Snow Bride

Our Christmas in July celebration continues with another Hallmark classic. And this one starring Jill Taylor!

So, grab your wedding dress and watch out for SPOILERS!

Greta Kaine (Katrina Law) is one of the top reporters for a celebrity gossip magazine. Her editor, Lou (George Wyner), reveals that there are some changes happening with the magazine moving online and says that Greta is up for a promotion. She does have to compete with a rival, Wesley Sharpe (Tom Lenk), and Lou issues them a challenge: There are rumors about political family the Tannenhills. The first one to get the story will get the promotion.

Meanwhile, Christmas is approaching…as well as the wedding Greta will be in for Doria (Dana Barron). She asks Greta to pick the dress she will be wearing—a family heirloom from her groom. Greta does so but her assistant, Julie (Tania Gunadi), calls her to tell her that there is movement on the Tannenhills and Wesley is already on the move.

Not wanting to be scooped by him, Greta takes the dress and drives upstate to where the Tannenhills have a house. A snowstorm surprises her, though, and she finds herself stranded wearing nothing but her gym clothes. Desperate, Greta puts on the dress and heads off to find help. When all seems lost, Ben Tannenhill (Jordan Belfi) emerges and rescues her.

Ben takes her to a cabin and gives her some clothes to change into. Greta gives him a false name as well as a made up story about running from her wedding after getting cold feet. She sees this as her chance to get close to the family and get the scoop before Wesley.

Yet Ben surprises her. Instead of the haughty playboy she had been expecting based on all the gossip, she finds a down-to-earth gentleman who is torn between following his own dreams and following in his family’s footsteps. He takes care of Greta, getting her car fixed and her dress repaired.

Tannenhill friend and employee Peters (Robert Curtis Brown) finds them in the cabin and says that Ben is needed up at the main house. Ben takes Greta with him. There, she meets his mother, Maggie Tannenhill (Patricia Richardson), and his brother, Jared Tannenhill (Bobby Campo). She then learns what all the rumors were about—Jared has brought home his new girlfriend and she’s not just any woman. It is Klaire Sinclaire (Susie Abromeit)—Ben’s ex!

Sensing Ben’s discomfort, Greta lies again and tells everyone that she is Ben’s girlfriend. He decides to play along to save face in front of his family and ex.

Over the next days, Greta realizes everything she thought she knew about the Tannenhills was wrong. They are a regular family who do good deeds because they like to, not out of some obligation or to look good. She can tell that Maggie, Ben and Jared are very close and they are a loving family.

She also finds that Klaire is less than sincere and seems to enjoy the attention dating a Tannenhill gives her. Greta doubts that Klaire actually loves Jared or Ben. But she finds herself falling for him. When he lets her read a book he wrote, she feels honored and wants to get to know him better.

Greta also grows closer to the family. She senses that Peters’ loyalty to the family may also be due to deeper feelings he harbors for Maggie, feelings he’s never acted on because she was in love with Senator Tannenhill. Maggie and Ben also separately reveal that Klaire loved to be in the tabloids and they were convinced she fed them stories, including claiming that the late Senator cheated on Maggie with her. Greta is appalled and starts to doubt running a gossip piece on them.

After helping the Tannenhills with a fundraiser, Greta realizes Klaire is getting jealous of how well she fits in with the family. She also submits Ben’s manuscript to an editor friend of hers and agrees to accompany him to big ball.

At the ball, Greta runs into Wesley and warns him not to blow her cover. Klaire sees them together and grows suspicious. She also seems to be flirting with Ben hardcore but when Jared proposes, she agrees. Ben is in shock and Greta comforts him…with a kiss.

Following the ball, Klaire blows Greta’s cover. Ben is understandably hurt and won’t listen to any of her explanations. Brokenhearted, Greta packs and heads home—complete with a fixed, if altered, wedding dress for Doria.

Back home, Greta returns the dress and spills everything to Doria. Doria realizes that Greta fell in love with Ben and races off with an invitation. Meanwhile, Greta returns to work and refuses to write any piece on the Tannenhills. Lou pleads with her but she stands firm. So he fires her.

At the Tannenhill estate, Klaire confesses to Ben that she still loves him and only accepted his brother’s proposal because she was put on the spot. Ben, though, knows she only wants to be famous and is latching onto the family. She tries to kiss him but he rebuffs her. She threatens to turn Jared against him but he saw the whole thing. He breaks up with her and she throws her engagement ring in the snow. Once she storms off, the brothers look for the ring together and make up.

Greta packs up her desk when she and Julie notice Klaire coming in with Wesley and Lou. She wonders what Klaire is up to and Julie promises to get the scoop. Julie pulls through and reveals that the magazine is going to run Klaire’s story about having an affair with Senator Tannenhill. Greta is horrified and decides to drive out to tell the Tannenhills herself.

She spills all and learns that Klaire is getting revenge because she was rejected by both Ben and Jared. They wonder what’s going to happen next and Maggie asks for the phone. She reveals that she knew who Greta was the entire time but she was curious to see how it played out. Greta realizes Maggie told her about Klaire’s lies to see if she would print the story. Maggie confirms it and is pleased her trust was put in the right person. But she took steps just in case it wasn’t. She calls Lou and reveals that the Tannenhills are the ones buying the magazine. Maggie gets Klaire’s story pulled and gets Greta her job back. That’s that.

Maggie invites Greta to stay for dinner but she decides it’s best if she heads back to the city. She leaves an envelope for Ben, revealing she sent his manuscript to a publisher friend of hers and that his book is going to be published. She leaves and Ben wonders if he should do it. Maggie encourages him to sign the contract…and to pursue Greta. He points out she was using him for a story and Maggie points out that she didn’t write a story about them. It gives him something to think about it.

Some time later, Greta is at Doria’s wedding. She tries to have fun but she’s still bummed about Ben. Until he shows up! Turns out Doria sent him an invite. Ben reveals he signed the contract and he asks her to try again. She agrees and they share a kiss.

As far as the liar revealed plot goes, this is pretty well done. Greta is a likeable character and someone we want to root for. She and Ben work will together as the actors have great chemistry. And Klaire is properly smarmy. And Richardson is a delight, as always.
