Last week on Face-Off: Villains were created and evaluated. Jo grew frustrated with Megan, who still is flirting with Conor. In the end, Tom and his creepy Teddy Bear mask wearing Peter Pan rose to the top while Marcel and his bland 70’s skater serial killer were sent packing. Who will go home tonight? Find out!
We start at the loft with Gage, Megan and Conor talking about Marcel’s departure. Gage is taking this hard. In the next room, Tate complains about Conor and his protection of Megan. They say he started off so zen but she’s gotten him to change. Tate says this isn’t why superheroes don’t have girlfriends. Umm, hello? Lois Lane? Mary Jane Parker? I may not read comic books, but I do know superheroes have girlfriends.
McKenzie welcomes them to their foundation challenge. The foundation challenge has a guest judge Steve LaPorte, who won an Oscar for “Beetlejuice.” The models come out and are dressed in era clothing. The contestants have to match the hair to the period, but first they have to choose their models.
Sam: Western
Tom: Amish
Megan: Pirate
Conor: Rock and Roll
Jo: Renaissance
Anthony: Rastafarian
Gage: Biker
Tate: Futuristic
Anthony feels in his element and has tricks he uses to put the hair on. Jo goes with a Spanish feel for her model as Megan worries she turned her pirate into a samurai. Anthony is first, confident. But Steve wanted more. He’s impressed with Jo. He wanted more for Sam and is impressed with Conor. Steve liked that Tate blended the hair and that is matched the uniform. He liked that he added hair to the eyebrow. Steve whips out a comb on Megan’s pirate. Tom gets a passing grade for his Amish guy. Some of Steve’s favorites: Tom and Tate. The winner is Tate. Everyone applauds as McKenzie thanks Steve.
Now, she talks about their spotlight challenge. But first, they have to go outside. As the door closes, we go to commercials.
As we come back, a limo pulls up. And couples start coming out. The spotlight challenge is to make up these engaged couples for their wedding day. But there’s a gender twist! The bride will be dressed as the groom and vice versa. The final results will also be revealed in front of their friends and families. They will be in twos, but they will be picking them. Gage and Sam, Tom and Jo, Conor and Megan, Tate and Anthony. Tate and Anthony get to choose their couple since Tate won the foundation challenge. They take the young Asian couple. The groups go over to meet their couples. They ask some of the men to shave certain things—hands, eyebrows. They agree.
Time for the design phase. Tom and Jo decide to do a 70’s theme. Gage and Sam are going to turn theirs into old couple. Tate says they are doing a Vegas wedding with a pregnant bride. Megan says they should keep it classy. They next go to sculpting and I get the feeling that these transitions would’ve been more helpful in the first episode, not episode—what, four? Jo sculpts breasts while Conor wonders if Sam and Gage can pull off their old age design. And we go to commercials.
Conor says that he and Megan have gone in a way contrary to everyone else. Gage says he likes making his own bald cap.
Day 2: McKenzie brings in Ve Neill. Megan notes she won an Oscar for Mrs. Doubtfire. So she knows a thing or two about gender swap. Ve worries that people sometimes can’t get human coloring right. She’s worried about the old age concept. They leave and everyone continues to working. Jo notices that Conor is doing near all the work and Megan asks if he changed her sculpting. He says he smoothed it out and apologizes for changing it. Tate says that Gage and Sam broke the first two rules of old age makeup: they made it in one piece and used foam. Anthony says silicone looks more natural, but has a problem when the positive snaps.
Coming up: The judges notice Jo’s faces during judgment.
Tate and Anthony are able to troubleshoot their problem while Megan continues to watch Conor work. Jo calls Megan Conor’s little maid because she is mostly seen cleaning. And Anthony dances around with a pair of boobs. Okay…
Day 3: Time to apply everything to the models. Tom says he used some of the notes he took during the foundation challenge for his hair. Megan does the beauty makeup and says she’s thriving. Gage announces the fifteen minute warning. Anthony assures his groom he can pass for a chick. Everyone packs up to head to the studios. They do their touch ups as a stage hand yells “Five minutes!”
The stage looks like a hotel’s wedding pavilion. McKenzie welcomes them. Anthony says he now realizes how much harder this challenge is with the audience. McKenzie welcomes the judges: Glenn, Ve and Patrick. Willie and Cecily (Conor and Megan) are first. They look pretty good. Ve tells the couple they look great. Greg and Annie (Gage and Sam) looks decent. Dean and Mirai (Tom and Jo) look very good. Peter and Kathleen (Tate and Anthony) come out and theirs came out the best, I think. Peter plays with it, having contractions. The judges are cracking up. McKenzie thanks the family and friends for coming and assures them that their loved ones will be more recognizable on their big days.
The judges take their closer looks as soon as the studio is cleared. Sam and Gage are concerned.
Commercials!
This week, everyone gets to speak to the judges. Gage and Sam are first. Glenn liked it overall from faraway, but not so much close up. He isn’t pleased with the colors in the skin. Sam says she is new and it shows. Ve says it was a good try and admits she still has difficulty with old age makeup. Conor and Megan are next. Glenn asks for who did what while Jo shakes her head as Conor says they did things together. Glenn likes the makeup as Ve notices Jo looking weird. Jo says that Conor did more of the work. Ve asked what she did and Megan says she did the bride. Ve loved the bride. Conor says he picked Megan because of her beauty makeup skills and Glenn asks him why he defended Megan. Conor says it’s because he’s noticed a lot of bitching (not his word, but still appropriate) going on in the competition and feels their critique shouldn’t have been interrupted.
Ve calls Tom’s groom “the Kebler elf” and Ve says he looks like a bad audio-animatronic figure. Tom calls it trailer park 70’s trash. Patrick says it still looks feminine. Jo notices that there is no prosthetics. Glenn says he’s disappointed. Tate and Anthony are last. Ve says she loved their idea. Ve calls the groom pretty and likes the fingernails. Patrick is also very impressed.
Glenn picks Anthony and Tate as well as Conor and Megan as the top two teams, with Conor and Megan being the top team. The winner is Megan as they feel the bride was the best transformation and she handled the beauty makeup on him (her?). McKenzie congratulates her and gets to stay to confer with the judges. Everyone leaves as Jo feels she’s going to leave but Tom thinks it’ll be him.
And Megan even says Tom from the beard and the coloring. The judges start talking. Ve calls Jo’s makeup flat while they think Tom’s hair shows possibility. He does worry that if they send Jo home, Tom will have a grudge against Megan. Does Tom even know who Megan suggested? Tom and Jo stand before the judges as we cut to commercials…
Hmm, tough to say. It could be Tom, but I know from Top Model that no judge likes a contestant that throws someone under the bus.
We come back to a lovely scene for an elimination. Glenn calls Tom’s makeup an abysmal failure and tells Jo that her work was a disaster too. The person going home is…Jo. Good-bye, House Bitch! She doesn’t even give Tom a hug. Anthony gives her a hug as she comes out. She tells Megan she knows what she’s done here and to do her work. Megan forgives her as Jo leaves saying she has the drive to succeed.
So, another episode down and Jo’s gone. Can’t say I’m going to miss her. I bet Jo is going to be a bit embarrassed once she sees who Megan really voted off. Do you think the judges make the best decision? Talk about it!
Next week: Zombies! And a double elimination!
Quote of the Episode:
“Anthony’s finally whole!”—someone on Anthony dancing around with fake boobs.
