Sorry for the delay. Monday was my mother’s birthday and when I got home from celebrating, I had to choose between ANTM and the Emmys. I’m sure you understand that I chose the Emmys.
Last week: Thirty-one contestants came to LA for the chance to compete to be America’s Next Top Model. But more importantly, Ms. J’s back! After a runway show and meeting with the judges, the number was whittled down to 22. There’s still another round of cuts to go! Who makes it? Find out!
Wanna be on top?
LA! The 22 semi-finalists go spend the night at their digs. Ben and Kari bond over Iowa while he has some fun with Adam. Including pull ups. He even uses the term “bromance” to describe their relationship. Meanwhile, Chantelle thinks the girls will take it again…specifically her. Will is still in his heels. Matthew tries them on and thinks there are going to be “distractions” with both sexes in the house.
The finalists go to the subway. Franco Lacosta greets them and reminds them he was a photographer last cycle. He says they will be making four stops on the subway—one for each season. They have to put together a complete outfit before the doors close. If they miss the train—too bad. On the train, Franco will be taking photos of them. He lets them loose on “Spring.”
Everyone puts together an outfit as Franco counts down…
To COMMERCIALS!
Kari says she really wants to win the challenge. Everyone makes it on the train. Franco tells Romeo to work on his expression while Lindsay talks about her experience in Mississippi, which she says doesn’t count. Meanwhile, Franco says the pictures won’t be touched or filtered. Denzel’s a bit distracted by all the girls. We see a bunch, including Olay, Ivy, Raelia, Shei, Kari and Jamie Rae. Franco’s not impressed with Lenox’s outfit. She knows she has to step it up.
Summer’s next. Everyone grabs things. As the doors close, Lenox is still on the platform. Matthew is interested in Mirjana and she’s interested in him. But she’s thrown off the subway for not having the required number of articles of clothing. We meet Farmer Clayton who thinks this is his opportunity to show the world who he is. Adam has no lack of self-confidence.
Franco unleashes them on fall. Denzel goes for layers as everyone hears the doors. Most of the contestants are on the platform as people swear it was not the right amount of time. Romeo is not thrilled Danny got on the train while Franco thinks Matthew is boring. Kari looks pretty good. Ivy says this challenge is about being always on your game and being prepared.
Time for winter! Kari knows this is no and never. Ben misses the doors because he was getting shoes. Someone jumps through at the last minute. Which I think was Matthew as it’s only him and Danny. Homeboy’s from New York. We know how to get on a train in time. Franco likes how Matthew is playful.
At the end, he says it was a tough challenge. It’s between Matthew and Danny. One was playful, the other excellent. Who wins?
Find out after COMMERCIALS!
Anyway, the winner of the challenge is…Matthew. Sorry, Homeboy. Better luck next time? Anyway, Matthew compares winning to losing his virginity. Okay…
Back at the house, everyone chows down on pizza. Danny says Romeo can hold a grudge. Lo and behold, Romeo comes in. Some of the others think he’s a bit of a downer. We flashback to last week to remind people that Danny and Romeo hate each other. Danny talks with some of the other guys, talking about Romeo. Mirjana and Romeo call him out, saying if he has something to say, to say it out loud. While I like Mirjana, I hope that if she starts talking about contestants, someone reminds her about calling out Danny and practicing what she preaches. Cause I have a feeling those two will be talking behind people’s backs as well.
On the Model Mobile, the girls adopt Will. L’meese says the guys are good competition…but the girls are better. Anyway, the go to the beach and have a bonfire. Mirjana even gets Matthew’s jacket when she gets cold. Aww.
Kelly interrupts their s’more making to introduce Yu Tsai, a photographer from the last season. Chantelle recognizes him immediately. Yu Tsai tells them to get used to him because he’s going to be on every shoot. He’s the new Mr. Jay! And he’s going to be rough. The contestants freak out as we go to…

Anyway, Yu Tsai says the contestants will be entwined in one sexy, night time group shot on the beach. He sends them to hair and make up.
Kelly talks with Mirjana, learning she has a crush on Matthew. And that Matthew reciprocates. Kelly tries to play matchmaker. Kelly wishes Jamie Rae luck on her shoot. Meanwhile, Chantelle works with Yu Tsai one-on-one. She explains her disease to him and he thinks she’s an X-Men. He says she has confidence, which is beautiful. Ben says he’s nervous and you can tell. Yu Tsai tells him not to touch the clothes. We fly through a few until we reach Matthew. Yu Tsai calls him “Matt,” which Matthew doesn’t like. He hopes he didn’t get off on a wrong foot with Matthew. Meanwhile, Yu Tsai can’t tell how Matthew won the challenge.
Jamie Rae talks about watching the show and how surreal it is to be on here. Kari doesn’t think she’ll make it and then calls out her own meanness. We fly through a few others until we get to Ivy. Yu Tsai says she’s not overly sexy and thinks Ivy can be a good editorial model. Lenox thinks Ivy is her biggest competition. Romeo thinks Ivy is the best girl and that Jamie Rae is an actress, not a model. In other news, Josh wants to be more than a farmer. Yu Tsai thinks Josh is out of his element and Josh thinks his career will end if he doesn’t make it.
COMMERCIALS!
Yu Tsai gives Josh a second chance and says he’s frustrated with him. Keith is in love with Kari and then is told to flex by Yu Tsai. Raelia meanwhile is interested in Denzel and Keith. She says there is love in the air. As she goes to model, two contestants share a kiss. Huh, pretty earlier. Yu Tsai likes Shei. And then Adam comes out, doing push ups. Zaquan says he’s too turned up. Yu Tsai has to remind him to breathe and blink. Adam realizes he has a limited amount of moves. Yu Tsai can tell Will is a trained dancer and gives him tips for his face.
Ivy thinks the guys struggled more than the girls. But Zaquan says that Cycle 21 is redemption for the guys. Yu Tsai tells Romeo not to copy the other guys and notes that Homeboy is having his second chance. He tells Danny to focus on his face.
They’re done! Except not! Yu Tsai starts to lay the 22 contestants in their pattern for the group shot. Denzel says someone’s hand is on his nipple and whoever owns it owes him a dinner. They take the photos and Raelia says it’s a sexy shoot. He’s looking for potential.
That’s a wrap!
Everyone is nervous back in the hair and makeup tent. Adam thinks he’s a big underdog, saying today was a hit to his confidence. Josh is nervous as well.
COMMERCIALS!
LA! Tyra talks to Kelly, Ms. J and Yu Tsai about cutting the models down. Kelly calls Adam a Hawaiian pool boy. Tyra doesn’t know if he has passion or is crazy. Yu Tsai is not a fan of Jamie Rae. Tyra and Ms. J think she has something underneath the makeup. Kelly thinks Ben is all-American. Yu Tsai thinks Chantelle is unique. Kelly thinks she can get a lot of attention. They like Ivy but not so much Danny. Well, Ms. J likes him. Tyra tells them to be nice things about Romeo but Kelly’s not afraid. Yu Tsai is on the “Denzel train” and then makes fun of Will’s poses. Kelly thinks everyone will love him. Yu Tsai doesn’t see a model in Lindsay and thinks Josh is empty. Kelly loves Lenox, comparing her to Christina Ricci. Everyone loves Kari. Kelly thinks Shei is boring. Yu Tsai makes a comment about the “Matt-Matthew” debacle. Ms. J sticks up for Matthew. Tyra says Raelia needs to enunciate and Kelly says she won’t due commercials, but she’ll book things.
Tyra welcomes Yu Tsai to America’s Next Top Model and welcomes Ms. J back. They high-five.
COMMERCIALS!
Time for Tyra to reveal everyone’s fate! She says there will be 14 finalists. Chantelle and Lenox are first to stand before Tyra. It’s Chantelle! Everyone applauds. Tyra tells her to make her proud and thanks Lenox for audition. She sends Lenox back to possibly get called up again and invited into the competition. Jamie Rae and Will are next. Who’s in? Will! Jamie Rae goes back. Keith and Denzel try to prove they want it more. Keith’s in! Denzel goes back into the group. Adam and Mirjana are next. Mirjana’s in! She goes to hug the other three.
Kari and Romeo go next. Kari makes it. L’meese and Matthew. Matthew squeaks by! Lindsay and Lenox are next. Lenox is in! Mark and Ben are next. Ben makes it! Romeo is back, this time with Zaquan. Romeo is in. Olay and Ivy. Ivy’s in! You know, she looks like a coworker of mine. Danny and Raelia stand before Tyra. Raelia wins a spot. Josh and Shei follow. Shei is in! Two spots remain! Who will get them? Adam and Denzel step forward to learn their fate. Tyra notes they are both similar. So who gets it? Adam’s in! Apparently this cycle needs a good party. Who’s the last contestant? Denzel! Congrats, Denzel!
Tyra congratulates the models of Cycle 21. She then talks to the rejects, including Homeboy. Jamie Rae thinks her elimination is a joke. Tyra hopes they get a lot of work. Josh is pissed off as Lindsay sobs in her confessional. She says she didn’t do anything wrong. Danny is more positive and thinks he could end up on Cycle 22.
After the rejects leave, Tyra says the real world of fashion starts now. They will be walking in a fashion show that night. They will be living art, only wearing silly string. Mirjana’s like “My grandmother’s going to be watching this!” Ben’s excited though. Everyone celebrates as the group shot appears on screen.
