Glee!
Robert comes to see the Gleekabes in the house and to ask Charlie, Lily and Mario how it feels to be called back. They are happy. And even happier when Robert announces it is sexuality week. Aylin is happy though she worries about her family’s reaction. Nellie admits that she is a virgin and not happy. Robert tells them their song is “I Wanna Sex You Up” by Color Me Badd. Wait, really? You couldn’t do anything better? Michael says he thinks math is sexy while Mario tries to mind his attitude. The Gleekabes practice their song and use chairs while Tyler is still nervous.
Abraham let Tyler dye his hair and now no longer looks like Rufio. Anyway Robert goes to introduce our guest which everyone knows is Naya Rivera (Santana Lopez). She talks about sexuality and how her character was essentially a whore in the first two seasons. She tells them that less is more. Their version of this song almost makes it bearable. Naya says she’s impressed. She says Bland has a great look and was sexy when he was playful. Aylin had a fierce pose but she was “too much.” Charlie is praised for his effort and picks up on Nellie’s nerves. She tells her to be confident.
So our winner is…Charlie. (I narrowed him down from the video). He says that all he is thinking of is “Naya Rivera thinks I’m sexy” while they learn they are doing a mash up of “Moves Like Jagger” and “Milkshake.” They will be in a sex ed class where it becomes boys vs girls.
Choreography with Zach! He welcomes them to sex ed. He wants to help them find a balance between over sexuality (Aylin) and no sexuality (Shanna). Especially as Shanna thinks being smiley is sexy. Nellie watches Brooke demonstrate her move and is like “Oh, Lord!” She says she’s nervous but she’s going to work on it.
Coming up: Charlie is Alexandria?
Time for recording with Nikki. Charlie is up first and Nikki tells him to stay closer to the melody. He flirts with Aylin through the glass though Nikki wants to know who it is. He refuses to name someone and she realizes that he is using Aylin as inspiration. She says she’d yell at him except he’s doing well. Charlie and Aylin both admit to having no clue what they are. Michael and Mario go next and Michael admits to losing focus. He says he overthinks everything. Michael is dismissed as she finishes with Mario. She realizes that Michael feels terrible.
We move to the video shoot. Robert repeats the concept. Why? Lily thinks her biggest competition is Aylin and she wants to be noticed. Robert and Zach notice. Nellie nails the choreography and she talks about getting over herself to go with it. Robert is impressed. Tyler is worried about getting across on screen. Robert says he’s disappearing in group numbers. Nikki is impressed with Abraham this week and thinks he is owning his masculinity.
With a side swoosh, we go to see Charlie practice with Naya. She tells him to be contained and act like a lion. Erik directs Charlie and he talks about doing something else. Erik thinks he’s doing everybody’s job. Sounds like the complaint against Alexandria on Top Model. Robert seems impressed with all the contestants.
Video time! I think the girls won the battle. Though Bland, Charlie and Abraham tried.
That’s a wrap!
Coming up: Bottom three.
The Gleekabes line up on the stage to learn their fate. Nellie was uncomfortable but she shined on the shoot. She is safe! Three people still have to go before Ryan. Bland, Mario, Aylin, Abraham, Ali and Lily are all safe. Lily says she was worried and leaves the stage. Charlie, Shanna, Michael and Tyler remain. Tyler is on the right path but he disappears into the group. Michael didn’t do well in the recording booth and was caught in his head. Nikki says she was frustrated because she knows he has it in him but the business is 50% mental. Shanna is already crying and they tell her to be what they need. Charlie was a mess in the studio and then was unprofessional on the shoot. He apologizes and says he is learning where the boundaries are. Charlie is in the bottom 3 as will be Tyler. Oh, Nikki is bigger this week. Shanna is safe, meaning Ryan has no choice but to send a boy home!
Charlie is singing “I Get a Kick Out of You” by Cole Porter. Michael is singing “Lucky” by Jason Mraz. Tyler is singing “Smile” by Charlie Chaplin. He doesn’t know the song. It was on Season 1 of “Glee.”
Charlie goes to rehearse and he knows he stepped on toes this week. Michael says he prepared himself to be bottom three since the recording session. He says he’s prepared to work his “butt off” to impress Ryan Murphy. Tyler is worried about being in the Bottom 3 again. Third time’s the charm or three strikes and you are out.
Coming Up: Ryan!
Gleekabe extra: Nellie has no clue what Kelis’ “milkshake” was. She thought it was an actual milkshake.
Ryan and the judges enter. Robert says that most of the Gleekabes did a good job. But Charlie was all over the place. He comes out to sing “I Get a Kick Out of You.” I think Jazz suits Charlie’s voice and vocal styling. He also shows off some acting. The judges applaud. Ryan says that the other three people were upset with him. He annoyed Erik and Nikki. Charlie says that he has a childlike enthusiasm but Ryan calls him “unprofessional.” He tells Charlie not let his feelings for Aylin get in his way in this competition.
Tyler is back! Ryan’s like “AGAIN?” It sounds like he’s going back to his more feminine sounding voice. And it is nice, appropriate for the song. Tyler tells Ryan that he is an internal person and he’s only just started his romantic life. Ryan says he finds it hard to criticize Tyler because his choice was brave and he just started out on his journey. He keeps running against contestants who are more comfortable and charismatic. Zach wonders if there is something special and should they nurture it.
Robert says Michael pops on shoot but Nikki says he struggled in the studio. He sings “Lucky.” Zach is really enjoying this performance…because Michael forgot some words but powered through. Ryan is unsure but the other judges tell him that he is good at taking direction, improving and Ryan says that he needs more confidence. But he has star power. Ryan does call it the worst performance of the week but Zach supports him.
Michael talks back stage about forgetting the words. Charlie seems to be told he has problem with being professional while Ryan talks about him. Nikki thinks Tyler isn’t ready yet. Ryan makes his choice.
COMMERCIALS!
Robert posts the list before visiting the Gleekabes. Tyler, Michael and Charlie hug the safe Gleekabes. There are tears. Michael doesn’t want to go home because he’s not ready. Tyler wants the chance to stay. Charlie says it is emotional. Charlie is in. Tyler isn’t. Three strikes and you’re out, apparently. He says he’s sad to be leaving everybody but is thankful for the opportunity. Everyone comes in to hug him and he says that he can rise to occasion, become a better performer.
He sings “Keep Holding On” before leaving.
The Glee Project:
Abraham
Ali
Aylin
Blake
Charlie
Lily Mae
Mario
Michael
Nellie
Shanna
I have to say I approve of the elimination. Tyler wasn’t too bad, but I think someone on the Television Without Pity boards nailed it down earlier. He should’ve waited until further in his transformation, when he was more comfortable with his voice and body. I was worried for Charlie. It seems he’s on a whirlwind until he leaves. I hope he doesn’t because I do like him the most of the boys. Though I must admit that at the rate he’s going, Bland may actually get his real name back.
Next week: Kevin McHale! The Gleekabes don’t know their challenge! Because the theme is Adaptability!
Quote of the Episode:
“She’s so sexy I can see it.” –Mario about Naya
