Nostalgia Nook: Timmy the Tooth

Growing up, my family would make regular trips to BJ’s warehouse store. I loved these trips for a few reasons: Free food samples, a stop at the computer store across the way and a new Timmy the Tooth video. My sister and I loved these silly little specials.

And now I’m going to tell you why.

Eww, that was a horrible transition. Sorry.

Do I have to put a SPOILER warning up? Really?

Timmy the Tooth is pretty much what it says on the tin—he’s an anthropomorphic tooth who lives with his pet toothbrush, Brush-Brush. He lives in a brightly colored world with his oral hygiene related friends. There’s Sidney, Bubbles, Johnny, and many more! Do they relay oral hygiene lessons? Not really.

So what does Timmy the Tooth focus on? Imagination! And believing in yourself! It’s a 90s child show, after all. They all had similar themes, after all. Show creators really wanted us to be able to use our imaginations. I wonder how that went…

But Timmy has a powerful imagination for a tooth. For example, he imagines being a knight going on a quest. And he has a “It’s a Wonderful Life” moment when he thinks his friend’s have forgotten his birthday. (Of course, they are just planning a surprise party for him). Then there’s the time he imagines himself to be back in the Old West.

So, yes, imagination. With a few oral hygiene lessons along the way. After all, he is a talking tooth with a toothbrush for a dog.

Not so much this time. I thought this would be a good topic. Oh well, they all can’t be winners.

Next time: Halloweentown
