Top Model!
Wait, this is only part one of the finale? And according to my guide, part two isn’t airing right behind it. That means I still have to tune in next week to find out who won?
Wanna be on top?
BALI! Jourdan’s picture is on display and she notes this is her fifth time getting the first photo. Cory and Marvin celebrate being the top two guys. He says he’s not going to be happy until he wins it all. Cory says they all represent a different side of the industry—Jourdan is the classic beauty, Marvin is the youthful male and Cory is the androgynous male. Marvin, meanwhile, is glum that he didn’t get a kiss goodbye from Renee last week. But the other two remind him that Chris is gone.
TYRA MAIL! “Guess who has what it takes to be a top model?” They figure out it is their Guess ad.
The next morning, they leave and we are reminded that one of the prizes is a Guess campaign. Johnny greets them at their shoot and asks about their colors. He confirms they are shooting their Guess ad. And their photographer is Yu Tsai. Marvin knew he would be because he used to work at Guess. Wait, did that come up before? Yu Tsai says the model should speak to the potential customer. Johnny says they have Catwalk Crews of eliminated contestants to support them and cheer them on.
Team Cory: Chlea, Mike, Kanani, Jiana, Nina
Team Jourdan:
Team Marvin: Phil, Don, Jeremy, Renee
Jourdan is feeling like the proverbial cheese and wonders what she did to alienate the contestants. I direct you to the beginning of the season. I don’t think you ever got them on your side, Jourdan. Johnny calls out Chris, but we go to…
COMMERCIALS!
So who does Chris pick? He is Team Jourdan! Cory figures he wants the attention on him. Jourdan says she’d rather have no support than him. Maybe he chose you because he knows how it feels to have everyone against you. He says he chose her because he feels he can pick up any magazine and see her in it.
Johnny sends them to hair and makeup. Chris tries to give her a pep talk but Jourdan is trying to get in the zone. Marvin thinks he can be a Guess model and Cory is glad to have a boy on his team to double check his manly poses. Cory goes first as his supporters form a pyramid. Yu Tsai tells him to be masculine and Cory tries to find a genuine way to achieve it. Cory says he doesn’t want to be fake as the girls try to direct him. The photographer shuts them down. Yu Tsai says Cory should just be him and he says once he did that, Cory was magical. Team Cory cheers for him.
Team Marvin heads to set. Yu Tsai tells him not to get too intense. Marvin says he was trying to mimic the pictures he used to see when he worked at Guess. Johnny thinks he is caving under pressure. The photographer tells him not to get him pissed. He tells him to smile and be happy. They have to stick Renee behind the photographer to get him to be happy. And they start to get the shots they are looking for as Marvin says he’s not the same person he was when he walked into the competition. Yu Tsai tells him to listen and not overthink it.
Team Jourdan is last. What’s with her hair styling? She looks like Daisy Duke! Cory says Jourdan’s look has been seen before. Yu Tsai tells her to talk to him with her eyes. But she doesn’t seem to be doing that. Johnny asks if he can put support for her leg but Yu Tsai says no. They argue as Jourdan just stands there.
COMMERCIALS!
After the argument ends, Jourdan seems to nail it. Yu Tsai said it took her a while to get it. Johnny tells her she can relax after the end but she says she has to focus on the runway show.
At home, Cory calls his mother. But I guess she didn’t sign a waiver because we never see her. The camera just shows Cory talking to the laptop. Jourdan then talks to her boyfriend and we don’t get to see him either. Huh. Maybe it’s not a video chat? Then Marvin talks to his father on the laptop.
The next day, the finalists have a photo shoot for Nylon. I don’t see their Catwalk Crews around them. Jourdan gets to go first. She says she has to be cool, natural but come alive. I don’t know if it’s the sunglasses or not, but she looks asleep. Marvin is next followed by Cory. He says he has to channel his “inner bro.”
The editor in chief of Nylon, Marvin Scott Jarrett, talks to the finalists. They intercut it with some more footage of their shoots.
Back home, Marvin assures Cory that he didn’t look feminine in his shoot. Cory hopes so and prays as we go to…
COMMERCIALS!
Ken Mok and Laura Fuest, executive producers, meet the finalists and their crews at the site of the final runway. But they are there to film a fashion feature, which I guess is like that one from Bermuda where they re-enacted a local legend which ended up being a bit distasteful to the actual history of the person? Anyway, the crew members will be extras in the film. Rob and Laura are in the film as well!
Cory is Jourdan’s abusive boyfriend in the movie, which brings back memories for Jourdan while Marvin gets to be the non-abusive boyfriend. Looks like the camera is attached to a drone. Okay. Jourdan is impressed that he can act like he loves her while he’s in relationship with Renee. That’s because he’s imagining Renee in her place. Okay. Backstage, the two flirt. Cory’s like “I have to make out with a girl.” Jourdan’s like “Sorry, dude.” Cory’s crew can’t believe it.
The tired contestants go home and collapse on the couches. The final runway is tomorrow but I don’t think we’re going to see it until next week now that I know it’s a two-part finale. Marvin notes how busy their week was but that it’s an amazing life. More on how each contestant wants to win before they go to bed.
BALI! Johnny greets the contestants and reminds them of their designers. Johnny asks the Catwalk Crew if they think their chosen model will win. He offers them a $1000 if they are on the winning crew. The models are worried. But it seems Team Marvin are staying with him. Team Jourdan remains intact. Chlea debates her place on Team Cory. Does she stay? Find out after the commercials break!
COMMERCIALS!
So, what’s Chlea’s decision? She stays with Cory despite how loud the money was. Jiana stays but Mike switches to Jourdan. Cory says he’s sorry that Mike will miss out on the money. Marvin says Jourdan doesn’t have any real supporters. Wait, they didn’t ask Nina or she just sent out “I’m staying” vibes so Johnny decided to avoid her? Jourdan talks with her crew while Team Marvin considers themselves the loyal team. Does Nina have the same tattoo Miley does under her breast? The “Breathe” tattoo? Or am I thinking of someone else.
Backstage at the show, twenty minutes before, the models are dressed as Tyra shows up. She says the show is about to start but she has an important announcement. Only two finalists will be competing in the fashion show. Kelly, Rob and Bryanboy show up to do an elimination.
COMMERCIALS!
ELIMINATION! They go through the Guess shots. Kelly think Marvin is more soap opera than fashion model. Rob doesn’t think it looks like Guess. Tyra thinks he looks younger than he is. Bryanboy says social media loved him this week. Jourdan is next. Kelly does think she looks like Daisy Duke too and she could’ve been a little more stronger. Rob thinks she looks like a Guess girl. Tyra thought her arch could’ve been more. Social media loved her as well! Cory is last. Kelly thinks he looks like a straight guy but he may not be “the guy.” Rob finally thinks Cory looks masculine but doesn’t see it for an ad. Tyra thinks it is an ad and is modeling his “ass off.” So who is walking in the show?
We’ll find out next week!
America’s Next Top Model:
Jourdan
So we have to wait a week to find out who wins. I think Jourdan is safe from the pre-runway elimination—Tyra will want the final runway to be a boy vs. a girl. So either Cory or Marvin will be going home.
With the winner being chosen next week, it means I can reopen my poll. Vote for who you think will win—Jourdan, Marvin or Cory.
Next week: The second part! And in guess you thought they spoilered the results, they show all three on the catwalk! And someone goes down!
