Villains Are Cool

Last time on Face Off: McKenzie brought her dad, Michael, out to tell the contestants about their latest challenge: Aliens! While they worked in teams, Frank pissed off Anthony. A little romance brewed between Megan and Conor. In the end, Conor won (again) and Frank was—FINALLY!—sent home. Who will get le boot tonight? Find out!

We start at the loft with Gage, Marcel and Sam talk outside. Gage explains that Frank’s elimination split the house to two sides: Tom and Jo and Conor and Megan. Tom and Jo think that Megan should’ve been eliminated over Frank and Tate agrees. They plan to use Megan to distract Conor.

The group troops through the Universal Lot to the Bates Motel, complete with Mother Bates. McKenzie welcomes them. This week, they are creating their own villains! She highlights a few: Norman Bates, Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, and Jason Vorhees. To name a few. And there is a guest judge, producer and director Sean Cunningham. AKA the mastermind behind Friday the 13th. He says a great movie villain is rooted in unspoken fear, the boogie man if you were, and an unforgettable weapon. Jo’s uncertain about making a villain and decides to use Megan. Hello, House Bitch. The reality show rules never fail. Anyway, the contestants will have to create their own villain movie poster to go with their villain.
The contestants rush to the studios to find their pre-assigned models. They start sketching and sculpting. Tate says this challenge will show everyone’s weakness. Marcel and Gage sketch near each other and joke while everyone else continues on. Jo decides to “go big or go home.” They speed up the film on Gage and Marcel sketching while Anthony decides to go for some Halloween designs he made years ago while Conor and Megan flirt.

Sam goes for a cracked porcelain doll while Jo goes for a nun deformed in a surgery. Tate focuses on his sculpting the genetic anomaly—he can control people with his brain. Tom has created a villain who never grew up—Peter Pan of the Dark Side I guess. Jo asks Tom and Gage for help and says she will use silicon. Megan laughs a bit while Conor says everyone is jumping on his bandwagon after the high praise he received. Jo is worried as we go to…

Commercials.

Tate talks about the poster and tagline as the production designer comes in. Majken Larsson will be working with them. As she learns everyone’s movie title and tagline, everyone rushes about. Tate thinks Sam could be the ensemble dark horse while Megan needs to use Conor’s wrinkles for inspiration for her creation.

Tate: HIM “Your mind…His Playground.”

Gage: Final Skate “The Class of 78 is Going to Pieces”

Marcel: Cautionary Point “Heed the Warning.”

Anthony: London Twilight “The Doctor is Out…Of His Mind”

Jo: Confession “Confession Won’t Always Save You”

Sam: Baby Doll “Daddy’s Little Secret Has Come Back to Play”

Conor: Voodoo Dawn “Death is Just the Beginning”

Tom: Teddy Told Me To “It’s All Fun and Games Until Someone Dies”

Megan: Chester’s Photography “A Picture Says a Thousand Words, His Victims Say None”

Anthony starts to doubt his work and when Marcel asks what his story is about, Anthony curses him out. He storms out as we go to…

Commercials.

Day 2! Gage says it’s a lot to do within such a short amount of time. And here comes Glenn and McKenzie. They surprise Megan, who explains about her work. Glenn seems to like Tom’s Yo-Yo weapon. After touring the studio, they walk off to the side to discuss them. Glenn says he’s worried about the color choices of some of them and says that they need to learn that silicone isn’t always the best choice. They leave and everyone keeps working. Everyone starts the molding process and Anthony prays that his are good. Marcel explains that he and Gage forgot to release the mold, something to prevent the mold from sticking to the agent they are using. Anthony helps Jo open her mold. He calls it beautiful and Jo’s excited.

Marcel asks for Conor’s help and his reaction is “What?” when he hears Marcel didn’t release it. So now Gage needs his help and this time Conor just curses. Tate takes over from Conor and tells Gage to chip it out. Gage believes he lost everything.

Coming Up: The judges!

As the sun sets, Jo and Marcel try to help Gage. Sam explains that the sculpt part is the important part and it needs to be preserved. Megan tries to help, but ends up tearing it a bit. Marcel and Gage get it off but he still has to peel it out.

Day 3! The models arrive for application. Gage explains that Megan’s tear was a clean one, so he can easily fix it. Jo meanwhile is worried about her edges, where the skin meets the prosthetic, as is Sam. Conor is worried as he has a lot of work ahead of him. Anthony tells his model to think Clockwork Orange and Jekyll and Hyde. He worries that he’s just created something done over and over. He feels he’s done. The clock runs down to zero and everyone packs up.

Is it just me, or does everyone wear the same thing to Last Looks? Anyway, everyone tries to finish with their final touch ups as it gets closer and closer to Last Looks.

And here we go! The contestants enter as Mackenzie welcomes them. She introduces the judges: Glenn, Ve, Patrick and the guest judge Sean Cunningham. Tate is up first. It looks like Gollum meets Tiny Tim with a giant head! Jo is next with her deformed nun. That’s scary. Anthony follows with Mr. Hyde. Conor’s follows and is scary. Sam follows as her model unmasks herself. Megan is next and it looks like something out of a local haunted house around Halloween. Marcel is next and looks retro-scary. Gage’s is pretty scary and came out pretty well. Tom’s is last and looks more like the wolfman than a Teddy Bear freak.

The judges get to take a closer look as the contestants get to feel their hearts try to escape their chest. Or curse a blue streak.

Frank explains that he was shooting for middle ground and the judges move on. Megan’s model can’t open his mouth.

McKenzie reveals that Conor, Sam and Jo were safe and can go back stage. The other six are the best or the worst of the week. Gage is first with his lighthouse attendant. Ve likes it and compares it to the old 50’s horror model. Patrick  says it was powerful while Sean loves the place and weapon. He calls it a “heck of a horror film.” Anthony is next with Mr. Hyde. Sorry, Dr. Edward Psychobabble. Really? Really? The writer in me shakes her head sadly. He says he’s a fan of the mental horror not physical horror. The judges aren’t impressed. They call it pretty much also-run and Glenn actually uses the word “ineptitude.”

Megan comes up as Sean didn’t like the mouth. Glenn tells her to never design anything for a single shot. Tate is next with Tiny Gollum. Patrick likes the design. He says the face is very alive. Ve would’ve liked more highlighting on the head but everything else is wonderful. Glenn loves it except the eyes. Marcel is next. He says he’s happy with his work but Glenn isn’t. Sean feels more grossed out than scared. Ve thinks foam would’ve been better than silicone. Patrick thinks the weapon could’ve been more attached to skating. Ve thinks Tom’s had a deep rooted issue with teddy bears. Ve says she’s a fan and Patrick tells him it is genius. Glenn loves the combination of materials and tells him to go to therapy.

Top looks: Tate, Gage, and Tom. The winner is Tom! Yay! He gets to consult with the judges over who gets to be eliminated. The others leave as Tom stays. Ve asks him who should go home and he says it should be Megan. He calls her the weakest artist in the group and she’s slip through the cracks. McKenzie dismisses him. The judges discuss the bottom three. They didn’t like Megan’s decisions. Ve just didn’t get Marcel’s idea. They thought Anthony’s decision to play it safe wasn’t great.

Coming Up: Elimination!

Anthony, Megan and Marcel stand before the judges. Glenn tells Marcel they were unhappy with the overall concept. They didn’t like Megan’s mouth. Nor how Anthony played it safe. The person going home is…Marcel. Ooh, shock. I thought it would be Anthony. Megan and Anthony say good-bye to Marcel. Everyone is surprised in the backroom. Jo hugs him and tells him he doesn’t deserve to go. They think he’ll be back.

That was a shock. The way the interviews were going, I thought it would be either Anthony or Megan. But then the fact that Marcel has always just drifted on the edges the past few weeks and then gets center stage should’ve been a clue, though. I still like Megan and Conor. And Jo is definitely the house bitch.

Next week: Gender-swap!

Quote of the Episode:

“You want to know what it is? It’s a big, big epic story of none of your *bleep* business.”—Anthony to Marcel.
