ANTM: Who Will She Choose?

Last week: Tyra psyched us out and only had the two photo shoots. But first we learned nobody really liked Jourdan as only Chris supported her. But then money lured Mike to switch alliances from Cory to Jourdan. As the final three prepared to walk in the final runway, the judges appeared. Someone was not walking as a finalist. Who will it be? Marvin, the janitor’s son who cried at the drop of a hat? Jourdan, the young woman who didn’t endear herself to her fellow models? Cory, the androgynous model who Rob wanted to be more masculine? And who will ultimately be America’s Next Top Model? Find out!

Top Model!

So who gets to walk? Jourdan! She was a given—Tyra wants a boy vs. girl finale. So who is the boy? Marvin. I think Marvin’s gonna take it all now. Looks like Mike made the right decision to switch teams. Tyra hugs Cory and tells him that just getting that far is huge. Cory says he can just be himself out on the runway and not “some dude.” Because he can still walk. How lovely.

Jourdan is nervous about competing with Marvin as Tyra goes on about how she was kicked off a fashion show fifteen minutes before it was support to start. Marvin says he wants to be the first guy winner while Chris tells Jourdan not to let Marvin steal the title from her.

Wanna be on top?

Now it’s time for the final runway. Tyra comes out to great everyone in Bali’s language and then English. She says they are in the Beautiful Garden of Good Fortune. Fire dancers come out to perform a traditional dance as Johnny and Laura talk to the finalists. Cory is still upset about getting eliminated and Laura tells him he’ll be amazing no matter what. She tells him to work it and make the judges regret their decision. This is a big gap between opening act and the runway…Johnny tells them that if they fall, fall beautifully.

COMMERCIALS!

Tyra starts the fashion show. Yay! There is a traditional chant as Tyra runs to her seat after a quick change. Tyra talks about good vs. evil. And the fashion film. Everyone looks like they want Tyra to shut up. I’m not sure what to make of the film…Jourdan, Cory and Marvin walk the runway…Marvin says he likes playing the good guy.

Laura then walks before Jeremy takes to the runway and is amazing. Jiana walks before Cory takes his turn. Phil and Kanani zoom by before we see Mike and Nina. Nina looks amazing. Marvin takes his turn and is followed by Jourdan. Tyra yells that she’s working it. But then her dress gets stuck but she recovers. When she gets backstage, they check her foot to make sure she’s okay. Marvin’s happy she slipped up.

COMMERCIALS!

Everyone hits wardrobe to get into their next outfit. Marvin loves the chaotic atmosphere. What did they put poor Jourdan in? She looks like what happens if the swamp monster got touched by King Midas. Cory, Marvin and Jourdan walk. Marvin and Cory pretend to fight before Jourdan throws Cory down and kisses Marvin. Marvin handles the surprise well. It helped add to his character.

Laura comes back out with a fierce swirl of her cape. Don and Renee look fabulous. Marvin walks and Tyra says he looks good. And now Jourdan walks. She says she ignores the cape and the headpiece and just goes for it.

Time for the final turn and they are told to do “the Two-Oh.” And they do as the theme song plays. And I think the audience does the wave? Was that what they were doing?

Laura wishes Marvin and Jourdan luck as Chris and Mike praise Jourdan. Marvin gets a hug from Renee. Johnny says he’s glad he’s not on panel because they would make the decision hard.

BALI! Marvin says he’s proud of himself and thinks he outshined Jourdan. She meanwhile  says she has a lot of confidence.

The two go to meet Tyra, who will be their photographer for their final photoshoot. She says her photographs are not fashion but beautiful art pieces. Okay…Tyra puts makeup on Marvin’s abs before doing Tyra. Marvin has to ask permission to take a picture with the tree. Okay…Tyra says Marvin’s shoot was beautiful.

Jourdan asks permission of the tree and then poses for Tyra. She seems to do well. And that’s a wrap! Marvin says he wasn’t nervous even though it was Tyra and Jourdan says she loves Tyra. He predicts they will both get good shots and it will be close. But he thinks he will win.

COMMERCIALS!

FINAL PANEL! Jourdan and Marvin put their final runway outfits. She says she’s proud of them. There are judges—Kelly, Rob and Bryanboy. Since it’s the finale—there are prizes: a spread in Nylon magazine, representation by Next Models, and $100,000 as well as a campaign for Guess. Time to begin!

Kelly says she was proud of Marvin and thought he was beautiful. Rob says he had a presence and the girls were going crazy. Kelly says Jourdan was fierce and confident. Tyra says the kiss looks awkward but real. She says his walk was strong and sexy. And he connected with the audience. Kelly calls her the eternal, divine sun. Tyra thought she was flawless expect when she was taking the photos of Cory.

Time for the body of work review! Jourdan’s nail art lost points for no neck but Rob says her eyes make up. Tyra calls Marvin looks like a nail supermodel. Next is the living art. Bryanboy says the fans are obsessed with her shot. Rob says there is nothing wrong with her picture. Tyra and Kelly didn’t think it was Marvin’s best but Rob liked it. And then there is the field of mirrors. Tyra didn’t like Jourdan’s shot and Kelly says it doesn’t look like her. Rob thinks Marvin looks too young and Tyra agrees. Tyra next brings up the rice paddy shot. Rob likes Jourdan’s pose but not for the shot. And that she doesn’t like natural and now Tyra sees it. Tyra thinks Marvin can speak to many audiences. Kelly calls it a super-beautiful shot. They follow that with the Guess shot. Rob calls Jourdan’s shot as a Guess campaign. Bryanboy says social media wasn’t a fan of the shot. He thinks Marvin has a good shot but Tyra thinks it was too young.

Finally, they have Tyra’s shots. Kelly says it is Jourdan waving her flag and Rob loves it as well. Tyra says Jourdan never stopped modeling. Kelly high-fives Tyra for her shot. Rob says that Marvin’s body looks better and Tyra reveals it was makeup and Marvin. Kelly congratulates him for pulling out that shot. She says it’s been a pleasure to watch his progress. Tyra dismisses the finalists so the judges can deliberate as we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

We actually get to see the judges deliberate. Bryanboy loves Marvin’s cheekbones and that social media loves how he appeals to everyone. Kelly says he has good charm and Rob says he has the drive. Kelly says Jourdan won’t be the rebel rouser but she looks like a model. Rob says she seems like a dull model but Tyra admits she was boring as hell. Kelly says the client wants a great model. That at the end of the day it’s about the images. Bryanboy says Jourdan is a canvass and can be transformed. But Tyra doesn’t know if she has a signature look. Rob thinks Marvin is better for Nylon as does Bryanboy. Kelly thinks Jourdan is right for Nylon. What for Guess? Rob votes for Guess and Kelly thinks the same because she feels Marvin can open up their market. Bryanboy says Jourdan should get Guess. Tyra mentions how Marvin has four members in his Catwalk Crew while Jourdan only has two. Bryanboy says that represents social media. Kelly says they have to pick the best model and its about the industry. So who is America’s Next Top Model?

Find out after COMMERCIALS!

Jourdan and Marvin approach Tyra to find out their fates. One of them is going to be the face of Guess, have a spread in Nylon magazine, have Next representation and be a household name. Okay, maybe not that last one—I don’t think a single top model could be considered a household name.

Anyway, America’s Next Top Model is…Jourdan. Hot damn, y’all. I thought for sure they’d go for a boy. Huh.

She hugs Marvin and he says he got a shot most people never get. He says it proves there is a chance for everybody. He hugs Tyra and she tells him he is amazing and special but he needs a little more time to be a man. He says he made his dad proud and the future is bright.

Tyra admits she wanted a boy to win but Jourdan killed it on the runway. Tyra tells her to continue to push herself because she has “it.” She says she’s a Guess girl and America’s Next Top Model. After congratulating Jourdan, Rob goes to give Chris and Mike their winnings for backing the winning horse model. They are surprised but happy.

Well, I’m surprised at that ending. I really thought Tyra was going to engineer a boy victory. She even admitted she wanted a guy to win this cycle. But I guess Kelly and Rob had other opinions. Or maybe Guess, Next or Nylon did. But honestly, I can’t say I’m upset by the final choice. Jourdan looked amazing on the final runway. She clearly outwalked Marvin. And her photos were great.

In some ways, I’m glad this cycle is over. A lot of the contestants didn’t seem likeable toward the end. Hopefully next year’s crop is better. And I’ll see you then!

Quote of the Episode

“Bryan was going to throw things if you didn’t win so I’m glad you won.”—Kelly, probably also speaking on behalf of the Top Model crew.
