It’s official! Zoey Clarke and her family and friends are returning to The Roku Channel this holiday season for “Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas.”
Creator Austin Winsburg has confirmed the return of several cast members: Jane Levy (Zoey), Skylar Astin (Max), John Clarence Stewart (Simon), Alex Newell (Mo), Mary Steenburgen (Maggie), Michael Thomas Grant (Leif), Kapil Talwalkar (Tobin), Andrew Leeds (David) and Alice Lee (Emily). Also confirmed to be returning are Peter Gallagher (Mitch), David St. Louis (Haskins) and Bernadette Peters (Deb) – who is nominated for an Emmy for her role as Deb! No word yet about Morgan Taylor Campbell (Morgan) and Noah Weisburg (Danny Michael Davis) or if Lauren Graham (Joan) will also manage to stop by as well.
(I do hope at least Campbell comes back. And I also hope the stars align for Harvey Guillen to return as George. He recently revealed that there had been plans for him to appear in Zoey’s Extraordinary Birthday where it would’ve been revealed that getting fired was the best thing for him. Unfortunately, COVID and scheduling conflicts kept him from appearing in that episode. I hope we can still see that and what better time than Christmas?)
It has also been confirmed that the movie will pick up where Season 2 left off, so the fact Max heard Zoey’s heartsong will be addressed. I’m not sure how soon after that moment the movie will be set. I assume some time has to pass because while the show never really confirmed seasons or dates, we do have something of a timeline for at least the last half of season 2:
- While the meteor shower Zoey wanted to see in Zoey’s Extraordinary Memory was fictitious, it appeared to be based on a real shower that can usually be seen around mid-November
- Zoey’s Extraordinary Neighbor (Season 1) revealed that Zoey is a Capricorn, which means she was born between December 22nd and January 19th. This also tracks and I feel like her birthday is likely in January.
- Zoey’s Extraordinary Double Date features the Bay to Breakers marathon, which is traditionally held in May. We know there were time jumps between Zoey’s Extraordinary Birthday and Zoey’s Extraordinary Mystery, so this could also track given that it followed Zoey’s Extraordinary Girls’ Night.
- So it’s likely Zoey’s Extraordinary Goodbye took place in June. And now we’re jumping to December?
Of course, I’m likely overthinking it.
We’re getting more Zoey and we get to hear our favorites no doubt sing some great Christmas songs. Five bucks says there’s a performance of “All I Want For Christmas is You” involved. I’m pretty sure it’s law now.
I can’t wait to watch this special this holiday season and I hope it gets us a third season!
How are you feeling? Let me know in the comments!
