ANTM: No Neck Monster

Last time on Top Model: The top 22 finalists moved into their house, designed by the Property Brothers. Hadassah did nothing to endear herself to the others by calling a house meeting and explaining everything that she didn’t like. The next day, they had their first photoshoot but Alexa decided to call quits before it. Kelly even begged her to stay!

After the photoshoot, the judges whittled down the group to the 14 finalists. So the 21 remaining hopefuls were brought to a shipyard where they were told that they would walk a high-flying catwalk. Those who were chosen would make it across safely and the seven not chosen would be “dropped” (lowered down). Who made it? Who was dropped? Find out!

Wanna be on top?

We return to the shipyard where Alexis Borges repeats the challenge. He then tells the models that he’ll be watching so pretty much don’t screw this up. But they all seem to be freaking out about being suspended over the ground and frankly, who could blame them? Devin meanwhile goes on about how needs this show to make a name for himself.

Debatable.

Bello says he’s ready for his moment but hopes Devin goes. Yes, he still hates him as we get clips from their fight last week.

Anyway, the models are sent to hair and makeup. As they hang out there, Courtney and Mike joke around. Courtney admits she was bullied in school and didn’t have many friends. She thinks Mikey might be a good one.

The models are introduced to their designer, Erik “Mister Triple X” Rosete. And the girls are told they will be wearing shoes by Miss J Alexander. Yes, he designs shoes! Nice shoes too. Damn, Miss J. I might even buy a pair. The girls are thrilled as Miss J shows them how to walk a runway. Maleesa says she owns the catwalk and that she might keep her shoes even if she doesn’t make it as a finalist.

I don’t blame her.

After the boys strut their stuff—Devin seeming to pass Miss J’s inspection as Bello continued to hate him—every is put on lifts and taken to the catwalk. A group prays on their way up and Mikey curses as they reach the top. Mame wonders how they won’t fall off—especially the girls—as Miss J stands on the other side with Alexis. I just noticed Miss J’s shirt has been blurred out. I wonder why?

Dustin is first up on the catwalk and he takes the first step off. Alexis and Miss J tell him to keep modeling as he hangs in midair, so Dustin starts moving his legs as if he was still walking. Though he drops a bit, he does make it safely to the other side. Dustin’s in!

Lacey walks next and kills it. Alexis and Miss J are impressed as she keeps posing across the way until she lands on the opposite side. She’s in! Lacey runs and hugs Dustin as Mame gets on the catwalk. Hadassah considers her the biggest competition. Mame talks about being in the Tyra Suite and how she wants to stay in the competition. And guess what? She can!

Bryant walks next and says he gave up a scholarship to be on the show, so he better make it. Stefano thinks Bryant is his competition and it almost looks like Bryant makes it across, but everyone gasps as we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

So, does Bryant make it across? No, he doesn’t. He’s the first person lowered down and he gets teary-eyed about it. After him, we see some girl named Larissa face the same fate while Justin makes it across, much to Mame’s delight. She’s got a crush on him. Delanie, Ashley, Hadassah, Nyle and Stefano also are safe.

Gage doesn’t make it across and either does Miguel or Maleesa. Maleesa says she’s disappointed in herself. So then Ava goes across, scared she won’t make it. But though Miss J has some questions about her walk, her posing is fierce and she makes it. Bello then goes next and makes it across, much to Devin’s dismay.

India freaks out as before she even reaches the end of the catwalk and panics all the way down. Mikey forgets to keep posing but he makes it to the other side. Courtney takes to the runway, nervous but she holds her own until she makes it to the other side. That leaves only Dallas and Devin left and Bello prays that Dallas makes it. We see Dallas take his flight, but his fate is saved for after…

COMMERCIALS!

So does Dallas fly or fall? He falls but Miss J says that doesn’t meant Devin’s spot is guaranteed. So Devin walks across the catwalk as Miss J yells that nothing is guaranteed. But to Bello’s dismay, Devin makes across and that’s it—we have our top 14 finalists!

Tyra shows up as the finalists are lowered down, congratulating them. She says she’ll see them…whenever…but right now, it’s time to celebrate. They do so as they head back to their house.

At the house, we see the challenge scoreboard. Lacey’s excited to be a finalist but upset that Mame won the challenge while Lacey came in second. She says she hoped Mame would burst into flames before laughing. Devin isn’t too thrilled about his seven and hopes to step up his game.

Meanwhile, they pop open champagne while Nyle uses his text-to-speech app to give a toast. They drink and drunk Bello has difficulty talking as he continues to say he hopes Devin goes home. At least, I think he meant Devin. A drunk Bello isn’t a coherent one.

COMMERCIALS!

In the morning, the model mobile takes them to their first photoshoot as the final 14! Erik Asla is back to shoot them, explaining it’s a wide beauty shot. Yu Tsai says they will be paired together and bound together with wires.

Our pairings:
Lacey and Bello
Hadassah and Dustin
Justin and Mame
Courtney and Mikey

We’re cut off here as Yu Tsai says they will be getting a lesson about their necks from a special teacher. Who? Tyra, of course. She talks about people slamming models for being “no neck monsters” online, especially against her. Tyra says she’s going to show them good and bad no necks—because there are good no necks. And she’ s going to use animals because…Tyra. That explains a lot on this show.

Some of the bad no necks are the turtle, the iguana and the gorilla. We even get to see Will again as Tyra reminds us that he had a problem with hunching forward and looking like a gorilla. But he overcame it and discovered his inner giraffe, elongating the neck. So, what animals have good no necks? Let’s find out! They are the horse (where your neck is there but covered) and the owl (where you’re looking over your shoulder). The models practice before Tyra releases them to hair and make up.

But first, they decide to take some selfies. Even Yu Tsai gets in on it. Some models, like Lacey, decide to use it as practice. She and Nyle look really good together.

Bello and Lacey are up first. Tyra is hanging around, watching their photoshoot. She has to direct Bello, who struggles and gets outshone a bit by Lacey. Because she is awesome. Devin and Ashley are next, which Devin likes. He manages to rock it, as does Ashley. Stefano decides that Devin is his competition.

After Tyra had been yelling out about the animals she taught them, Stefano asks Hadassah who her strongest animal is. Hadassah says she doesn’t think they actually have to use the animals and Stefano reminds her that Tyra did a private teach, so it’s probably expected. She then gives us our quote of the episode, so check it out below!

On set, Hadassah struggles to find the light as well as deliver. Tyra, Erik and Yu Tsai have to give her a lot of guidance. I’m crossing my fingers now that she goes home. After freeing Dustin from Hadassah, Justin and Mame were next. It seems there might be a mutual attraction going on as they joked about sharing the Tyra Suite and even Yu Tsai says their feelings feel natural rather than fashion. But they managed to knock it out.

Yu Tsai talks to Delanie backstage about her weight loss and gives her some modeling tips. But she still struggles, with Tyra and Yu Tsai trying to give her direction while Nyle just stands there being awesome. When they are done, our next couple is tied together.  Stefano tells Ava to follow his lead but she’s having none of that. She tells him to follow hers and he really should. Because Ava kills it while Stefano struggles.

Backstage, Yu Tsai finds Courtney crying. She says it’s a tough transition but she doesn’t want her nerves to send her home. He takes her some place quiet and gives her a pep talk. Mikey notices Courtney is gone and goes looking for her, worried about their shoot. He finds her and she promises it was just a stomach ache. Mikey first asks if she ate and she’s like “Yes, you saw me.” He tells her that she’s amazing and that he needs her. She brightens up.

Mikey performs well once onstage though Courtney struggles a bit. Tyra gives her guidance and eventually she nails it.

That’s a wrap!

The models chill by the pool as Mikey tells a few others that he’s tired of supporting Courtney, that he’s been doing it from the start. Dude, I know for us it’s week 3, but I figured for you it’s barely into week 2. You couldn’t handle seven days? Or is it that you haven’t gotten laid yet? Because while you haven’t said it, I get the feeling that’s why you’re giving up on Courtney. He says he can’t keep taking care of her, reminding her to eat, etc. And he says he’s surrounded by weak people, no doubt lumping Courtney in with them.

She hears him and starts crying, getting out of the pool. Bello and Ava follow her to comfort her and Mikey figures it out. He goes to talk to her, though he says he didn’t make her cry. Ava tells him he did and he pretty much tells her to shut up. He tries to talk to Courtney but Ava stops him, telling him he won’t talk to (Ava) that way. He yells back at her while Bello tries to get him to leave for Courtney’s sake. Courtney storms off and Mikey follows, trying to tell her that he’s always there for her but she’s not listening to him. He’s coming off as a bit of manipulator right now. But as Courtney continues to shut him out, he storms off, saying he hopes Ava or Bello are there for her. Courtney hopes it doesn’t shake her up for panel.

COMMERCIALS!

PANEL! Tyra welcomes the models. She introduces the judges: Kelly Cutrone and Miss J. And there are prizes. As usual, I won’t list them until the finale. Tyra also explains how judging is going to go: The judges will score them and it’ll be added up to their challenge score. Looks like social media has been dropped. Tyra says they won’t know the judges score until she reveals the order.

Bello and Lacey are up first. Miss J loves the picture and Tyra praises Bello for softening up and looking right on. She loves Lacey and Kelly says she’s scared to see what Lacey looks like after she has sex for the first time if she can be so sexy now. The judges put in their scores before Tyra calls up Hadassah and Dustin. Tyra praises her skin but says she needs to follow directions. Hadassah says she didn’t know what a profile meant and that she’s still learning modeling terms. Kelly says that’s no excuse and that models who don’t listen, don’t get hired again. Tyra says Dustin’s face isn’t the greatest but it was one of the better shots of Hadassah—even showing a better shot of Dustin to prove it.

Devin and Ashley are next. Miss J thinks Devin stole the picture. Kelly agrees and loves Devin’s look. Tyra is impressed how he turned it on and then praises Ashley’s look, calling it a combination of a giraffe and an owl. Delanie and Nyle are next. Kelly thinks they look like they were found washed ashore after the sinking of the Titanic. Miss J says Delanie was amazing on the catwalk and he’s disappointed it didn’t translate to her pictures. Tyra says she can go too soft so when she needs to be sexy, she needs to think more gangsta. Meanwhile, Nyle needed to be more sexy and needed to think Don Juan.

Mikey and Courtney are up next. Miss J wants Mikey to be stronger but Tyra wonders how that could be possible. Everyone praises Mikey…and Courtney. Tyra calls Mikey Sampson, saying he gets stronger with more hair. He begs her not to cut it off. So you know what that means! As Mikey panics, Tyra tells Courtney to be more aware of the light. Ava and Stefano step forward and he says that he took charge because Ava is so young. Kelly tells him he should’ve been more concerned about being a model because Ava was fine. Everyone agrees that Ava stole the picture from him. Tyra says she wanted to have guys because they are just considered accessories and that’s all Stefano was in this shot.

Last up are Justin and Mame. Tyra applauds Mame for winning the challenge. Everyone praises Justin for looking soft, sensual and still holding his own in the picture. Tyra wants Mame to look stronger. She then gives everyone advice that if they aren’t facing whoever they are working with to just mutter game plans so they can be together. She then sends the models out so the judges can add up their scores.

COMMERCIALS!

ELIMINATION! Best photo goes to…Devin (Miss J: 9, Tyra: 10, Kelly: 10). He is joined by Justin (8.5, 9, 9), Lacey (8, 8.7, 9), Mikey (8, 8, 9.5), Ava (8, 8.3, 9), Mame (8, 8, 7), Bello (7.9, 8.9, 8.5), Ashley (7, 8. 8.2), Courtney (8, 7.9, 7.8), Hadassah (6.8, 8, 7.3), Nyle (7, 8, 7), and Dustin (6.8, 7.3, 6.4). That leaves Stefano and Delanie in the bottom two. Delanie: Is she too pretty? And she still can’t model with her lower half. Stefano: Has the looks. But can he be more than just an accessory? So who stays? Who goes first? Stefano gets to stay, which means Delanie is the first one kicked off.

Tyra tells Stefano to be more than an accessory. He joins the others as Tyra hugs Delanie. She tells her to practice and figure out how to edge up her look. Delanie thanks her and leaves, saying she’s disappointed but she’s going to continue on.

Quote of the Episode
