Galavant: Poor Bobbi

Last time on “Galavant:” Richard discovered his palace had been taken by his subjects and turned into a new town. He also discovered that they realized they didn’t need him and now had a democracy. Richard tried to figure out his new place in his kingdom while Galavant tried to drum up support to raise an army to rescue Isabella. In the end, the people decided not to do so but one woman, Roberta, agreed to go after Richard’s impassioned plea on Galavant’s behalf.

In Valencia, Gareth was being plagued with nightmares starring Richard. Sid got him to realize he was feeling guilty over his betrayal of his king and friend. He then helped Gareth (and Madalena) finally get some rest.

Isabella moped about after Galavant’s (supposed) diss. Her parents hired a wedding planner and Isabella agreed to plan it. The wedding planner, Wormwood, had evil purposes and took control of her with a magic crown. His goal? To take over the kingdom. He’s evil.

Will the others’ suspicions be enough to stop him in time?

Galavant and Richard are in tense negotiations. Things seem to be going well…until Richard opens his mouth. He ends up causing a fight that Galavant and Roberta have to end. Good thing this democratic/communist community believes in teaching the women to fight as well! In the middle of the fight, Richard realizes that he knows Roberta. He goes to tell Galavant that she used to be one of the children his parents paid to play with him and marvels at the fact they’ve been reunited. Galavant, though, is more focused on not dying. They manage to get away and flee into the woods.

(Now's not the time, Richard!)

Over in Hortensia, Isabella is really into planning her wedding. She practices her wedding dance with Harry, who is strapped to the Jester’s back to make up for the height difference. When the Jester botches a step, Isabella lays into him and he apologizes. Chef and Gwynne show up with food for the princess to test and Harry is thrilled for a break. Gwynne meanwhile checks on the princess, asking if she’s okay as her feelings about the wedding have done a complete 180. Isabella assures her that everything’s fine. When Gwynne goes for the tiara, Isabella snaps and Wormwood hurries her away.

Chef starts tossing the food and Gwynne has a heart attack. She dives into the garbage bin and eating the food. Chef stops her, reminding her they don’t have to live like that anymore.

(I agree, Gwynne. It is a waste)
They are living in luxury in the palace and have all the food they want. He even sings a song about it, extoling how great their life is now. Gwynne says she’ll try to lighten up…but still takes some food from the garbage. Chef just sags in resignation.

(Oh, Chef)
In Valencia, Madalena summons Sid and Gareth. She’s all dressed up and she holds up two pairs of earrings, asking for their opinion on which ones she should wear. Gareth and Sid agree on the gold ones before asking what the occasion is. She says she’s been invited to a Sunday roast held by Queens Catherine and Ivanna Falconberry, two queens Madalena has admired since she was a little girl.

We then get a flashback sequence, where we get introduced to young Madalena. She watches as a beautiful carriage rolls up and stops.

(Look how sweet and innocent she looks!)
Inside sit two teenage girls (or women in their early twenties). They ask Madalena if she wants a ride in their carriage and she agrees. As she tries to get in, the carriage moves up slightly. They laugh but assure her it was an accident. But then they repeat it until Madalena is running and they are laughing. Despite this humiliation, Madalena still thinks they are the best and can’t wait to go to their roast. Gareth and Sid are just confused.

Richard have it and tells him not to help anymore. Richard, through, promises to do better and will actually help. And then he proceeds to destroy the map. Galavant looks ready to throttle Richard…and then he gets an idea while watching Richard and Roberta, or Bobbi, pal around. He decides to set the two up and hopes that Richard will be too busy being in love with her to keep going with Galavant. He suggests dinner, some place candlelit…which Richard points out is anywhere. But they agree.

(Galavant is at his breaking point)
In Valencia, Isabella is focused on her wedding. Chef is still suspicious but he’s more concerned about Gwynne. So he asks Isabella for advice. She tells him to shower Gwynne with gifts and affection, saying that’s what every girl wants.

(Oh yeah. She looks totally normal)
Madalena is welcomed to the Falconberry table and given a place of honor between the two sisters. She looks at everyone gathered and asks what they are roasting—she’s hoping for a pig. The sisters laugh and inform her that they aren’t roasting an animal. They are roasting her, starting with her choice in earrings. As Madalena covers her ears, she braces herself for the humiliation.

(Be strong, Madalena!)
We don’t see the rest of the roast, we just cut to the Falconberry sisters thanking Madalena for coming and being the perfect target for their ridicule. She thanks them and gets ready to get in the carriage. When it moves up an inch, the sisters laugh and Madalena knows what’s coming next. She kicks off her shoes and starts walking back to her palace.

(Group hug Madalena)
(I know. I'm surprised too)
In Harry’s palace, Chef has made Gwynne a special meal and he tries to find her. When she doesn’t seem to be in their room, he sighs and pulls out a drawer. Gwynne is lying in there, saying she missed the tight quarters she was used to.

(Methinks Gwynne would fit in with the Addams Family quite well)
She tells Chef that while he’s gotten used to a life of luxury and free of diseases that could cause death, she’s not. He says if she’s that unhappy, they’ll leave. She’s surprised he’ll give it all up but he tells her he loves her.

Aww.

Galavant sits at a nearby restaurant, giving the waiter instructions to pull him out after a few minutes. The waiter agrees and leaves as Bobbi shows up. She apologizes, saying someone stole all her shirts. Richard arrives and says he had the same problem. Galavant notes that it’s strange put soon sits them across from each other and takes his place. A few moments later, the waiter arrives with a message for Galavant. He excuses himself, leaving Richard and Bobbi to sit there awkwardly.

(I'm not sure what stealing Richard's shirt really accomplished...)
A poorly disguised Galavant arrives with some minstrels and starts singing a song about falling in love. Though he insults Richard a lot during the song, it seems to work. Bobbi softens and smiles while Richard does look smitten…until something makes him feel sick. He rushes off as Bobbi follows, concerned. A defeated Galavant plops in his seat and sighs.

The next day, Richard assures Galavant that he’s feeling better. He also tells him that he knows what he was doing but tells Galavant that he and Bobbi are only friends. Nothing more. As they head out, a disappointed Bobbi follows.

It’s okay, Bobbi. I’m pretty sure he’s in love with Galavant. You’ll find someone else.

At the palace in Valencia, Sid and Gareth are drinking while playing a guessing game. Both have cards stuck to their heads and they are trying to figure out who they are. My friends and I play a similar game. We once made one herself and she couldn’t get it at all!

(Glad to see this game has been around for a long time)
Anyway, Sid passes out as Madalena storms in. She lays into them, saying they were falling down drunk. Gareth assures her he is relatively sober and Sid’s a lightweight. He then notices her feet and asks what happened. Madalena refuses to talk about it and storms off.

She sings as we see a few scenes—Sid trying to rouse himself, Chef and Gwynne leaving Harry’s palace, Galavant and the others riding more, and finally back to Madalena.

(Bye bye?)
Gareth enters the room and gives her a present. He says that he got her the earrings from the queens…with their ears still attached. Madalena loves it and thanks him. They have a moment, which ends the episode.

(Is someone falling in love?)
Poor, poor Bobbi. It’s clear she has fallen in love with Richard because he’s such a cute woobie. But I still hold he’s gay for Galavant…though I fear the show may not be brave enough to go in that direction.

Next time: Giants! Dwarves!
