Top Model!
We open at the Top Model house where everyone comes home to admire Mike’s picture in the house. Alex comments how he went from the bottom to the top and Jourdan blah blah blahs about “when is it my turn?” Mike invites Jeremy into the Tyra Suite and Jeremy is perfectly aware of how much of a noob he is.
Meanwhile, Nina has twisted her ankle. Chris H carries her around and puts on her swollen ankle and I didn’t recognize him due to his bright blonde hair. He calls Nina his best friend as Mike pops in to announce they will have like five minutes of phone time in the morning. Chris H says something and Mike’s like “Shut up.” Chris H flips out and everyone is tense. He goes to confront Mike who is like “What is your problem?” The two stare at each other as we go to…CREDITS!
Wanna be on top?
We come back to Chris H talking about his abusive mother, the one who abandoned him. He, uh, passed the psych test, right, show? Right? Cory plays pop psychologist and tells him that if he wants to have relationships with people in the house, they need to understand why he is always ready to explode.
So Chris H has a house meeting where he explains his abusive past. Most of the house is understanding, especially Nina (Chris’ BFF) and Jourdan due to her own abusive marriage. Only Mike doesn’t give a damn, telling us in a talking head that Chris is an adult and should stop making mistakes. Cory, in his talking head, says this was a good thing and hopes it will help Chris. Cory, I think the kids in school should’ve called you “Oprah” instead of “Tyra.”
The next day, the models head to a studio where some DJ is forced to remix the theme song. Sorry! Johnny greets them and tells them they are walking in another fashion show. Mike is not thrilled because of how horrible the last fashion show went for him. Johnny brings out Marvin Scott Jarrett, the editor-in-chief of Nylon Magazine who is still sponsoring this show. Marvin tells the models that their personality is important too and the person who does best in the fashion show will be feature on Nylon TV. And it’s very monotone. Johnny then reveals the runway will be rotating. Tyra really wants to kill someone this cycle, doesn’t she? Nina’s worried because of her swollen ankle and Don’s worried he’s going to be sick. Johnny sends them off to hair and makeup.
Backstage, Johnny helps Mike with his walk. Mike blathers on about this being a new opportunity and he doesn’t want to blow it, blah blah blah. Nina is still worried about her ankle and Johnny comes over to talk to her. She tells him her problem, with Cory’s help. Johnny…not so helpful. He’s like “walk or face possible elimination.” Nina cries as we go to…
COMMERCIALS!
I missed the TV airing and so I am watching this online (hence why the recap is late). I swear there are more commercials online than on TV.
We come back and Nina is still crying. She says she can either sit the show out and go home or walk, screw up her ankle and go home because the show is worried for her health. Nina has clearly seen this show before. Johnny is finally helpful and brings in a medic to bind up Nina’s swollen ankle. Chris H checks up on her and confesses that he gets upset when she’s upset. Aww, China (Chris/Nina) just pulled ahead of J2 (Jourdan and Jeremy).
Johnny introduces the designers. The boys are wearing selections from Ashton Martin while Kimberley Gordon is there to represent Wildfox, whom the girls are modeling. Johnny brings Jeremy back and tells him that Ashton’s going to edge him up a bit. Jeremy talks about being mama’s boy.
Time for the runway! Cory goes first, in his Hannibal Lecter-inspired outfit. He struggles a bit on the turntables but manages to do well. Jiana takes a tumble but finishes. Phil follows and impresses the challenge judges. Nina survives the runway and Chris praises her afterwards. Don looks pretty good on the runway while Jourdan rocks the runway, which is her strong point as she said. Renee impresses the judges while Jeremy does not. Marvin actually has game on the runway while Kanani’s turn flashes by. And now, it’s time for Mike. He isn’t as bad as last time but the judges are still not impressed. Alexandra and Chris H close the show and everyone thinks Chris H does well.
After the show, the judges reveal who they didn’t like: Jeremy and Mike. Their top four picks were Phil, Jourdan, Renee and Chris H. And the winner? Jourdan. She gets to keep her outfit. Chris Hi pouts about not winning.
Back at the house, everyone checks on their scores while Nina thanks Chris H for his support. She still got a 7, which is pretty average but threatening. Jourdan celebrates her win. Jeremy and Mike talk about their low challenge scores and Jeremy says he has to rock the photo shoot. We go to…
COMMERCIALS!
SUN RISE! The models go out to a trailer park where Johnny waits for them. No Tyra Mail? Anyway, Johnny reveals they will be doing trailer park chic, which in Top Model world means posing in couture while standing in a trailer park. Johnny says the models will pick their partners and can’t we get solo shoots, please? See these wannabes on their own? Anyway, they get to pick based on rankings at the last panel:
Mike and Alexandra
Jiana and Marvin
Jourdan and Chris H
Nina and Phil
Cory and Renee
Jeremy, Kanani and Don
In hair and makeup, Johnny introduces the models to their photographer, The Cobra Snake. Someone says they mistook him for a resident of the trailer park.
Jeremy, Kanani and Don go first and pretend to be at the best dressed trailer park barbeque ever. Johnny brings in a special guest, a trailer park parody of Honey Boo Boo Child. Kanani rocks the shoot but Jeremy has trouble opening his eyes due to the light. And Johnny says he doesn’t know his angles either. We move on to Alexandra and Mike’s pool party. Alexandra does well but Mike struggles as Johnny tells him not to snarl. Johnny reminds them to work as a unit. He feels Mike just does the same thing and doesn’t know how far he’ll go. We’re going to go to…

Jourdan and Chris talk about how similar their backgrounds are and then rock the photo shoot. Jiana and Marvin follow. Marvin doesn’t manage to do well because of hormones I guess. Cory tries to pretend to be masculine with Renee and actually succeeds. Meanwhile, Jiana and Phil continue to flirt as Marvin pretends to be trailer trash. Nina is worried that Phil will overact in their shoot. Nina tries to push through the pain but it doesn’t look too bad. That’s a wrap! And then Cobra Snake goes to congratulate Phil while Chris praises Nina, who admits Phil did better than her.
At the house, Mike says he’s prepping for elimination because you never know. Meanwhile, Jeremy shows Don how much he was squinting in his pictures and Don agrees it doesn’t come across fierce. Jeremy doesn’t want to disappoint everyone by going home early.
COMMERCIALS!
LA! There are judges—Kelly Cutrone, Rob Evans and Bryanboy. There are prizes. Tyra reminds us how scoring is done and that even if eliminated, the person has a chance to come back. She then does a Southern accent and congratulates Jourdan on her challenge win. Phil and Nina go first and everyone notices Nina’s wrapped ankle. But she’s praised in her photo—everyone loves her. Scores: 9, 10, 8. As for Phil, Kelly and Rob love him while Tyra wanted more. Social media is not too thrilled. Scores: 9, 8, 9. Jiana and Marvin are next and the judges ask if they are holding hands. Marvin denies it but then admits to having a crush on her and being jealous of Phil. Phil’s in the back like “What?” Anyway, the judges like Marvin’s body but Tyra and Rob want more from his face. Scores: 9, 9, 7. As for Jiana, they love her body but wonder where her neck has gone. Social media still loves her, according to Bryanboy. Scores: 9, 8, 7.
Cory and Renee are next. Kelly and Rob praise him for looking like a man but Tyra points out he IS a man. She says he looks “straight” but just needed to work it a bit more. Scores: 8, 8, 9. Renee though doesn’t get good comments. They say she’s everything in person but it doesn’t translate to a photo. Bryanboy says he loves her but social media not so much. Scores: 7, 7, 7. Mike and Alexandra are next and the judges are divided. Kelly doesn’t think it’s too bad (unlike his walk) but Rob wonders if last week was a lucky break. Tyra says his pose needed more. Scores: 8, 8, 6. As for Alexandra, Kelly isn’t too thrilled with it and Tyra says the fanny pack changed everything. But she likes her face. Bryanboy says Alexandra is doing well on social media. Scores: 7, 8, 8.
Jourdan and Chris are next. Jourdan is praised all the way around, though Kelly thinks she is a little stiff and Tyra thinks there could be more by way of a story. Scores: 8, 9, 10. Everyone loves Chris’ shot and Rob says he looks like a working model. Tyra gives him advice about seeking the light. Scores: 8, 8, 9. Kanani, Jeremy and Don finish it up. Rob and Kelly like Kanani’s face and not her body. Tyra loves everything. Scores: 6, 9, 8. They like Don though Rob thinks he needs to bulk up a bit. Tyra likes the skinny look in the photo. Bryanboy tells him his social media scores improved. Scores: 8, 9, 8. Jeremy doesn’t fare well as Rob and Tyra try to give him advice. Two shirtless guys in a video talk about how much they like Jeremy. It’s weird. Scores: 7, 7, 6.
COMMERCIALS!
ELIMINATION! Best photo goes to…Jourdan. She is joined by: Nina, Phil, Don, Chris H, Marvin, Jiana, Cory, Kanani, Alexandra, and Renee. That leaves Jeremy and Mike in the bottom two. Both are interesting and very American looks. Jeremy: Youngest, best male body but photos are not so great. Mike: Oldest, found on an ice cream truck. Strong photo last week, weak one this. Was last week a fluke? Who stays? Jeremy.
Tyra tells Mike the fans sent him home but he has a chance to come back. He promises to prove he has the talent she saw. He says she changed his life. And that it’s going to take a lot work.
America’s Next Top Model:
Alex
Don
Renee
Nina
Marvin
Jiana
Chris
Cory
Jourdan
I was worried for Nina there. Her edits made it look like she was a goner but then she ends up pulling it out of the hat. Chris H was another red herring. I’m not surprised Mike went home. Well, to that mysterious backstage area Tyra talked about to continue taking part of the photo shoots in hopes the people who knew about the voting period would send him back into the competition.
Anyway, looks like we have some romances going on, so I’m going to run a poll. Look to the side –> and vote for your favorite:
1. China (Chris/Nina)
2. J2 (Jeremy and Jourdan)
3. Jarvin (Jiana and Marvin)
4. Phiana (Phil and Jiana)
5. Phil/TV
Next week: Jourdan vs the house. Cross-dressing! J2 lives!
Quote of the Episode
“You know when you’re best friends with someone and you’re like ‘Oh, one day we’re just going to marry each other.’”—Nina about her relationship with Chris H.
