The Glee Project: We Found Love in a Hopeless Place

Last time on “The Glee Project”: The week’s theme was BLAKE CAN DO NO WRONG! Actually, it was tenacity and Amber Riley (Mercedes) decided Ali was the most tenacious Gleekabe. She got a lead role in the video for “Eye of the Tiger,” which featured an obstacle course to be completed in one take. The Gleekabes struggled, especially with double Dutch and shooting a basketball. In the end, the bottom three was Michael, Lily and Abraham. After the last chance performances, Abraham came out to make a last stand that was more of a tantrum. It sealed his fate and he was eliminated. Six Gleekabes remain, who will be eliminated tonight? Find out!

Glee!

Bland guesses it’s pairability week because they have an even number. He also saw the show last year as well. Lily wonders who the guest mentor is with…so called “enemy” Aylin. Stop trying to push that angle, show. Anyway, Robert comes in and is like “Oh, hey, not as many as there was.” Michael notes he’s one of two boys and wants to beat Bland. Anyway the theme is Romanticality. Screw that, it’s romance week because I’m not using a stupid made up word for my own friggin’ genre. Their homework assignment is “More than Words” and will be accompanied by the composer. What? They decide to pair off. Lily and Aylin partner off and decide to kiss. Shanna and Michael pair off. which makes her nervous. Looks like Aylin and Lily made up.

In the homework room, Nuno Bettencourt is there for some reason. Anyway, Robert talks about today’s guest. And it’s Harry Freakin’ Potter! I mean, Darren Criss (Blaine Anderson). Aylin is thrilled. It’s sad Nellie isn’t here as, according to TV Tropes, she’s a “self-proclaimed Starkid.” Darren talks about being romantic. Robert and Darren kiss. He like the different tones between the pairs. Michael and Shanna were “stiff.” Shanna blames Michael. Lily and Aylin are warned about going to the melodramatic. He praises Bland and Ali. The winner is Bland. Oh, really? Couldn’t tell in the video. Which is “We Found Love” by Rihanna. They are in a Saturday detention and sneak off for some romance. Bland gets to choose his partner. He decides to keep working with Ali. Aylin is paired with Shanna and Lily is with Michael. Lily thinks she has spark with Bland she won’t find with Michael. Darren salutes them.

Brooke is handling the choreography as Zach is working with Glee. Brooke admits to being in detention a lot. Lily says she needs to get comfortable with Michael while Ali struggles with some of the choreography. Shanna wants to outshine Bland and Ali.

Coming Up: Bland has issues?

Into the recording booth the Gleekabes go as Nikki worries about their harmonies. She puts Shanna and Aylin together. Aylin gets it but Shanna struggles with finding a balance. She is worried about getting in the bottom 3. Nikki is worried about Michael’s performance. But he nails it as does Lily. Nikki praises Lily’s ability in the studio. Ali goes up first when she and Bland are in the studio. Ali nails it. Bland struggles with harmony. Nikki thinks she found his Achilles heel. It makes Bland nervous about being in the bottom 3.

Erik comes in for the shoot. He goes over the premise again. He tells them what he wants—chemistry and little moments. Robert talks about how important chemistry is. Erik loves Lily and Michael while Zach praises how Lily complements Michael and vice versa. We go to Bland meeting with Darren. He talks about being in love. Bland reveals he has a girlfriend and Darren tells him to use it as an anchor for his performance. Robert likes Ali and Bland together. Aylin and Shanna go next. Erik tells them to get away from “acting” (ha!) and to chemistry. Nikki doesn’t think they are natural and Zach goes in to give them some tips. The judges talk and Nikki notes there are only two boys left. Robert suggests putting both in the bottom two and Nikki’s like “Why must you do this to me?”

Video time! Hi, Principal Figgins! This is my favorite video of the season, even if the scene stealer ends up being Principal Figgins and not one of the Gleekabes.

Coming Up: Bottom 3 reveal!

The judges come out to reveal the bottom 3. Robert gives the usual, “the talent is so great it was difficult to choose.” Nikki praises Lily’s studio performance and Zach praises her chemistry with Michael. Robert praises Ali as does Nikki. Lily and Ali are safe. They hug their partners and go offstage hand-in-hand. Lily is happy she gave them a sweet side. Michael, Bland, Aylin and Shanna are left. Michael was still stiff, Bland rocked the homework assignment but not studio work, Aylin may have gone more melodrama, and Shanna was actually criticized in a homework assignment. And Zach didn’t think she was up to par. Shanna is in the bottom 3. Aylin and Bland round it out. Michael lives for another week! Internet, try to figure it out. Just know I do agree he had a better week than usual. But take comfort in the fact Shanna agrees with you.

Bland will be singing “Losing My Religion.” He doesn’t know it. Aylin is singing “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face” while Shanna has “Stronger.” Only Shanna knows her song. Robert tells them to be amazing and have fun. They are released to rehearse. Shanna is surprised at the bottom 3. Bland knows that Shanna and Aylin are good. He’s nervous. Aylin thinks this will be the hardest elimination yet. She’s scared. Shanna and Bland—sing it if you know the words—“don’t want to go home.”

Coming Up: Who forgets the words?

Gleekabe extra: Lily and Michael have a “date” to prepare for their partnership. He plays the guitar.

Ryan comes in to view the bottom 3. He thought the video was really good and is surprised. Aylin is up first and Zach explains it wasn’t organic at the shoot. She sings. Zach thought she sounded incredible. Ryan says he would’ve liked it better if she didn’t forget the words. He asks what her mother is going to think about kissing a boy and a girl. Aylin admits her mother is going to know it’s just acting but the family in Turkey isn’t going to be too thrilled. She wants to be a person girls can look up to and identify with on TV.

Bland is next and Ryan is like “He has flaws?” He’s extremely nervous and Nikki is ready to teach him her Lamaze exercises to calm down. He has a good voice but even Ryan admits he is bland. He tells Bland to not be such a cookie cutter.

Shanna is there because her default is “Disney-like” according to Robert. She forgot some of the words, didn’t she? Or did she purposefully change it? I’m not sure. Apparently, she forgot some of the words. She wants to prove she belongs in Glee. Shanna thinks she can be the jock who can also sing. Ryan questions her displeasure over the bottom 3. She talks about Michael’s weakness and agrees he should be there over her. Nikki is impressed she admits it and Ryan says she needs to be that girl.

The judges deliberate while Bland realizes he’s the only one who knew all his words.

Did…Did that commercial just spoil the result of tonight? Because I saw two of the Bottom 3 in it. Way to go, Oxygen.

Robert posts the list as the bottom 3 say their good-byes. Bland calls them his “best friends” as Ali hugs Shanna and Lily holds Aylin’s hand. Hugs all around and the bottom 3 go to see their fate. Aylin thinks she’s going home. Shanna knows she did her best. Bland is nervous. But he’s safe. Shanna has been eliminated.

DAMMIT MURPHY, THIS IS MARISSA ALL OVER AGAIN! DID YOU LEARN NOTHING?

Oh, and Oxygen? Way to spoil it!

Shanna promises this isn’t the end and she will make it. She must first sing “Keep Holding On” before doing so.

I can’t believe they’re sending Shanna home. It really is Marissa all over again. Except Shanna didn’t win the homework challenge. But I felt bad for Aylin and Shanna. Their part in the video didn’t have a plot to me. Bland took Ali to a special candle filled janitor’s closet to ask her to prom. Michael set up a picnic for Lily on the bleachers. Aylin and Shanna…danced around the theater? For some reason? The judges have said this is when they start looking for the littlest things that could send someone home. The problem with that is they are the stupidest things.

Because does anybody out there really think Shanna wasn’t sent home because Ryan Murphy couldn’t write for her?

Didn’t think so.

Next week: Actability. Seriously? That’s a word? And they are doing acting scenes?

Exchange of the Episode

“We’re going to drill this until…”
“We’re gay together.”
“We’re not straight anymore.” –Shanna and Aylin about their pairing.
