Mikey goes home to celebrate his first picture call out. He goes to see his TyTyTip. Tyra tells him to rock his brand—chilling on the beach—but to remember to be high fashion. Meanwhile, Mikey and Mame flirt but Mame insists that she wants Justin. Really? Because this doesn’t look like it. Mikey says he just wants to stay focused now.
Lacey, Nyle and Mame sit down in the living room to discuss being part of the FINAL four. We’re so close to the end of it all, you guys. Lacey says this is all her dreams coming true and Mame talks about her childhood again.
Miss J then shows up to invite them to a barbeque. But he has a surprise for them—Chrissy Teigen is there! I do love her. She tells them to relax and have fun. As they eat, Mame asks her about her usual diet. Chrissy admits she loves the food they are eating and says on bad weekends, she and John Legend can gain 12 pounds. Miss J says that the real work will begin after they win and Chrissy says they still have to go to castings. Even she does. She then says that since Mikey got best photo, he gets to spend time with her.
He takes her to the selfie booth and tells her about how he’s learning to rock his “rich guy” look. Chrissy gives him some advice before leaving. Mame thinks Mikey needs some female attention. I think he just needs some ice down his pants.
Tyra Mail! “Ever been mocked? As a model, you better get used to it!” Lacey jumps to people throwing tomatoes at them.
That would be interesting.
Nyle says he’s feeling down after landing in the bottom two last week. He says sometimes people give deaf people a chance but don’t let them win, insisting the opportunity was enough. But he wants to win, to show the world what deaf people can do.
Wanna be on top?
The model mobile takes the models to Yu Tsai, who reminds them about their spread in Nylon magazine should they win. He introduces them to Michelle Lee, the editor-in-chief of Nylon, and J. Errico, the fashion director. Michelle says they will have them shoot mock covers for Nylon and then put them out at a newsstand. The readers will decide which one is the best and the models will get to watch and hear all their comments. J. Errico tells them the cover is the place to show their personality the most and Michelle says that the winner will get to take part in a segment on Nylon video. Yu Tsai sends them to hair and makeup.
J. Errico has them pull some pieces they like and work on who they are. Lacey says she’s young and from the South. Mame says she’s regal, which impresses J. Errico. Mikey says he’s fun and he’s up first. Michelle says he has a good backstory and tells him to use it—someone making something out of nothing. Massimo is there to take their pictures and Yu Tsai seems impressed.
Lacey is next and Yu Tsai says that while she’s taking beautiful pictures, he’s not sure she’s Nylon. Mame says Lacey’s been doing the same thing for weeks now and is getting stagnant. Yu Tsai tells her not to rely on her mouth and Lacey says she knows her comfort zone is a boring. Nyle tells Michelle he wants to be heard even though he’s deaf. She suggests to use something that’s a subtle nod to signing. Yu Tsai and Michelle love his performance. He says Nyle follows directions the best.
Mame is last and Lacey says that she’s beautiful but her pictures have never had that extra “oomph.” Yu Tsai warns Mame not to be too commercial. Yu Tsai doesn’t seem impressed.
Michelle gives them their covers to see while Yu Tsai goes out into the street to round up people to look at them while the models watch.

Michelle has some feedback. Mikey should learn to rock his surfer look without relying on his hair. Michelle didn’t think Nyle was Nylon guy at first but she loves the eye contact in the final image. Mame is beautiful but too stiff on set. Lacey was a great mix of sweet and edge but was too repetitive. And the winner is…Nyle! He’ll get to be in the video and he says he’s honored.
At home, Nyle celebrates his perfect challenge score. Mikey and Lacey are tied with nine while Mame hangs on the bottom with an 8. Nyle says that puts her in risk of going home and Mame says she would’ve gone a different route styling wise. Mikey says the 8 is good because he thought she was going to get lower. Mame curses him out as she says she can’t be the one who messes up. Mikey offers to give her help and says he’ll be in the Tyra Suite.
COMMERCIALS!
Tyra comes in and starts yelling for her models in Spanish. They come down and she says she came to visit them. She asks what they were doing and Mame says they were playing a hand game, like what we used to play on the playground. She and Tyra play and Tyra wins. Tyra says she wants to introduce their next photorapher and says this person was her first photographer, took her first pictures and coached her. It’s Mama Banks! Tyra says a girl in high school said she should model so she begged her mother, who was reluctant at first. But then she gave in. She says she was scared because she heard the horror stories but Tyra was persistent. Mame is envious of how supportive Mama Banks was of Tyra. She says Tyra was focused and driven and gained respect. She tells them to plan for the end at the beginning.
Mama Banks will be doing their shoot and Tyra says the finalists need some home loving as well. So she brought in their mamas! Everyone runs and hugs their mothers. Mikey turns into mush at being reunited with his mother. As everyone cries over seeing their mothers, we go to…

Nyle talks about how his mother is also deaf and raised three boys on her own. Mame says it’s been a while since she saw her mother since she had to come from Ghana. All the mothers will be posing in the pictures with their children. All together now:
Nyle says he has an advantage because his mother models in front of the mirror. Tyra tells the mothers they’ll get full hair, makeup and high fashion looks. But their children’s future in the competition is also riding on them. No pressure.
Tyra says the mothers will be queens and Mikey’s mama starts crying. She says she’s never done anything for herself and Tyra hugs her. Mame’s mother says she’s shy but Tyra says they’ll pull her out. Lacey says she’s a mama’s girl and she didn’t handle her parents’ divorce well. But she says her mother has always told her she was beautiful, so she wants to win for her.
The models show their mothers around and NYLE HAS A TWIN BROTHER? Hold up, there’s double the hotness? Anyway, he says they had to separate their arguing parents though they were never physical. Nyle says he remembers telling his mother to get a divorce. He says he’s his mother’s protector.
Meanwhile, Mame tells her mother that one day this will be theirs. Her mother says if Allah wills it and Mame echoes it. She says there still seems to be a distance between them. Mame and her mother talk about living apart. Or rather, Mame talks and her mother doesn’t say much. Is it because of the cameras? Because she doesn’t want to air their family laundry?
Yu Tsai comes to talk to Lacey and her mom. He asks her about growing up and Lacey says it was a hard time. She talks about how she felt worthless so she worked on her appearance. Lacey admits she thought her parents’ divorce was her fault. Yu Tsai tells her that he’s proud of her and she needs to bring her strength to the photoshoot.
The moms and models hit make up and wardrobe. Tyra is there making all the decisions. She decides everyone is going to have two pictures and two looks. Nyle and his mother is up first. His mother gets it and they start nailing their shots. Tyra and Yu Tsai love everything. Mama Banks is drawn in by his eyes and Mama Nyle says she’s so proud of her son. They then set up for their second shot. Tyra wants Mama Nyle to replicate a pose Barbra Streisand did and she nails it.
Lacey and her mama go next. Tyra loves it and Yu Tsai praises her. As she and mama change for their next set of photos, Lacey says she knows she has to push through her shell if she wants to make it to the Top 3. She and Mama nail their next go around, judging by Tyra’s and Yu Tsai’s reactions. She and her mother share a hug.
Mame and her mother is next. They struggle to connect as we go to…

Tyra talks with Mama Mame and figures out how to connect with her. Mama Mame channels Donna Summer and seems to nail the second set of photos. Mame says her challenge score wasn’t great but she hopes she got a good shot. And she thanks her Mama.
Mama Mikey is next. She and Mikey work well together and nail their shots.

Mama Banks and Tyra give them sparkling apple cider for a toast. Everyone drinks and celebrates. The models talk about how they are here to win and don’t want to go home. You know, the usual.

PANEL! There are judges—Miss J and Kelly. There are prizes. Mame is first. She says she was in shock to see her mother. Miss J loves Mame’s first shot and says they look regal. Kelly starts to give her critique and notices Mame is crying. They ask her what’s wrong. She says her mother married her father right out of school and didn’t get a chance to explore her own passions. Tyra says Mame is so strong in the second picture and Miss J loves her mother in the shot. Mikey is next. He says it was amazing to see his mother. Mikey plans to blow the picture up and put it in the bedroom. The judges don’t think that’s a good choice. Kelly loves his first shot and says it reminds her of Vanity Fair. She loves the second picture as does Tyra.
Lacey thanks Tyra for letting her see her mother. Miss J is not a fan but Tyra and Kelly disagree. They love Lacey and her mother in this shot. Tyra says it looks like they are moving and that it’s a moment. Nyle is last. He says his mama is a New York woman and he loves her so much. Tyra and Kelly love Mama Nyle. He starts crying and takes a moment. Nyle says she raised him on her own and the judges sent a shout out to the single mothers. He says the picture represents her perfectly. Kelly says she looks so powerful in the second shot and that he looks like the best son ever. Miss J says he looks strong. Tyra loves the connection between him and his mother.
Tyra dismisses the contestants so they can add up the score. We go to…

ELIMINATION! Best photo goes to…Mame (9.6, 10, 9.5). She is joined by Nyle (8.8, 9.4, 8.8). That leaves Lacey and Mikey in the bottom two. I figured Lacey might go but I’m still nervous for her. Lacey: Gave her mother confidence and they rocked their photos. Mikey: Had passionate love for his mother and it showed. Who stays? It’s a tie! So the judges have to decide. Tyra says they debated and fought but they made a decision. Lacey gets to stay! I’m actually floored. No wait, it’s a psyche out. Mikey’s staying too! He needs a moment. Tyra says they performed so well and they impressed Mama Banks. So they both get to stay!

Tyra tells them she’s proud of the four of them. She says it’s rare for Top Model to have a tie and for both to stay. But there’s only two spots—one guy, one girl—for the fashion show. They have to prepare a presentation to convince the judges that they should be America’s Next Top Model.

That was a surprise. But I’m so glad my girl Lacey got to stay. I hope it’s her and Nyle in the finale. And there’s a chance Nyle could take it all, but honestly—I wouldn’t be surprised if any of them won.
