The Good Witch’s Wonder: Here We Go Again!

It’s Halloween! Which means Hallmark is…actually, they are starting their Christmas movies tonight. So they had their Halloween related movies this past Saturday. Which was just a marathon of “The Good Witch” movies. I watched almost all of them (I took a break to watch America’s Next Top Model) and then caught the newest addition.

Please to enjoy.

Also, SPOILERS!

We start in a house where a redhead gathers paperwork, personal items, clothes and money into a bag. She hears the door open and makes a run for it. A tall man walks through the house, but we never see his face. He doesn’t find the redhead and goes back into the house.

For a minute, the redhead looked like the character of Mia from the last Good Witch movie—the one who babysat Grace and wanted to restore paintings? Since we never saw the man clearly, I wondered if it was Drew. And I was going to be so mad if they made Drew an abusive bastard because I figured it was a woman running away from an abusive partner.

Middleton has a new mayor--Martha (Catherine Disher)! She’s ready to take charge and keep Middleton great—as well as make it better. But she has big shoes to fill. Cassie (Catherine Bell) was a beloved mayor who apparently did much for the town. At least her staff is besotted with her. Martha, though, is up to the challenge.

Cassie, meanwhile, is looking forward to having more time with Jake (Chris Potter) and Grace. She continues to have her shop, where she hires newcomer Audrey (Rachel Wilson) to help her. Once again, Cassie befriends an out of towner who acts shifty.

Meanwhile, Brandon (Matthew Knight) and Tara (Ashley Leggat) continue to plan their wedding. But they have a surprise for Cassie, Jake and Tara’s aunt—Brandon’s been offered a job on a tour. So he and Tara want to get married before he has to leave in a week. Everyone panics though Brandon points out that Cassie and his dad got married in six days (The Good Witch’s Gift).

Lori (Hannah Endicott-Douglas) is still in school and is now writing for her college newspaper. She’s also turning into one of its star writers after a piece about her experience with online dating. Many readers then wanted to date her, so she uses that as her follow up piece. All the while, she seems totally oblivious to the fact that her editor, Jim (Connor Price), is halfway in love with her.

George (Peter MacNeill) concerned about Grace’s education after picking her up from kindergarten. Her teacher, Ms. Bryson (Paula Brancati), is a sweetheart of a teacher who uses rather unorthodox methods to teach her students. George, though, isn’t sure it’s working with Grace. With the school closed for developmental days, George decides to tutor Grace for a few days. Cassie agrees.

Martha starts to struggle as mayor and starts to feel inferior to Cassie. She’s trying to build a botanical garden, but it’s costing more than she expected. And she seems to fail at putting together a proposal. Whatever happened to her husband, a former mayor? Wouldn’t he be able to help her with all of this? Anyway, she tries to imitate Cassie, but Cassie sets her right soon enough. They do plan a silent auction to help raise money for the gardens. Cassie puts Aubrey in charge of the items.

As Tara and Brandon plan their wedding, Tara’s aunt starts meddling. Well, maybe meddling is too strong a word. She is just trying to make sure Tara is happy and isn’t compromising too much with Brandon. Her heart’s in the right place. But she puts doubt in Tara’s mind and after an argument with Brandon, they decide they aren’t ready for marriage and break up.

Jake and Derek deal with Martha’s helicoptering mother type ways as mayor while Derek also finds himself drawn to Aubrey. But she’s thrown for a loop when a young man named Grant (Paul Popowich) comes to town to help create an online catalogue for the auction. It’s pretty easy to realize that they have a connection and the way he glares at her, he’s probably her abusive partner. Uh oh.

George’s tutoring sessions with Grace aren’t going so well. Except that he does learn that Grace knows a lot more than he thought and she credits Ms. Bryson a lot. She also disappears and reappears quite a bit as well. They need to put a bell on her.

As for Lori’s plot—I pretty much summed it up earlier. But there’s a point where she thinks Jim’s sabotaging her dates in order to make her story better. You know, when he really wants to be the one on the date with her. *Sigh*

Things go from bad to worse when all the items for the auction are stolen. And guess who was in charge? Aubrey! And guess who is missing now? Aubrey! Jake and Derek investigate and find some footage of Aubrey pawning a few items. Martha is outraged and Cassie is hurt over the betrayal. Jake tries to get Cassie’s gut reading on the situation but she can’t trust her gut right now.

However, she finds Aubrey and convinces her to turn herself in. Derek and Jake have no choice but to lock her up until she can get in front of a judge—which is not until Monday. So Cassie decides to visit Aubrey in prison with some food. Aubrey opens up to Cassie, admitting that she was in an abusive relationship with Grant and that he was forcing her to steal the items to get money. Cassie has an idea on how to get Grant.

Martha runs into Grant and mentions an item she donated to the auction. She says a curator told her that it’s a rare Hopi relic and that it could fetch a lot of money. She hopes it’s found soon. Grant gets a gleam in his eye and is later caught trying to pawn it. He’s brought in and Aubrey is free to go, free of Grant. All the items are returned and the auction is a go!

George goes to apologize to Ms. Bryson, telling her that he realizes that her teaching style is perfect for Grace. He just has to get used to being obsolete, he guesses. Ms. Bryson cheers him up by showing him some of Grace’s art work. Most it features him. She tells George that Grace loves him and considers him a very important person in her life. George is touched.

Brandon and Tara make up, with Brandon even offering to turn down the tour. He just wants to be with her and make her happy. He proposes again and she accepts, but she wants him to go on tour. Looks like the wedding is back on! Lori finally get hit with the clue bus and asks Jim to be her date to the wedding—as well as her boyfriend. He accepts.

So we end with a wedding. Aubrey attends with Derek and tells Cassie that she’s going to veterinary school. Cassie’s happy for her. Happy endings all around!

So that was “The Good Witch’s Wonder.” I think they’re running out of material, which makes me wonder about the series scheduled for next year. More on that later. Back to why I think they are running out of material: It seems like they are repeating the same story for Cassie. Some stranger comes into town, deals with Cassie, she is nothing but kind to them, they screw her over in some way, she finds out the truth, happy ending! Lather, rinse, repeat. It’s getting a bit tedious.

Back to the series…It’s supposed to debut next year some time. Catherine Bell is returning but I’ve heard nothing of everyone else. The commercial mentioned Bailee Madison and James Denton. So we’ll see when it debuts.

Happy Halloween!
