold should’ve been a highlight. Keaghlan goes last. Ve says the makeup is prettier up close and the subtle access. Neville says it is a strong silhouette and praises the headpiece.

McKenzie sends them backstage so the judges can deliberate. Neville likes how she used the model’s appearance to drive the makeup. They praise Stella’s work again as well as Keaghlan’s. McKenzie reminds them about their special immunity as they head into the worst looks. Lois says if she encountered Doc’s alien, she’d want to put it out of his misery. The same criticisms as before were repeated for Damien’s and Gwen’s. They have made their decisions.

Anyway, the winner of tonight’s challenge will be revealed after…

COMMERCIALS!

So who won? Stella! She’s thisclose to crying. And will probably do so backstage. She is sent to find a tissue box with Keaghlan and Sasha. Which means that leaves Gwen, Doc and Damien in the bottom three. They stand before the judges to learn their fate. So who is eliminated? Gwen. I felt it starting with Last Looks. Sorry, Gwen. We’ll miss you. Doc and Damien are sent backstage after one last hug. Glenn tells Gwen she’s talented and can’t wait to see what she’s going to do.

Gwen thanks them and says going home is heartbreaking. She gets a group hug as she confesses that this is just the beginning. Cheer up, Gwen! You lasted three episodes and gave me my first “Quote of the Episode” in forever.

Good luck.

Oh, aliens. But I’m glad more of the contestants aren’t going for gruesome and grotesque. Beauty can be just as appealing. And just as dangerous.
