Glee!
Aylin and Tyler regroup after being in the Bottom 3 when Robert comes in to announce the week’s theme: “Dance-ability.” Tyler and Dani are not thrilled. They have to learn “We Got the Beat” by the Go-Go’s, which Shanna loves. Mario’s lyric sheet is written in Braille and they are tasked with their own choreography. Everyone wants line #13 and it comes down to a feud between Ali’s wheelchair moves and Mario’s vocal styling. He thinks it’ll be cliché if she gets the line. But Nellie sacrifices her line and everything is settled. They decide to pick one person but who will listen to everyone. Taryn says that everyone is too busy talking and not doing. So they start. Taryn says she works better alone than as a group.
In the Girls’ Dorm, she calls her mom. She is crying and says she has serious doubts about staying. We are told via placard that Taryn left the competition that night. Weird. Robert comes to tell the other contestants. He tells them that the reality show set up is really stressful and she just couldn’t cope. Michael wishes that they had a chance to say good-bye properly. Me too. That’s just polite. Anyway, Shanna takes over her line and he tells them to put it behind them.
Homework! Time for the special guest! He’s a new cast member of Glee because he won The Glee Project last year—Damian McGinty! Ha! Imagine? No, it’s Samuel AKA Joe Hart. He tells them to be confident and blathers on about Michael Jackson. I don’t know…Ooh, they’re singing now. For a homework challenge about dancing, the cameras aren’t showing their feet that often. I can’t tell who was the best dancer.
Robert calls it the best homework he’s ever seen. Samuel calls Tyler a true nerd, praises Aylin and Abraham, calls Shanna “sensual.” And the winner is…Abraham, for his extra intensity. Abraham is thrilled and hopes to gain more confidence. He gets a standout moment in the video, “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO (which I’ve seen at least a hundred times in the past week), as well as a session with Samuel. Robert dismisses them to Zach and Samuel says “Skadoosh.” You know, the word that he stole from Hannah?
Zach says they are going to be at a house party, playing spin the bottle and doing a dance circle. We see Abraham’s session with Samuel. He tells him to have fun and not to worry, to follow the song. Abraham says he overthinks things a lot. Lily makes Zach laugh, but in a good way. Dani struggles to pick up the dance steps as does Tyler. Zach tells them all to practice.
Up Next: It’s horrible!
Everyone goes into the recording booth. Bland starts off the song while Charlie and Aylin are busy flirting. Though she says she isn’t here to be romanced. Lily says she’s classically trained but isn’t impressing Nikki. She doesn’t think Lily has much control.
Time for the video shoot! The judges file in to watch and Nikki’s getting bigger with each episode! Erik gives them some direction while Nellie is nervous to play spin the bottle. Charlie, Tyler and Abraham want to know why they aren’t involved in the game. Especially as Charlie has to watch Bland and Aylin kiss. Ali and Dani are watching as well. Dani thinks Aylin wanted to kiss Bland for some time. When Aylin comes back, she kisses a sad-looking Charlie.
Abraham does his solo and Erik says it’s too thought out. Zach isn’t sure if a contender has ever needed so many takes. The judges worry about Dani’s ability to be on screen and Tyler’s tension. And Zach wants to see the choreography. Nikki yells at them to “sing” while Zach has a weird look on his face. The judges laugh and Zach declares it “horrible.” He hopes that was just them getting the kinks out. Erik gives them notes. Zach tells group 3 to look like they are having fun. They tell them to remember to keep singing. Zach tells them to “step it up.” Bland and Michael have stepped up but Zach hopes Erik can make it work.
Video time! Stand outs (to me): Aylin, Shanna, Michael, Bland (surprising), and I liked Nellie.
Coming Up: Who sucked the least?
Everyone gathers on the stage. Robert addresses the Gleekabes and calls it a rollercoaster week. From the best homework assignment to the worst video shoot. Zach says it’s trying to figure out who sucked the least. Aylin, Shanna, Bland, and Michael were the standouts (like I said) and are called back. Lily doesn’t appreciate Aylin’s happy dance. Ali, Charlie and Mario are also safe. Dani and Nellie says that they rehearsed everything and it fell apart when the camera rolled. Zach tells them to remember their face. He thinks Dani was at the house party waiting for the ride and Robert tells her to be a different character. Zach tells Tyler that he’s a performer but they can’t pull out his confidence. Lily says she never got a note to change and Zach tells her it went to the group. She argues but eventually says she understands. Abraham thinks he had a lot of pressure and they tell him to be himself. He and Nellie are safe.
That means Dani, Lily and Tyler are the bottom 3. Dani is singing “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac. Tyler is singing “Daniel” by Elton John. And Lily is singing “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” by Shania Twain. Everyone likes their choices and go off to rehearse. Tyler is worried about being in the bottom 3 but knows Elton John’s songs fit him. Lily wants to be the big girl who is the leading lady on TV. Dani is crying while singing in rehearsal space.
Up Next: Ryan is in the house!
Gleekabe Extra: The guys talk about Tyler’s laugh.
Zach tells Ryan that the music video was a catastrophe. He says he saw the footage and knows it was bad. Dani is up first and he is told she can’t adapt. She has a beautiful voice and Ryan asks if she’s having a moment. She says she’s been having one for the past two hours. Ryan says that she has a soulful voice but he isn’t sure if she is a performer. He says she has to let herself go there.
Tyler is next, singing “Daniel.” It was better than “ABC.” Ryan says he improved and then asks about his dancing. Tyler laughs. Ryan: “Oh no, was it that bad?” Tyler says he’s there because he hasn’t let go. Ryan tells him to take it week-by-week. And to think of the people who will be inspired by him. No pressure, Tyler! But Ryan thinks he didn’t try to hit some notes and remained safe.
Lily is last to sing. She has a big powerful voice. Ryan likes that she flirted with the band. When he questions her about her attitude, she says she can’t accept defeat. Zach tells her that listening is important. Turns out that she used to fight with her high school chorus teacher. Ryan is unnerved by her attitude.
Lily admits she dug herself in a hole backstage while the judges deliberate. They realize Dani won’t ever be perky while Tyler has a long way to go. Ryan picks someone to go, someone they don’t think will be in it for the “long haul.”
COMMERCIALS!
Robert posts the callback list. Lily says she cares for every Gleekabe before he comes to announce that the list is up. Hugs are exchanged before Dani, Tyler and Lily leave. Dani doesn’t want to go home during Week 2, Lily doesn’t want to go up to the list and Tyler is nervous. But he’s safe. Dani is eliminated. She starts crying and says that she wanted it. She says she’ll take the experience and grow from it.
She sings “Keep Holding On” before leaving.

Wow. Taryn wasn’t so much a surprise as most who saw the video noted her absence. I am surprised that she didn’t get much of a farewell, just a placard telling us what happened. And she clearly didn’t tell anyone she was planning on leaving, which surprised me at first. But then I realized that it was only Week 2 and from what we saw, Taryn didn’t seem close to the other Gleekabes. So I guess she didn’t feel the need to say good-bye. But she could’ve at least left a note!
(Or maybe a producer took it for drama)
(Or maybe I’ve been watching Top Model way too long)
I am sad to see Dani go but I have to agree that she was more suited for a recording contract than an acting contract. She was never very engaging in the music videos—with the exception of “Edge of Glory.” I just note that so far, this is similar to last cycle. Week 1: A male Gleekabe was eliminated. Week 2: A female Gleekabe was eliminated. And that started the alarming trend of female Gleekabes being dismissed over male ones.
I’m looking at you, Ryan Murphy.
Also, why couldn’t Zach step in and…you know…choreograph? Or at least help when he saw them all struggling? Wouldn’t he do that on Glee?
Next week: Cory Monteith and bullying!
Quote of the Episode
