Going to New Heights…And Familiar Lows

Last week on ANTM: The final six traveled to Macau! They met with a Chinese astrologer and had their fortunes read. The wannabes then had to adjust their outfits to match their elements. Laura won the challenge and had to take Eboni, who she admitted earlier to hating, along for a spa day. The girls then posed in Barney Cheng’s dresses, accessorized by silkworms. Laura rose to the top while Catherine and Alisha found themselves in the bottom two. Sadly, Catherine was sent home. Five girls remain; who goes home tonight?

Wanna be on top?

We come back to Macau where Laura goes to see her Best Photo. Sophie hugs her and Laura knows she is genuinely happy for her. Only Laura had a gift bag. Alisha thinks everyone is getting catty and admits she is in that group. We needed to know that Laura said she disliked Eboni in Week 9, which was last week? Anyway, Eboni blathers on about the usual “I’m here to win” speech as we near the finale.

CREDITS!

Alisha says that being in the bottom two doesn’t scare her. She says she was second place in Britain’s Next Top Model and never was once in the Bottom 2. She thinks that Sophie should’ve been in the bottom 2, Laura should be a sex phone operator, Annaliese is a presenter and because she’s friends with Eboni, says nothing. But she thinks she’s the best while Annaliese is like “I’m doing pretty good.”

TYRA MAIL! “The world is your stage…knock ‘em dead!” Sophie suggests acting, Annaliese hopes to slug someone.

The girls go to Hong Kong and Laura talks about how buildings are phallic. While, the vulva isn’t a good design for a building. Just the truth. Anyway, Ms. J introduces them to actor Nicholas Tse. He welcomes them before stunt guys come out and fight him. Laura is in love. Oh, and Nicholas sings. He compares acting and modeling before explaining the challenge. The prize is to be in Nicholas’ music video. Ms. J gives them lines and a fight move to learn. Eboni says she’s a yellow belt. Laura gets to be paired with Nicholas while the others get paired with stunt guys. Annaliese hopes her gymnastic training helps while Alisha thinks she picked up some skills from her brother’s kung fu class. Sophie looks like she’s in a 1920s boxing match. Laura and Nicholas work together. Annaliese isn’t worried about her fighting skills.

The girls practice their lines. At night, Nicholas tells them to keep moving. They get a practice take and a real one. Eboni goes first. She messes up a line a bit but overall does well. Alisha follows. And she does well. Even Eboni is impressed. Annaliese is next and wants to win it. She also does well, probably because of her presenting. Laura decides to embody Angelina Jolie and her “sexy hair.” I think you mean Angelina’s stunt double’s wig. You know, to hide the fact it’s not Angelina. Sophie is last. Alisha compares her to a fairy.

Nicholas applauds them all. Ms. J lets him give some critique. He liked Eboni’s jacket removal, Alisha’s wink, Annaliese’s confidence, Laura’s hair, and Sophie’s interaction. The winner is…Laura. She runs over and hugs Nicholas. The other girls glare. And in all honesty, I thought it was either Annaliese or Alisha.

COMMERCIALS!

Back at the hotel, Laura relives her challenge win. Alisha wonders why she didn’t win. Sophie says they were having eye sex and says that when Laura comes back, she’ll have sex with him. Alisha thinks that the fact that they had a relationship (the practice) may have helped. From there, Eboni says Laura is sleeping her way to the top. Laura flips out. Eboni says she was continuing the joking and Sophie admits she opened the door but stopped. Alisha in confessional is like “You are highly sexual. You’ve admitted to wanting to sleep with him. What else are we to think?”

TYRA MAIL! “Only the early risers make it to the top.”

Hair and makeup comes in to wakeup the girls. Everyone goes into hair and makeup. Laura says that when one girl starts bitching, the others do more.

The Macau Model Mobile brings them to a tall tower where Mr. Jay meets them. He admits he knows some of the them are afraid of heights after the visit to the CN Tower. But they are doing a shot at the Macau Tower, home to a bungee jump. Mr. Jay says they will be in harnesses outside with Mr. Nigel Barker. Sophie is scared—it’s rainy and windy and HIGH.

COMMERCIALS!

Nigel wants to take Sophie first but she refuses due to a breakdown. Laura goes first instead. And Nigel gave her a death glare. After redoing makeup and calming down, Sophie agrees to go first. Someone leads her out, holding onto it. Mr. Jay wants her to let go of the harness but she says she can’t. I understand. I’ve clutched onto my balcony railing, low to the ground undoing Christmas decorations due to my fear of heights. I can’t even go into my own attic. Nigel hugs Sophie at the end and Mr. Jay sends her inside for warmth.

Annaliese goes next and rocks it. Laura is bouncing around about the shoot. Mr. Jay says she is fabulous. Eboni follows her and says she’s focused on the competition. Nigel tells her to smize. Think of Edwin from last week—a champion silkworm smizer. Laura says she’d rather have a Brit win than see Eboni crowned “America’s Next Top Model.” Alisha calms down for her shoot. Mr. Jay tells her to put her chin down.

That’s a wrap!

At the hotel, the girls eat and are tired. Eboni says she’s nervous for panel. Annaliese notes that of the remaining girls, she’s the only one who has never gotten best photo. Sophie doesn’t want to go home and Laura thinks everyone shouldn’t be complained. I’m sorry, Laura needs to be socked.

COMMERCIALS!

The girls arrive for panel. There are judges Nigel and Kelly. Our guest judge is Nicholas Tse. There are prizes. Annaliese is first. She says it was fun. Nigel praises her for using her harness. Kelly doesn’t have any criticism. Nicholas praises her focus. Tyra tells her to relax the nose but otherwise it’s a great shot. Alisha is next and Nigel thinks she could’ve done well. Tyra says it looks like Alisha was on her way to church in a windstorm. She says more of the neck would’ve been more high fashion. Kelly says she’s concerned. Sophie admits she was scared. Nigel says she was freaked out but then calmed down to deliver great shots. Nicholas likes the shot while Kelly doesn’t like it. Tyra says she would go somewhere else in her mind.

Eboni is next. Nigel says she could’ve rocked the shoot but the body and face didn’t match. Kelly doesn’t like the pose. Nicholas says her pose is gutsy. Tyra likes the pose but wanted more tension. She tells Eboni to learn her angles. Laura is last. Kelly loves her shot. Nicholas doesn’t like the legs but loves the face. Tyra calls her picture “beautiful” and that Laura knows her angles.

COMMERCIALS!

The judges deliberate. Tyra pulls out a Southern drawl. Nicholas says she can see Annaliese as an actress. Kelly doesn’t think she’s a model and Nigel reminds her of Mercedes, who is still modeling. Nigel isn’t too thrilled with Alisha. Kelly says she’s not photogenic. Kelly doesn’t like Sophie’s picture while Nicholas likes her energy. Nigel and Kelly are really locking horns this week. Nigel says that of the five, they were either excited or frightened—except Eboni, who was nothing. Nigel thinks Laura only succeeded because she wasn’t terrified like the other girls.

COMMERCIALS!

ELIMINATION! Best photo goes to…Laura. She is joined by Sophie and Annaliese. That means Eboni and Alisha are in the bottom two. Both have high potential. They walk into a room and excite the judges. But their shots fail to deliver. So who stays? Alisha. But she shakes her head and says she can’t stay. She says she can’t be selfish. She needs to walk away to feel like Alisha again. She says she’s not being ungrateful, probably so there is no “Tiffany Cycle 4” freakout. Tyra says she can walk away…but she’s not saving Eboni. Eboni is leaving.

Tyra tells Eboni to learn her angles and to practice it. Alisha is told that she has it, she just needs to get past her doubts. Alisha confesses that it’s too much and she’s not strong enough to finish. Eboni and Alisha leave. The top 3 stare before leaving.

*Contestants walked away from competition

That was a surprise. Is this a Top Model first? Has there ever been two contestants who walk away in the same cycle? I can understand why Eboni was still eliminated; remember when Ondrei left but it was determined she didn’t have the worst photo? So a wannabe was still eliminated? Anyway, I’m sorry to see Alisha go. She was a decent model and had a good chance. Eboni has been touch-and-go. And I enjoyed a stroll down ANTM memory lane with Nigel mentioning Cycle 2 runner-up Mercedes.

Now about Laura. She’s a very good model, there’s no doubting that. And she’s apparently had a difficult childhood (I’ve learned to take sob stories on Top Model with a grain of salt). But she has this “holier-than-thou” attitude. I understand that she lost a friend before joining the competition. And I know what a sudden death can do to one’s outlook on life. But at the same time, she acts like she’s better and more mature than everyone else when she’s not too much higher than their level. Complaining about people complaining is not much better.

I don’t know. She just annoys me.

Next week: Go sees! Perfume shots!

Quote of the Episode
“Me and my pigtails are going to the top!”—Eboni
