Face Off!
Just a note, I put up links to these recaps on my tumblr. Anthony likes and reblogs each link. I don’t know if he’s actually reading them, but if he is—Anthony, you rock! That is all…
LA! The final seven talk about Autumn’s attitude. Eric F. points out there is no negativity. They leave to head out to water. Beach trip! McKenzie greets them. She talks about the new plants and animals the scientists discover year after year. The challenge is to greet a new species that might be discovered. McKenzie then talks about bioluminescence which Meagan has no clue about. But she has to incorporate it into their makeups so when they turn off the lights and power up the dark life, the judges can see it. McKenzie leaves them to sketch and promises a surprise back at the lab.
House goes with a fish woman. A mermaid? Kris goes with a mermaid as well. Anthony is creating a water creature that’s a warrior. Is everyone doing an aquatic theme? McKenzie said any of earth’s ecosystems. Anyway, they leave and head back to the lab.
There is a jungle scene with a button there. Eric Z and Meagan press it to reveal “DOUBLE ELIMINATION THIS WEEK!” Everyone is like “crap.” So with that lighting a fire under them, they start to sculpt. House is starting to panic already. Deep breaths, House! Meagan, meanwhile, has a bat creature but is still lost. Kris talks to her. Eric F. is doing an amphibian girl and the organs will be in bioluminescence.
Meagan isn’t feeling okay but she keeps plugging along. She and Anthony talk as everyone continues to sculpt. Eric Z. apparently caught a rock formation that looks like a face and is using that in his creation. Meagan still feels sick. She announces it and Anthony and Eric Z. come over to check on her. But she keeps plugging along despite heat, nausea and dizziness. So she leaves, worrying Anthony. Meagan is worried she’s going home.
Coming Up: Does Meagan leave?
Meagan leaves as Anthony worries about her. A producer takes her to the hospital.
Everyone continues on with sculpting. The Erics have a moment as Kris continues working along. Anthony says he still has a lot of work to do at TIME!
Day 2! Meagan crawls back into the lab, revealing she has food poisoning. Go figure. She continues to work despite not feeling well. Wayne debates paint color choices as Eric Z. uses a mold of his face sculpt to work on the rest of the headpiece.
Michael and McKenzie show up for a walk through. Michael tells House to watch out for the paint. Michael tells Eric Z. to keep the back simple. Anthony says he wants to sell the body painting, which Michael agrees. McKenzie likes Meagan’s look while Michael tells Wayne the paint job is important. Michael doesn’t have much to say about Eric F’s work and likes Kris’ work so far. They leave as everyone keeps working.
Time for molds! Kris wants his done by the end of the day. House finds himself rushing on the hands as Eric F. starts to worry about his idea because it’s big and crazy. He starts to mold as time ticks down. He’s worried.
COMMERCIALS!
Extra: There’s a room to paint the luminescence paint and Kris already did some. He takes McKenzie and Michael in there. Her teeth glow in the room and her father teases her about it.
Eric F. is still running behind on his creature and molds. Everyone else seems to be chugging along while Meagan works on a Venus fly trap sculpt. Anthony seems to approve. Kris checks out the UV paint in the special room to work out his scheme. Anthony decides to use some red on his creature’s limbs. Eric Z. admires his choices. Eric F. does have molds done but not sure about paints. TIME!
Day 3! Everyone rushes to finish some things before the models arrive. Eric F. notice “steam pockets” in his mask. It comes from too much moisture in the molds. And here come the models. Contestants start to apply their applications. Eric Z. wants to take his time and make his model look good. House has a problem with his gills. Kris moves on to the paint job. Meagan worries about the fact her creature has one piece. She uses sand to enhance her look. Anthony works in the black light room to work on his model. Wayne feels like he is behind at TIME!
COMMERCIALS!
Everyone hurries to finish things before Last Looks. Eric Z. worries he might not be using his luminescence paint right while Wayne just wants to get some on. TIME!
McKenzie welcomes them to the reveal stage. There is a double elimination and judges: Glenn, Ve and Neville. But there’s also a guest judge, Jon Landau, a producer on Titanic and Avatar. Bring out the monsters!
House: Interesting look, not sure about the luminescence.
Eric Z: Not a lot of luminescence paint from far away. Looks better in the light.
Anthony: That’s…something you don’t want to run into. Good job on the luminescent paint.
Kris: Is very green. And very bright under a UV light.
Meagan: Much the same as Eric Z’s.
Wayne: Kinda looks amazing. Luminescent paint job isn’t that bad.
Eric F: Not sure about the face piece. Organs look good under the UV light.
The judges take a closer look, Glenn leading the way. Glenn’s not pleased with House’s work. Eric Z is nervous as they look at his creature.
COMMERCIALS!
They seem to like Anthony’s work as well as Kris’. Neville likes Meagan’s work. They speed through the rest and return to the table. Kris is up first. Glenn calls it a stylized approach and praises the choice. Neville likes the work he did. Ve thinks it looks better under the UV light. Jon wants expression. House is next. Ve doesn’t think his work is beautiful and is not happy with the hands or UV light look. Neville doesn’t like his choices. Glenn continues his hatred of the color blue. Anthony follows him. Neville likes the natural asymmetry. Jon says he can see the creature on Pandora. Ve likes his choice for the UV look.
Meagan is next. Jon says he couldn’t tell the concept when he saw the character and calls it a mix. Ve wanted more paint colors. Meagan talks about being sick and is just happy to have completed it. Glenn says it’d be okay if anything on the character was great. Wayne follows and Glenn calls it an improvement. Ve doesn’t like the UV look but praises his sculpture. Jon loves the face. Eric Z is next. Ve calls it a “cookie monster.” Neville tells him he has to do better. Jon doesn’t call it original. And we finish with the other Eric. Neville calls it a great idea but it looks better in the luminescence. Ve thought his creature looked better under the black light.
Okay, the music they’re playing makes it sound like my phone—which is on vibrate—keeps going off. They like Anthony’s work as well as Wayne’s sculpture. Jon thinks House’s look wasn’t too original while Neville didn’t like the paint job. Glenn understands that Meagan was sick and Jon points out she didn’t have a concept. Ve really didn’t like Eric Z’s work.
The top looks this week: Anthony and Wayne. The winner tonight is…
COMMERCIALS!
Anyway, the winner is…Anthony. Yay, Anthony! He feels great to win again. And calls himself a geek. He and Wayne are sent back to the makeup room, along with Kris and Eric F. Meagan, House and Eric Z approach the judges. House: Fundamental flaws, Meagan: Was sick but the makeup wasn’t so great, Eric Z: Not very original. The first eliminated person is…Meagan. We have no girls now. Jon tells her she did the only land based design which was bold. McKenzie dismisses her. Meagan says she wishes she had one amazing piece.
Also eliminated tonight is Eric Z. Glenn says he lost his way this week. House is safe and is sent back to the makeup room. Glenn praises Eric Z’s work on the show. He is dismissed. He says he knows he has more to offer. There’s a group hug before Meagan and Eric Z. leave.
Face Off
Anthony
House
Eric F.
Kris
Wayne
So sorry to see the last girl go home. While I liked Meagan, I have to admit her work wasn’t the greatest. I’m thinking the final three will be Anthony, Wayne and Kris. House and Eric F. are starting to collapse under the weight of their ideas and choices.
Next week: Egyptian god mummy.
Quote of the Episode
“What was he rousing? A bunch of bakers?”—Ve on Eric Z’s creature
