FaceOff: Top of the World, Ma!

Last week on FaceOff: The contestants arrived to find out they weren’t actually on the show yet. Half the contestants had to make creatures that represented life and the other half made creatures that represented death. Neville Page and Glenn Hetrick inspected the creatures before the contestants stood before the judging panel. Ve announced that she would not be able to participate in most of the season due to her commitments to “The Hunger Games.” But instead, we will get Academy Award winner Lois Burwell. Seems like a fair trade to me. Dina rose to the top to become the first spotlight challenge winner. Scott and Gabby fell short of joining the show. Fourteen contestants remain, who will be eliminated tonight? Find out!

Face Off!

LA! The contestants go to check out their digs for the competition. There’s a pool table, a koi pond and everyone jumps in the outdoor pool. Everyone’s pretty stoked.

They walk down the sets of Universal Studios when they approach McKenzie. She has peanuts, bananas and tuna. Odd picnic choices. She introduces them to Universal Studios and talks about gangsters. And their nicknames. So the contestants have to create their own gangster inspired by the name of a real gangster. All the items of the odd picnic represent these weird names.

Gwen and Drew (Shark): Michel “The Shark” Sardona
Rachael and Vince (Typewriter): Charles “The Typewriter” Nicoletti
Doc and Stella (Needles): Leonard “Needles” Gianola
Barry and Sasha (Clock): Allie “Tick Tock” Tannenbaum
George and Cig (Tuna): Tony “Big Tuna” Accardo
Dina and Jason (Peanuts): John “Peanuts” Tronolone
Keaghlan and Damien (Truck): Opal “Mack Truck” Long

And there’s a surprise guest! He won an Academy Award for “Dick Tracy” and won Emmys for “Battlestar Galactica”. It is Doug Drexler. He will be on the judging panel and advises the contestants to not go too fantastical. McKenzie says she and her dad will swing by later to join them.

Designer phase! George and Cig decide to give their guy fish-like features. Barry wants to make him look like a rat but Sasha wants to make him a clock. I sense tension! Doc and Stella want to do a porcupine look. Drew and Gwen work on their creature and decide to make a shark jaw appliance. Sasha reveals that Barry’s rat idea won out as she tells everyone to head to the lab.

The contestants are awed by the lab. Cig loves the crylon. Everyone picks their models and get started on their makeups. Drew and Gwen start to work on their appliances. Vince and Rachael are going to carve the names of his victims into his head. Dina and Jason are going to give the head a peanut texture and put money and jewels in the opening at top. Kealaghn and Damien make a half truck/half mobster creature. Barry’s really happy his rat idea won.

McKenzie and dad stop by! They check on Vince and Stella first then Dina and Jason. He tells them the paint job will be important to sell the peanut idea. Michael asks how Barry and Sasha are working in the clock and they aren’t. They should’ve combined their ideas—rat face that’s also a clock. Sasha’s worried as we head to COMMERCIALS!

Coming Up: People are worried! Judges!

Michael Westmore suggests they need to sell the idea of the clock. Barry suggests ticking time bomb. Sasha needs to speak up. Michael tells Vince and Rachael to make their letters legible. Michael and McKenzie say goodbye as Drew goes to make a mold. Rachael wanted to mold the face but time is running out. Instead, she makes a stencil. Keaghlan calls the half hour warning. People are molding and scraping. Vince likes Rachael’s stencils.

TIME! Rachael says she’s feeling nervous as they leave the lab.

Day 2! Everyone returns refreshed and ready to work. Drew molds his own fingers while Kealaghn and Damien work on their appliances. George forms while Cig makes a fat suit. Vince and Rachael start to work on their details. And they write their fellow contestants’ names on their creature. Jason and Dina work like madmen. Gwen and Drew are excited while Sasha makes a time bomb. She seems like a Stepford Smiler.

George tests out Cig’s fat suit and has a lot of fun doing so. People keep working but Jason and Dina have trouble with their mold. It’s stuck and the mold starts to crack. They worry as we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

When we come back, Dina and Jason try to get their mold out and finally succeed! They hope the break won’t be too noticeable. Meanwhile, Drew makes shark teeth. George wants to make a working cigar using an LED light and baby powder. Rachael and Vince enlist Damien’s help with their mold. Damien recruits more help for them. As everyone gets it clean, TIME is called. Vince is worried today.

Day 3! Damien works on the chest appliance as Dina says their cowl is a mess. She works on smoothing out the seam. And the models arrive. Barry tells his model that he’s going to be a mad bomber. He and Sasha work together to get their model ready. Stella does application while Doc works on the headpiece. Cig and George work on their model. Vince handles paint job while Rachael makes brass knuckles. They have one hour! Stella and Doc have to work on their edges. Drew puts in the teeth and they do look cool. The seam bugs Jason while Sasha lays the hair. Fifteen minutes! Stella is still worried about the edge.

TIME! Everyone leaves for Last Looks. We head to COMMERCIALS!

Coming Up: Everyone’s nervous!

Backstage, everyone works to complete their makeups before the judges judge them. Dina is still worried about their creature while Barry worries their paint job is too dark. TIME! Barry hopes for the best.

McKenzie greets them as they enter the reveal stage. She reminds them someone is going home. Our judges: Glenn, Lois, Neville and Doug. McKenzie tells the contestants that the judges will have immunity that can only be used once and at any time.

The creatures come in! I like: Drew and Gwen’s, Rachael and Vince’s, Keaghlan and Damien’s, and Cig and George’s. McKenzie invites the judges to take a closer look. The judges like the shark. Doug says the paint is muddied while Glenn loves the prop. They like the Typewriter. Dina worries as the judges study their Peanut as we go to…

COMMERCIALS!

We come back. Neville likes the porcupine quills. They love the tuna as well.

Gwen, Drew, Kealaghn and Damien are safe. They are sent backstage. Doc and Stella step before the judges first. Glenn says the face looks good but thought the needles was too literal. Lois calls the hand intriguing but isn’t thrilled with the hat. Doug thinks it’s a “cool” makeup. Sasha and Barry are next. Lois is not fond of the rat. Sasha does say the idea was Barry’s. Lois did not know what animal he was. Neville says the ear doesn’t show the damage. Doug likes the prop but says the makeup doesn’t tell his story.

Cig and George are next. Neville loves the makeup. He likes the “gills”. Doug loves the body suit. Lois praises it as the “catch of the day.” Dina and Jason follow them. Doug thinks there’s a disconnect and the paint job isn’t the greatest. Lois tells them to match skin tones. Glenn says it’s just a peanut on a head. Rachael and Vince are last. Glenn says it’s a great concept and likes the typewriter aspect. He says the paint job needed to be better. Neville agrees but says their creature does cut a great figure. McKenzie dismisses the contestants so the judges can deliberate.

Glenn and Neville agree Doc and Stella had a great character. They praise the tuna. And they love Rachael and Vince’s idea and the head. They aren’t thrilled with the rat. Neville thought the prop was the most successful part. Glenn wasn’t thrilled with the peanut and Doug says it’s not clever.

The contestants come back out. Glenn says the top team is…

COMMERCIALS!

There’s a fan favorite, able to vote on Twitter. Cig won this week. Congrats!

Anyway, the top look is George and Cig’s Big Tuna. But there can only be one winner. Glenn points to the fat suit and so Cig wins. Congrats, Cig! Stella, Doc, Rachael and Vince are also safe. Are bottom four are Sasha, Barry, Dina and Jason. Glenn says Barry and Sasha were clever but didn’t’ capture their character. As for Dina and Jason, there were some good things but the concept was “uninspired.” Who is eliminated? Barry. Character was flawed and he was the driving force. Dina, Jason and Sasha are allowed to go backstage.

Lois tells Barry he does have a future in makeup and wishes him luck. Everyone gives Barry a hug before he leaves.
