Can’t Touch This!

Last time on “The Glee Project”: Dot-Marie Jones showed up to judge the Gleekabes ability to be vulnerable. Matheus won and got the spotlight in the “Mad World” video. The “Mad World” video had the kids walking around with something that made them feel vulnerable. Emily revealed she had spent time on the casting couch while Marissa revealed she had battled anorexia. This was not discussed again as Cameron, Emily and Damian fell into the bottom three. Cameron and Damian were saved while Emily was sent packing. Nine Gleekabes remain, who will go home tonight?

Glee!

The Gleekabes walk in to find this week’s homework assignment is “danceability” and they will be performing “Hey, Soul Sister.” Hannah is worried because she says she isn’t the strongest dancer. Clearly, this girl has never turned around and watched Damian try to dance. Love the lad, but he should stick to the “fancy walking” they do at Celtic Thunder. Alex takes over as they create their own choreography as he thinks he is the best dancer out of them. I think that’s Lindsay, actually. Meanwhile, Cameron says he is performing “The Don’t Look Like an Idiot”. As Lindsay helps Alex choreography, Samuel decides to use his band moves. He says he hasn’t been in the bottom three yet.

Way to jinx yourself there, Sam.

Anyway, the Gleekabes await the arrival of their guest judge. McKynleigh tries to guess who it is. This one wasn’t obvious? It’s Harry Shum, Jr. AKA “Mike Chang” or “Other Asian.” Robert introduces Harry anyway and says that not everyone can dance on Glee (paging Corey Monteith!) but that doesn’t matter. They just have to own it. Time to start “Hey, Soul Sister”! Samuel channels Michael Jackson for a bit. Damian actually finds rhythm.

Robert and Harry applaud. Harry tells Cameron that he stands out but he needs to tone it down in a group. He calls McKyleigh the weakest. Harry tells Alex to keep his moves appropriate to the song. He thinks Samuel had a “cool air” and moved well. Harry thought Mateus had dance background but he doesn’t. In the end though, Samuel won. Alex is shocked but realized others need to win. Harry reveals they will be dancing and rapping in their video to “Can’t Touch This.”

Oh dear God, this is going to be painful.

Back at the boys’ dorm, Samuel is happy he impressed Harry. Alex thinks he didn’t want to win. Matheus confesses that Alex is self-centered and cocky. Alex says he sees so much of himself in the others despite being one of the youngest. No one is impressed.

Vocals with Nikki!

Nikki looks forward to working with Hannah. She wears sunglasses in the studio and says she’s M.C. Hannah. Nikki is impressed. We go through Matheus and Nikki tells Marissa to slow down. Damian has difficulty rapping as Nikki wants McKynleigh to put in more energy. Since Samuel has the spotlight so he gets to ad-lib. He uses Hannah’s bit and claims it as his own. He tells her he used her bit. Hannah is upset that he didn’t give her credit. Meanwhile, Alex calls Samuel “cocky.” Wow.

Coming Up: Matheus has some difficult.

Time for Zach!

Zach knows they don’t have enough time to teach it. He orders Damian to stop dancing behind him and Damian confesses he can’t even walk a straight line! Cameron also has difficult. Zach works with Hannah and asks Alex to help another group. As if Alex’s head wasn’t big enough. Matheus challenges him a bit and Marissa isn’t sure how Alex is going to do in the video.

Erik comes on set to direct the video. We first get to see Harry and Samuel work on dancing. The others get to watch Samuel work and Hannah isn’t thrilled to hear him use her bit. Alex comes to set looking like Dwayne Wayne and is tired. Zach thinks that Alex doesn’t think he needs to put the effort in for dancing because he can do it. Meanwhile, McKynleigh continues to fade into the background. Erik says he’s surprised to see Cameron do this. Zach and Nikki are worried about Cameron. Zach talks to him and tells Hannah not to look down. Hannah insists she’s not going home.

Damian tries to be ghetto and Zach calls him a genius. Zach and Robert are impressed with him. Zach works with Matheus. Matheus messes up and curses. Damian says Matheus is early and throwing him off. Matheus tells Damian to look at the camera. Erik thinks Matheus is turning into a “divo.” Zach says that most of the contenders took the challenge and decided just to give it their all. Nikki comments that those they expected to excel were struggling and vice versa.

Video time! Shouldn’t these fashions be making their comeback? It’s been 20 years, right?

Anyway, that’s a wrap!

Coming Up: Callbacks!

In the boys dorm, Damian says if he’s in the bottom three, he’ll accept it. He says it gives your confidence a hit. Cameron thinks he may be in the bottom three. In the girls’ dorm, McKynleigh and Hannah worry.

The Gleekabes go before Robert and Zach. Zach says he realizes dancing took some of them out of their comfort show. Damian, Marissa, Lindsay, and Samuel are all called back. Damian says he’s going to keep fighting. Robert tells McKynleigh to be more vivid and to connect. Zach thinks that Cameron is more rocker than dancer. Cameron admits he forgot his character in favor of the dancing. Zach talks to Alex about being tired or over it. Alex says he wasn’t in a good place. Zach tells him that he is going for a job and Zach just didn’t think Alex was into it. He tells Matheus his only note was “stay on your mark” and Matheus pretty much pitched a fit. He can’t do that on the show. He then turns to “MC Hannah” and he tells her she was good in rehearsal and owned it on the video. She’s on the call back list. Zach tells Cameron he’s on the call back list. Robert tells him it is because he took directions.

So, our bottom three: McKynleigh singing “Last Name” (Carrie Underwood) and has to be unforgettable. Alex is “I’ll Always Love You” (Dolly Parton). Matheus has “Down” by someone I don’t know. He’s told to be sexy.

Matheus enters his dressing room to learn his song. Alex and McKynleigh do that same. And Nikki works with McKynleigh. She tells her that there is a disconnect between her face and her voice. Matheus struggles with his performance as Nikki visits him. Nikki tells him to get over himself and sell his confidence. She moves on to Alex, whose voice is way too high. Alex says he belongs on the show. Nikki doesn’t seem to like that answer.

Coming Up: Ryan is let loose!

In the Gleekabe extra: Marissa gets a booty pop section. Damian says they are committing sins in their head. “Can’t touch this” he says.

Robert talks to Ryan about McKynleigh’s lack of popping. She comes out to perform. Holy. Crap. Where has this performer been the past four weeks? Seriously? If I had seen this girl, I wouldn’t keep FORGETTING her! McKynleigh, I don’t care what Ryan says—you were unforgettable. Zach says she looked like she was in a Cover Girl commercial. Ryan tells her to find her ferocity as he wants a country singer in the cast. He is pleased.

Robert and Zach tells Ryan about Matheus’ meltdown. He’s surprised and tells the Gleekabe to own his sexuality. Matheus takes the note and starts stripping on stage? Zach can’t believe this. Robert is just too entertaining. Ryan applauds him but he wasn’t thrilled to hear about how he handles notes. Ryan tells him to loosen up and be his best.

Robert tells Ryan that Alex is either a diva or nothing. Zach is already starting to tear up. Anyone else think that Robert looks like John Barrowman when Barrowman wears his glasses? Wait, Barrowman…crap I forgot “Miracle Day” started. Crap. Hopefully it’s on demand. As for Alex’s performance—meh. I wish someone would copy Dolly and not always Whitney. Ryan calls Alex “special.” He asks about letting others shine and throwing the challenge. Alex agrees and that’s when Ryan asks if Alex thinks he’s better than everyone else? Ryan tells him to be humble. Alex reveals he’s gay and that he wants to be himself. His mother accepted him, that’s good. She’s the only one to know—as of that taping. I’m sure more people know now. Ryan tells him to be that vulnerable person.

Matheus, McKynleigh and Alex return to the room with the saved Gleekabes. He says he’s prepping to go home to lessen the pain. Ryan felt McKynleigh and Matheus fought for their place on the show. Ryan is not thrilled with Alex’s mindset. Alex talks about being told to be more humble as the judges make their decision.

Coming Up: Someone goes home.

The list is posted. I have a feeling it’s going to be Alex. Ryan mentioned an early cut he regretted and I think we’re about to see it. Matheus confesses it’s hard to have a dream taken away. McKynleigh confesses about her struggles. Alex thinks he’s going home. Matheus is safe. And I was wrong! McKynleigh is eliminated. Everyone goes to say good-bye. Cameron gives her some flowers and there is a group hug.

She sings “Keep Holding On” as she leaves.

The Glee Project:

Alex
Bryce
Cameron
Damian
Ellis
Emily
Marissa
Hannah
Lindsay
Matheus
McKynleigh
Samuel

Poor McKynleigh. She delivered the performance of her life, but it was too late. This is starting to become the battle of the egos, isn’t it? I know it’s mostly editing, but jeez Louise. First Lindsay then Alex then Cameron then Matheus. If they’re not careful, the others may get effected as well. I would hate to be one of their friends and wondering “Dude, what happened?” Anyway, please tell me that none of the remaining contestants ever have to rap again and we’ll be good.

Next week: There are duets, Cameron calls home, and Matheus cries.

Quote of the Episode:

“I don’t know. It’s cause they’re obviously ninjas.”—Hannah, during choreography

PS: If there were any missing n’s in this recap, I apologize. My keyboard was sticking. I need to get a new can of pressurized air.
