Anyway, Aurora tells Snow that Zelena wants Snow’s baby. Which proves Regina’s point that the Charmings shouldn’t make a big deal about announcing their impending arrival. But the Charmings will not be intimidated by a green witch riding a broomstick. Speak of the devil!
Zelena flies in and turns Aurora and Philip into flying monkeys for blabbing. No one blinks an eye. Aww, come on, guys. At least pretend like they were your friends.
(Sleeping Simian and her Prince Monkey) |
In Storybrooke, we open with Zelena waiting as a car pulls up. Rumple gets out and opens the trunk, revealing a bound and gagged Hook. He makes some innuendo but Zelena gets to the chase: He hasn’t kissed Emma. So now people have to die, starting with Henry.
Outlaw Queen kisses! Regina breaks them to ask Robin what he sees in her. He tells her a second chance. And that she’s a good kisser. She tells him to wait till she has her heart back. Robin gets curious and asks how it feels not to have a heart. Regina tells him she can still feel but not fully. Robin tells her to use his heart until she gets hers.
Clean up, Aisle Me.
Henry interrupts this lovefest and walks past the two after saying hi. Robin asks Regina if she’s okay and of course she’s not. She says they are waiting for her and is ready to go into Emma’s room. But Robin stops her with more kisses, making her feel better even if her son doesn’t remember her. He wishes her luck and lets her go. Regina enters Emma’s room and Mary Margaret calls her smitten. So Regina tosses a barb in her direction before asking where the “handless” wonder is. No one knows where Hook is but they agree they cannot wait. Mary Margaret is going to go into labor any minute now. They need to stop Zelena.
They decide that they probably learned the secret to defeated Zelena during the year they can’t remember, which is why she probably cursed them. So they need to remember but to do that they need to break the curse. They figure Henry has to be the one to believe in magic again, Emma kisses him, true love’s kiss—bam! Memories back. Time to find the book!
Back in the Enchanted Forest, the Charmings hold a council as Grumpy reports that whatever the Wicked Witch is planning, it’s big and inevitable. Sitting on this council with the Charmings are Regina, Belle, Robin and Granny. They decide they need to speak with Rumple, meaning they have to break in to Dark One Manor. Belle can’t help—she never broke in, only out. But luckily Robin’s broken in before and offers to help. For all those who believed Outlaw Queen loved each other in the missing year, prepare for deflation—Regina doesn’t trust Robin and insults him constantly. But Snow overrules her and says Robin’s coming. He smugs at her.
(For the record, this is what "smugs" looks like) |
Inside the room, the Dark One has been possessed by the ghost of Dr. Seuss as he’s only speaking in rhyme. But he pretty much tells them that Glinda holds the key to defeating Zelena. He gives them a rhyme to try and find her.
Storybrooke. Henry’s tired of being shoved off on strangers who know him for some weird reason. So he’s running away back to New York. Even if he has to try to drive his mother’s car. Hook stops him, offering to helping him out. He takes the boy to the pier…where it is snowing and there’s a good amount on the ground. Huh. Anyway, Hook orders Smee to take Henry to New York, in an attempt to get him away from Zelena. But she finds out and sends flying monkeys after them.
Meanwhile, our intrepid heroes try to find the book in Mary Margaret’s closet. Instead, they find a lot of shoes. Until Mary Margaret gives it another look. Voila, the book!
(Emma's wondering if her mother has powers or if she needs to get her eyes checked) |
They go to find Henry when Emma realizes he’s pulled a runner. But she uses GPS to track him to the docks. Everyone heads out there to get to Henry.
In the Enchanted Forest, the Charmings and Regina go looking for Glinda. Charming stops to pick a flower, giving it to his wife. Regina looks ready to throw up and tells them this is no time to stop and smell the roses. “Snow bells,” Snow corrects. Regina’s like “Whatever.” But they discover a door.
(Behold! A door!) |
Narnia! Pre-Pevensies! Glinda just stands there as Snow and Charming approach her.
(Did Zelena also glue her to that spot?) |
Regina is against them enacting the Dark Curse. She says that Snow would have to give up the thing she loves the most—her husband. Snow asks if there’s a way around it and Regina says there isn’t. Or else she wouldn’t have killed her father. Charming offers to be the sacrifice, much to Snow’s protests. Regina gives them time as Snow argues that their baby needs him. But Charming says he needs to save their baby and it’ll make his sacrifice worth it.
Tissues, anyone?
The flying monkeys have surrounded Henry and Hook at the boathouse. He shoots at them until he runs out of ammo. Thankfully, the cavalry arrives! Emma uses her gun, David his sword and Regina her magic. They poof away several monkeys as Henry asks a lot of questions. Most of us have one—if the monkeys are people, did they just kill off half the supporting characters? Anyway, Emma says he’ll get his answers once he reads the book. He opens it and we get a few montages of past incidents. Henry looks up at Emma. “Mom?” She smiles. Then he looks at Regina. “Mom!” Yes, he remembers.
(Family reunion!) |
(It burns us, Precious!) |
But then Zelena appears, dropping something into the potion. She reveals that it was a memory erasing spell, so that they wouldn’t remember the last year when they returned to Storybrooke. It would give her time to get what she needed. And poor Snow would never remember what happened to her beloved husband, doomed to search for him forever. Cackling, she leaves.
(Regina's expression clearly says "Can you believe this witch?") |
And how sweet is it that Regina’s now like the Charmings’ number 1 fangirl?
Zelena gone, Henry goes to check on Regina. She’s alright and very happy that Henry remembers her. She kisses his forehead, True Love’s Kiss. The curse is undone and everyone remembers. Snow and Charming casted the curse. And they know how to defeat Zelena.
But first, Henry and Regina need to catch up. She wants to know everything about New York. Henry wants to know about the man he caught her kissing. Regina’s like “So, you got good at math? Tell me more!” But Henry’s not letting her off that easily. So Regina tells him she’s dating Robin Hood. And who should appear? Robin Hood! Henry thinks this is awesome. Yay, he’s an Outlaw Queen shipper! Regina’s nervous as they have gotten their memories back and Robin admits things were rocky between them. Regina tells him he’s more likeable in Storybrooke and they leave with Henry.
Meanwhile, Emma and her parents lay into Hook. For not telling them about the curse. For taking Henry. For putting him in harm’s way. Hook tries to defend himself, saying he was trying to protect Henry but Emma’s not having it. And her parents think he’s not really cursed, but one of Zelena’s stooges. After all, they now know they didn’t send the message to him. Emma and them walk away, forgetting that Hook was never certain it was them. He had just guessed.
So who did send it? We see Zelena return to Dark One Manor, preparing a potion. Rumble says he recognizes the smell—it’s a potion to help them keep their memories. Zelena drinks one and gives another to Rumple. But Neal fights his way out and escapes the cage. He writes the letter and sends the bird to Hook.
Aww.
Emma takes Henry to his father’s grave, letting Henry mourn properly. She assures him his father died a hero. And then Mary Margaret goes into labor.
(Guess who is about to deliver a plot point?) |
Things are starting to really move now. We’re almost at the end of the season.
Hang on.
