Wanna be on top?
The girls come home to see Hannah’s picture displayed in the house. But they are more intrigued by the rope that says “Pull me” in their living room. So, they pull it after running to en screaming mass. And a bunch of words used to describe haircuts unravels. The girls can count, they know they’re up to makeover week and are trying to figure out who will get what. Sara says she’s worried she’s getting the manly spiked brown hair cut. But she actually wants a weave or extension. Monique doesn’t want her hair cut, Jaclyn doesn’t want blonde (hey!), and Brittani REALLY wants red hair.
Dayla talks about her near elimination. She gets a sympathetic ear from Molly, who was in the bottom three. They decide to look forward to makeovers and that someone else will be at the bottom. The Model Mobile takes the wannabes to Prive Salon in Hollywood. The Jays meet the girls and count, realizing they are one less than they should be. They then introduce the salon’s owner, Laurent D. They then introduce Troy Jensen, who will handle their after makeover photo shoot. He was a makeup artist who turned photographer. And guess who the first celebrity he shot was? Seriously, if you need more than three seconds to guess you obviously haven’t been watching this show.
Time for the drama!
Brittani gets a hair cut and bangs. She’s just excited to be out of the trailer park and seems to be okay with her makeover. The show calls it “Short Dutch boy.” I thought that was a bob? Anyway, Brittani breezes through her photo shoot. Jaclyn is surprised when they take curling irons to her already curly hair and guesses she’s not getting much of a makeover. Ms. J tells her that when she leaves the chair, there’s a razor back there. He/She/It asks Jaclyn how she feels about that. He then yells psyche and lets Jaclyn and her curly hair go back to her photo shoot. Monique gets extensions and is happy they aren’t cutting her hair. She says she got her way, like she always does. Oh dear Lord, that was a direct challenge to Tyra! Hide, Monique, hide! She and Ms. J talk about how hard it is for her to be sexy—very tongue in cheek.
Though Sara was still hoping for a weave, she knows she’s getting the short brown spikes. Ms. J makes sure she is okay with her makeover and Sara says she understands it goes with her features. While Alexandria gets a root touchup and extensions, she is certain something has gone wrong. Brittani is wondering what’s up with Alexandria and it looks like she’ll be the one with a makeover meltdown. Make it good and maybe I’ll forgive you for having my name and being the house bitch. Maybe. The salon attendant calms her down, but she sits there looking like she’s getting a shot or something. In the end, the meltdown was a dud.
Dominique is excited to go red and ends up hating it. And truth? It’s bad. Mr. Jay tells her to stop controlling everything—hey, why don’t you go give that speech to Alexandria? She decides that this is her way to stand out and I decide it still looks bad. Molly is going Rapunzel, it seems. And Ms. J reveals they brought in a weave specialist to hand her makeover. Molly is worried she’s going to be the one with the horrible, crazy makeover. I think Dominique beat you to it, Mols. But even Laurent D. is horrified over it and Ms. J shudders when she sees it. Mikaela gets hair extensions and the captioning says “Think Pocahontas.” No really. Kasia loves her makeover, big crimped hair. Dayla gets a long hair weave.
In the Model Mobile, the other girls try to get Molly to join in their reindeer games but she decides to separate herself. She’s still pissed over her hair. Alexandria says she should’ve stood up and said something like she did. Molly is just pissed. If you saw her expression in the confessional, it said it all.
TYRA MAIL! “Tomorrow you will learn all about photosynthesis.” Oh Lord, Tyra, you are going to stick them in a science class? While the girls try to figure it out, Mikaela just gives up and Sara’s stressed about her short hair. But she gets a point for mentioning Smeagol.
Team 1: Kasia and Molly. And Mr. Jay describes it as awkward. He does believe that Molly has overcome her makeover meltdown and dominated the photos.
Team 2: Monique and Alexandria. Mr. Jay tells her she looks awkward and Alexandria tells her to think doe-eyed. Alexandria believes she dominated the photo shoot. And that she got a good shot. (She hopes).
Team 3: Mikaela and Sara. These two get compared to robots and Mr. Jay says they don’t know what to do with each other. So, they take them on a little walk. They look drunk.
Team 4: Brittani and Hannah. Brittani upsets herself while trying to make herself laugh. But Hannah and Brittani can work with each other and Jay likes their poses together.
Team 5: Dayla, Dominique and Jaclyn. Lori declares that Dominique is adorable. Mr. Jay watches the three-person shoot and realizes that Dayla and Jaclyn are outshining Dominique. Mr. Jay asks what she’s thinking and she says nothing. He says she needs something to be inspired by. Dominique cries in confessional and says she’s inspired by a lot of things! Like…umm….That’s a wrap!
Skulls and crossbones! Pirates are coming! Arrrgh. Sara hopes she doesn’t go home but thinks she’s heading for a tongue lashing at panel. Meanwhile, Molly moans about her hair and everyone hates Alexandria. Monique just wants her to shut up and Jaclyn whispers that she’s scared of her. Alexandria doesn’t care.
Backstage at panel, Tyra greets Lori. Andre tells Tyra she smells good and Tyra looks into the camera to declare, “I am not funky.” The girls then enter and Tyra welcomes them. There are judges; Lori is the guest judge. And there are prizes. Monique and Alexandria are up first. Tyra asks how it went and Monique says they did well. Nigel likes Monique’s eyes, saying it shows personality. But he thinks Alexandria dominates the shot though Andre doesn’t think either dominates. Lori says that Alexandria was great in front of the camera. But off camera, she was cranky and that would turn a photographer off. Nigel tells her she can’t be a diva at this point.
Brittani and Hannah are next. Tyra loves Brittani’s makeover. Nigel loves their broken bodies and loves the shot. Tyra calls it a beautiful waltz while Andre praises Brittani. Dayla, Jaclyn and Dominique are up. Nigel declares it Alice in Wonderland-esque. He loves Dayla’s pose and how Jaclyn threw in a little Southern belle. Lori hopes Jaclyn goes far. They ask Dominique what happened and Nigel tells her to use the critiques to pick herself up and power on. Mikaela and Sara follow and Lori says that while Mikaela looks beautiful, she didn’t have her eyes open in a single shot. Nigel doesn’t love the Sara in the picture—she thinks it’s okay. But he loves Sara in person. Tyra gets to see Molly’s weave disaster in person and promises to fix it. Nigel loves Molly in the shot, not sure about Kasia. Now, is it just me, or does she look like Emily Osment in that shot? Andre calls their shot his favorite and thinks both girls look wonderful in it. Lori loves it and they dub Molly the “rascal sister” and Kasia “the good sister.”
The judges deliberate. Tyra says Alexandria draws you into the shot but Nigel says that reports of her being fussy on set are worrisome. They all love Brittani and Hannah. Nigel loves Jaclyn’s charm, thinks Dayla pulled it off but is unsure about Dominique. Tyra asks if they think Dominique is overwhelmed. They agree. Lori says that Mikaela was awkward and uncomfortable in the shoot. They see potential in Sara. They just love Molly and Kasia.
ELIMINATION! Best photo goes to…Alexandria. Oh, there will be no living with her now. Tyra tells her that a bad attitude on set will not be tolerated. She is followed by Molly, Brittani, Kasia, Jaclyn, Hannah, Monique, Dayla, and Mikaela. Dominique and Sara are our bottom two. They approach Tyra for their evaluation. Sara: Has the potential, but lacks the confidence. Dominique: Has an interesting beauty, but modeling comes from the inside out. So, who stays? Sara. She hugs Dominique and gets her picture. Tyra then hugs Dominique and asks if Dominique is going to give up. Dominique says she won’t and Tyra tells her to find inspiration before she steps inside a modeling agency.
Dominique leaves, saying she thinks she will be an asset to the modeling community.

That was interesting. Of course, no true meltdown but Molly comes pretty close. I like Brittani’s makeover, though most of the girls didn’t go too drastic this year. I did like the photo shoot. Otherwise, not much. Drama needs to kick up a notch.
Quote of the Episode
